A few of you may have had a DH/DP since then. Wink

Not me, quite. But it struck me last night that my favourite fluffy Christy bath towel is now 20 yrs old.

So is a watch I wear every day that my parents bought me.

A couple of baking trays too.

They've stood the test of time.

Can you tell me what I need to add to my indestructible domestic list?

Many thanks.

Loads of stuff. I don't tend to throw away or replace stuff until I have to.

I've a Kenwood Mini which was my DM's and must be at least 40 years old, and a cast iron omelette pan which my aunt got for a wedding present in the early 50s & which I use all the time. I also have my aunt's sewing machine, which is probably of a similar vintage & still works.

The fridge freezer we bought for our first house is 30 years old, and the food processor which we got as a wedding present is still in use after 28 years.

And I regularly use the pressure cooker my lovely nan gave me for my 21st birthday (don't ask!) and that was 33 years ago.

We still use my granny's duvet that she brought back from a holiday in Norway in the early 60s. That makes it 50+ years.

Nocado · 04/11/2018 19:30

My boiler is 28 years old.
Most of my crockery is similar age (Gosh I'd love a change from Denby iImperial Blue)
Loads of bedding and towels are >20yrs
Dualit toaster is well over 20, got to love replaceable elements; done last year. John Lewis ss saucepans ditto, used daily still good as new. Colander is an heirloom probably >40yrs old.
Antiques and Persian carpets obviously older and still magnificent.
Loads really

Right now I'm lying in a 20 year old fleece jacket. My mum's calls it my horse blanket, but it's warm, comfortable, I'm at home with a stinking cold so don't care.
It still works. :)

Atalune · 04/11/2018 19:32

My mums cheese grater.
An old mixing bowl of my mums.
Dressing gown that I pinched from a fancy hotel 20 years ago. It’s heavy and warm very roomy. I love it.

Willow2017 · 04/11/2018 19:33

Dressing gowns.
Metal nut cracker (that was my grans too😀)
Had a brilliant little veg knife over 20 yrs old but it got put in bin by accident and i cant find anything nearly as good.
My electric mixer was my mums its easily 30 yrs old works perfectly well.

Old oval plates i use for carving/serving chicken etc on a regular basis. Again my grandparents so goodness knows how old they are.

PuppyMonkey · 04/11/2018 19:33

I have a White Knight tumble dryer that’s 20 years old and still going strong.

Also some Denby plates that we got in 1995.

Pinkkahori · 04/11/2018 19:34

My MIL gave me a stand mixer she got as a wedding present in 1973 and it still works perfectly.

Binglebong · 04/11/2018 19:34

My car! 20 this year - really not a fancy one but simple enough that I can (at a pinch) do most maintenance myself. I am worried about the next MOT though.

Have loads of old things - more old than new. Trying to think of examples.

My current sewing machine I inherited - it was bought in 1983. My last one was also an inheritance (motor went but will get it fixed) even older but don't know date. 60s ish maybe?

ChippyMinton · 04/11/2018 19:35

Loads of stuff, not including furniture, you’d expect that to be going strong.
One of my sewing machines is over 30 , and the other is over 80!
Heated rollers that must be nearer 40.
DH has a clock radio that must be 40, and his first artificial Christmas tree.

heymammy · 04/11/2018 19:35

My tiny Casio keyboard from circa 1985
A Nintendo game and watch thing
My granny's ironing board...she died in 1975

Binglebong · 04/11/2018 19:36

Loads of static things but trying to think of more complicated! There's an old coffee grinder. And wooden furniture of course.

MissMogwai · 04/11/2018 19:36

My ironing board is 22 and still going strong! Not that it sees a lot of use.

I also have one mug left from my first flat. It's my favourite coffee mug and I love it. I think the set was from Woolworths 👵🏻

Willow2017 · 04/11/2018 19:37

My 1st teddy. Not saying how old he is😉
Oh and a porcelain doll i inherited. Its ancient!

bringbackthestripes · 04/11/2018 19:38

Funny I have Christy bath towels that are 20 years old. We had them for a wedding present and just had our 20th anniversary.
Clock radio that lasted 30 years, radio no longer works as it just crackles but clock & alarm still function and that is after I spilt a hot chocolate on it as a teen.
Tumble dryer is 15 years old.
Readers digest the cookery year recipe book from 1973 my grandmother gave to my DM. There is only one recipe I ever make out of it & I don’t even use the book as I know the recipe off by heart.
DH has his grandmothers skillet & she died long before we even met.
Kenwood food processor which is at least 30 years old.
We just got rid of a portable TV that was 18 years old, still working but was a chunky one as it was before flat screens.

Feckitall · 04/11/2018 19:39

My hair dryer that I was given as a Christmas present when I was 14...38 years ago.....

bringbackthestripes · 04/11/2018 19:40

Oh and Nintendo game boy. 28 years old.

Melfish · 04/11/2018 19:42

I have a bath towel and blanket which DF took to boarding school in the 1950s.

I use a saucepan of DMs from the 1980s. Her ancient Singer sewing machine (prewar?) still works and was serviced recently.

I’ve also got some ancient garden tools from their house- still working but obviously a lot less use in my teeny garden.

woodhill · 04/11/2018 19:43

Yes a clock radio and music centre plus lamps

Binglebong · 04/11/2018 19:43

Lots of old clothing that still gets worn. 60s/70s mainly.

LIZS · 04/11/2018 19:45

Probably put the kiss of death on it now, but Zanussi washing machine from 1990! M and S Towels similar age but showing wear now. Also have towels from uni days but they have not been so regularly used since. Barbour waxed jacket from late 1980s.

bellsbuss · 04/11/2018 19:47

Slow cooker , food mixer , kitchen scales , our first bedroom suite which is solid pine and is now in our guest bedroom. Pine sideboard which is now painted dove grey with new handles. Laura Ashley lamp stand , just changed the shade. Ironing board, new cover. Various serving bowls, nice glasses and who knows what else.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 04/11/2018 19:49

I have the Kenwood electric hand mixer that my mum bought to make my first birthday cake thirty-five years ago. It still works perfectly.

mateysmum · 04/11/2018 19:49

Kenwood Chef
Electric carving knife

GooseberryJam · 04/11/2018 19:50

My parents' microwave, bought in 1986, still works. I've had about six during that time.
