The best nightclub...

Off the back of the other thread... what's the best nightclub you've ever been to?

(Disclaimer - my clubbing days were late 90s. Memories may be distorted by time. 😉)

Turnmills in Farringdon - Heavenly jukebox/heavenly social nights.

The Cross in king's cross. Three floors if I remember rightly catering for different tastes.

There are others but these are the main two I went to.

Also, my student union mid-week night at The Rocket - The Big Fish. Cheap drinks, epic dancing. 😁😁😁

Am I the only person who used to get the worst diarrhoea from taking speed so half my night at the club would be on the loo.

zenasfuck · 04/11/2018 10:54

@FrankiesKnuckle yes - his first love will always be peach 🍑
JJ is a swear word in this house now 😂

Mmmmdanone · 04/11/2018 11:00

The arches in Glasgow. Amazing place with a brilliant atmosphere.

pinkmagic1 · 04/11/2018 11:10

Pretty certain it was Fridays Kevin, it was a long time ago though! They used to have love shack in the Rig next door and when it finished they used to open the doors and let them in!

Thirtyrock39 · 04/11/2018 11:26

Rock city was Thursday indie night , Friday rock/ goth night ( lots of goths in wedding dresses and DMs) and Saturday was like an indie/ party night
I've been to a lot of 'cooler' nightclubs round the country but def has some of my most fun nights at rock city. I used to go in the 5th year with a fiver - bus into town , entrance, glass of coke and just dance all night - great nights didn't even need booze or anything stronger

evilharpy · 04/11/2018 11:28

Event 2 in Brighton in the late 90s. It was probably shit really but I came from a small town in Ireland and had never seen anything like it. Had some brilliant nights there including when Paul Oakenfold played and look back on it with rosy tinted specs.

Any of the Irish contingent remember Lacey’s?

Haircutdilemma · 04/11/2018 12:40

Any of you that miss it, they do Raver tots which is raves with the kids. Not quite the same but good for a bit of nostaliga.

LostontheWestway · 04/11/2018 12:51

Rock City was Student Night on Thursdays
Love Shack on Fridays (60s in Disco 2, 70s in The Rig and 80s in the main room)
And Rock/Metal night on Saturdays

Yes that’s how I remember it. I remember accidentally going on a Saturday once and wondering wtf I’d walked into.

pinkmagic1 · 04/11/2018 13:21

I could have sworn rock night was Fridays, spent enough time in there! I remember it as Thirtyrock39. The love shack thing was definitely in the rig when I used to go. I remember them opening goal the rig. Maybe it changed, what years did you go Kevin?

pinkmagic1 · 04/11/2018 13:21

Opening the rig that should say!

DiaryofWimpyMum · 04/11/2018 13:36

The Fubar in Stirling
Carlton Studios Edinburgh, it was a total dive and very basic but I had some great nights there

FrankiesKnuckle · 04/11/2018 14:13

@zenasfuck ha ha! It was awful.
I had to leave just after 4 as live down on south coast, that was an interesting journey 😎

Been to a few Clockworks too, planning the big one next year!

AlienBotanist · 04/11/2018 14:16

Manchester. 1990s:
Ritz
Brickhouse
Rockworld
42nd At
5th Avenue
The Poly Union (can't remember what it was called)
University union (academy)

Visiting friends in Birmingham- snobs and medicine bar

Are there any alternative/metal clubs in Birmingham/Manchester nowadays?

Louisa111 · 04/11/2018 14:25

The fridge... Brixton.. some of the best nights here and used to love the balcony bit looking down on the crowd.
Koko ( Camden) is a strong fave amongst many others before kids and sleepless nights came along Grin

BillywigSting · 04/11/2018 14:28

Both the best and the worst, the krazyhouse in Liverpool.

Never any loo roll, you took your life into your hands taking your shoes off (or eating from the kiosk) but it well and truly lived up to its name.

Had some of the best nights there drinking rum on the rhino.

flumpybear · 04/11/2018 14:50

Rock City definitely, and the Rig next door! Met my husband there lol!

The Venue in New Cross was great

Lizard Lounge, Beatroot and Bomb in Nottingham

Astoria II in London - Gay night in saturdaynwith my gay friends from work (hotels) and Rock night on the Sunday with my friends from home and boyfriend - many weeks I spent both Saturday and Sunday nights there lol 😆

Charley50 · 04/11/2018 15:07

Anyone remember the Shake n FingerPop and Rapattack warehouse parties? Before house music; rare groove and hip hop?

AamdC · 04/11/2018 15:34

Yep Alien i went to all those clubs in the 90,s too after starting in the subway on oxford road i walked past it a few weeks ago as ds had an appointment in manchester and it looks so grim now did you also gonto the venue?

KevinTheCarrot · 04/11/2018 15:52

Maybe it changed, what years did you go Kevin?

From about 2001 onwards.

Love Shack was upstairs and more indie stuff downstairs.

MulticolourMophead · 04/11/2018 16:06

Rock Night at Rock City certainly used to be on a Friday, I went so often in the late 1980s/early 1990s. Had so much fun.

AlienBotanist · 04/11/2018 17:13

AamdC it was pretty grim even in the 90s! Grin
Yeah, I'm pretty sure we went to the venue... but I'm struggling to remember where it was- Oxford Rd maybe?
