The worst nightclub you've ever been to?

Ziggys, York c.1999. An old Regency townhouse that you would swear was still lived in. Sofas, scatter cushions, and chintz wallpaper on the walls - chintz wallpaper that actually started sweating by 10pm. The main dance floor was down in the basement with only one narrow staircase for access and which must have breached every single health and safety law known to man.

We only kept going because it was two WKD's for £1.50 on student night.

Bogiez in Cardiff. Grim, dirty, normally no doors on the toilets. Very sleazy.

Metros, which was in a sort of underground vaulted room, and the sweat dripped down on you

ClashCityRocker · 03/11/2018 10:27

Xuli I put it you that the willow was far far worse on its best day than ziggys was on its worst...

Mind you, ziggys did used to let you in underage if you wore a low cut top, which was always handy...

ZackPizzazz · 03/11/2018 10:29

Abacus, in the City. A vile aggressive meat market where you couldn't walk across the floor without feeling incredibly unsafe. Thankfully shut now. It was one night years ago and I've never forgotten how much I hated it.

sweetkitty · 03/11/2018 10:34

Circus Tavern in Essex, boys went upstairs for strippers and lap dances, girls went downstairs for male strippers then at 11pm the whole place opened up it was carnage! When the lights went up there was a couple going at it in the bottle bin!

Closer to home yes to Motherwell Point and Hamilton Palace.

I met my DH in the Metro on Saltcoats, I grew up going to that club so it’s my favourite.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 03/11/2018 10:38

Cinatra's or Sinatra's , Croydon .

Rough as place . Went once .

Whitelisbon · 03/11/2018 10:38

@embrarocks pebbles in troon was a total dive - I was there the night the floor fell through, we were gutted when they turfed us out! We'd just been to the bar and weren't allowed to take our drinks with us.

mossyroundhill · 03/11/2018 10:51

Love it that Long Eaton's been mentioned! My home town :)

Worst for me were probably Zanzibar in Derby, Lace in Cheltenham, and Rubadub in Nottingham.

Rock City will always be my favourite.

DollyWilde · 03/11/2018 10:53

Too young for Bojangles in Guildford but Dusk (the old Cinderella’s) at the top of town was pretty appalling...

Strawberry Moons on Greek St was my first London “clubbing” experience, and an experience it truly was Wink

DollyWilde · 03/11/2018 10:54

Not strawberry moons, moonlighting!

Whatamuddleduck · 03/11/2018 11:03

I’m amazed no Plymouth clubs have been mentioned. Jesters?
Any incarnation of what was at one point club zero. I remember cockroaches. Lovely!

I spent way to much time clubbing from age 14. I really hope that’s not still a thing!

Thesearmsofmine · 03/11/2018 11:03

Level One in Reading, Regal in Uxbridge and agree with Bojanglea in Guildford.

Also a club in Northampton who used to hv be a student night on Wednesdays. It was £10 all you can drink but was just awful, so sticky and grimy.

Whatthefunk · 03/11/2018 11:05

The Mississippi showboat Warrington

wonkylegs · 03/11/2018 11:06

The Trav (il trovatore) Ilkley
DHs home town, he took me for a night out before it closed down - he takes me to all the 'glamorous' places
The exposed beams and shite rustic plaster made it look like a sticky rubbish Italian bistro gone wrong
Quite good description here http://www.wow247.co.uk/2016/03/16/britains-small-town-nightclubs-did-they-deserve-to-die/

PrivateParkin · 03/11/2018 11:12

Dolly I used to love Strawberry Moons! That was the other side of Regent St though - more Mayfair. And very classy Grin

Panicwithmephisto · 03/11/2018 11:28

Anyone for the Cats Whiskers (only for the locals) and Malibu club in Weymouth?

catinboots9 · 03/11/2018 11:33

Surprised no one has mentioned any of the gems in Kent apart from Bibas!

Anyone remember Flamingos in Swanley. I was 12/13 when I started going there. I think it burnt down, probably due to all the hairspray fumes.

catinboots9 · 03/11/2018 11:34

Also just remembered Stars in Greenwich. It was an old bingo hall. It's was a fucking dump

BurningGubbins · 03/11/2018 11:39

Man, this thread has put such a smile on my face, remembering my shite clubbing days. The only ones mentioned so far that I’ve been to are the Hippodrome (went more than once for some reason, possibly the laser show) and Strawberry Moons. Infernos in Clapham was so utterly shit that I left after half an hour.

But, the undoubted winner is Cinderella’s (Cinders, to those in the know) in Swansea. Fuck me, it was excellently dire. If you were 18 you were too old to be there, unless you were a dirty old man. I drank “blue moons”, which were oddly opaque and milky looking blue acid of some sort, but cheaper than Hooch.
Standard sticky carpet. Random chips served at about 2am. Always a fight at some point, regularly saw girls getting their heads smashed in the sinks in the toilets.
The best was the “beer garden”. Everyone cooled off/sobered up sitting on the low wall out there, the other side of which was a sheer drop about 15 metres into the sea. Good times!

seastargirl · 03/11/2018 12:06

So glad the circus tavern has a mention! 1.60 for a double and mixer, in the middle of no where so any fights that started inside always got finished outside at the end.

Male and female strippers and an all you can eat buffet! What more could you want!

Plus it was always pot luck on what coat you'd get back from the cloak room, no idea what their system was but it rarely worked!

BathFullOfEels · 03/11/2018 12:25

stoneagemum no it wasn’t a foam party and no I didn’t gripe anyone’s tits Confused. I think it’s fairly safe to say there was more than one fight in a crappy club in Torquay in 2002!

jarviscockerslover · 03/11/2018 12:32

Wesley's nightclub in Pudsey. The bar was actually behind bars with openings to serve drinks and pay. Classy!

catinboots9 · 03/11/2018 12:35

Did anyone else go to Malibu Stacy at the Hanover Grand?
