The worst nightclub you've ever been to?

Ziggys, York c.1999. An old Regency townhouse that you would swear was still lived in. Sofas, scatter cushions, and chintz wallpaper on the walls - chintz wallpaper that actually started sweating by 10pm. The main dance floor was down in the basement with only one narrow staircase for access and which must have breached every single health and safety law known to man.

We only kept going because it was two WKD's for £1.50 on student night.

omgineedanamechange that really made me laugh. You can't buy class like that

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 03/11/2018 16:46

Plant Earth in Leeds was hilarious. The revolving dance floor was so small and got so full you couldn't actually move so you just stood there packed on sardines going round and round. Until inevitably there were too many people and it stopped moving. At that point, everyone shouted 'push!' and the people on the edge used to stand with one foot on, one foot off, pushing it round like a roundabout.

Pink Coconut in Derby was as grim as previously described. As was Valentino's in Stoke. I swear, if they'd actually checked people's IDs, the place would have been empty.

I was going to say Kellys too.
We travelled up and stayed overnight in a B and B because people raved about it Hmm
I went to the Hippodrome in Leicester Square, aged 16 on a trip with college. I don't remember anything about it except my friend had her bag nicked.

ColinsVeryJolly · 03/11/2018 16:52

@zenasfuck

I’ve never been a Wolves native so just followed my boyfriend, but just had a google and I think it was where the Scala cinema once was on Worcester Street.

A great rock/metal night. if you avoided the gangsters and toilets

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 03/11/2018 16:56

Anyone have any memories of the Venue on Crowley Rs in Oxford, circa 1991? No fire escapes, it was just like a big room above a shop, utterly heavy with sweaty bodies and 50p for a shot of watered down vodka. Bloody awful place but great house music!!

April2020mom · 03/11/2018 16:56

Casino Nightclub in Guildford. Worst night ever.

picklemethat · 03/11/2018 16:59

Jesters in Plymouth (gotta have a go on the punch bag). In fact I’ve never been in a good club there.

Wedgies and Steamrock in Bristol. The latter used to do a ‘Centurion’ competition where you’d drink a shot a minute.

Prime spot though has to go to Angelo’s in Swindon. Utter shithole.

LeslieYep · 03/11/2018 17:00

Cromwell's in Huntingdon. Awful place - no atmosphere at all!

Had great times at the junction in Cambridge and that place on peas hill(?) Up the stairs. Forget the name now!

Had great teenage nights at pulse in Loughborough (echos was always empty and sticky!)
Jimmy deans in the middle of nowhere but not far from the Travs!

workshyfop · 03/11/2018 17:01

@KenDoddsDadsDog I always went on Tuesdays Grin

shamofamockery · 03/11/2018 17:02

God I had some awesome nights in Ceasers. £20 all you can drink & a midnight buffet - what's not to love?!?

user1457017537 · 03/11/2018 17:04

Circus Tavern only place I ever left before dinner was served.

DontHarshMyMello · 03/11/2018 17:13

@picklemethat yes that was at the Plymouth Jesters as well Grin

BathFullOfEels · 03/11/2018 17:13

I can’t remember what it was called or where exactly this was - somewhere in eastish London. We had a works Christmas do booked at a ‘club with a swimming pool’, which around 18 years ago (to me at least) had me imagining some kind of sophisticated, tropical paradise. It turned out to just be a council leisure centre that had been shut down and reopened as a ‘club’. The dance floor was very clearly a gym possibly until a few hours before we turned up as there was still loads of equipment bolted to the floor that everyone kept tripping over.

timeforachangemethinks · 03/11/2018 17:16

Churchill’s in Accrington! £10 for enrty and all your drinks. An absolute dive but I’ve actully got really good memories from there!

@BonnieF would the pink coconut still been around in the mid 90,s my sister was at Derby Univetsity and i think we might have gone i also remember a Blue note anf a Green man?

Fattofit · 03/11/2018 17:36

At Circus Tavern in the days when it was £12 for unlimited drinks and a buffet I fell over (on a bottle someone had flung on the dancefloor) and cut my leg open - on a broken bottle - quite badly. In hindsight I should have got it stitched (or at least had a tetanus shot) at the time I was just embarrassed that I had to be seen without my sheer 10 denier black tights which were offered to ribbons.

It was either there or Casino Rooms where a group of guys had a whipround to buy my bra. The pot got up to £75 but I gracefully declined.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/11/2018 17:37

@workshyfop There’s a reunion on 24th November , I’m tempted . Won’t be the same though if I don’t come home with fag burnt clothes 😂

ThanosSavedMe · 03/11/2018 17:47

@my3bears I remember when Crystals opened

One of the worst I’ve been to was sector 5 also in Leicester. It reeked of stale sweat.

I also remember a placed called hombres, somewhere off oxford street I think. Full of slimy creepy men, squaddies and minor was tender actors!

Happy days 😄

Iamtheresurrection · 03/11/2018 17:54

In Edinburgh
Walkers - male strippers, I remember being disgusted at one of them putting his bits in a drink. Total waste of vodka
Subway west end - every financial services firm in Edinburgh went there after work on a Friday. Total carnage by 8pm when it turned into a rave venue and there were people in white gloves fighting for dance floor space against office workers!
