The worst nightclub you've ever been to?

Ziggys, York c.1999. An old Regency townhouse that you would swear was still lived in. Sofas, scatter cushions, and chintz wallpaper on the walls - chintz wallpaper that actually started sweating by 10pm. The main dance floor was down in the basement with only one narrow staircase for access and which must have breached every single health and safety law known to man.

We only kept going because it was two WKD's for £1.50 on student night.

I had a bottle of vodka confiscated from me by the police when I was queuing for Zens. Still bitter. It was almost full

BoooForYou · 03/11/2018 15:03

@wombatron couldn't agree more, Oasthouse was great, I'd go Subs at King Charles in Gillingham on Friday, and then Oasthouse Saturday, and Monday evening was good too. Some of the band's downstairs were great, not sure when you were there but I went when everyone was mad on Petburger.
Never went to Strawberry Moons though.
Tap n tin is the only one left apparently.

1998, the event ii in Brighton. Total meat market on a weekend.
2000, fifth avenue in Cambridge. For the same reason. We used to call it filth. And it was. It really was.

Tumblers in Bradford in the early 1990s. Such a dive but we loved it

Flowerfae · 03/11/2018 15:08

The Krazy House in Liverpool, one and only club I have ever been to and it was a bit of a hell hole, to be honest.

ballsdeep · 03/11/2018 15:14

Escape in Swansea. Many a good night I had there but 😮😮

wombatron · 03/11/2018 15:16

@BoooForYou £1 a pint on a Monday or Tuesday it used to be. Am out of Medway now but still get a bit nostalgic. Ole Dave on the door of Oast, buy your membership and then spend the night standing outside smoking 😂

Omgineedanamechange · 03/11/2018 15:19

Place called Micky Muffs. They had a four foot clown model in the corner that wanked in time to the music

The Razz was both shit and brilliant
Nation I remember from student night Monday and K cider. Later to host Cream and just as horrible inside.
There was only one club in Sunderland where us indie kids could go. Blocked toilets , sticky floors but brilliant music .

Glittertwins · 03/11/2018 15:37

Gullivers in Grimsby was pretty crap, how I didn't fall down the stairs is a mystery...
Wally World in Hemel Hempstead was dire. I can't even remember the names of the two toilets that used to be there!

ClenchQueen · 03/11/2018 15:40

@catinboots and @burninggubbins don't get me wrong I had fun nights there and yes the pulling was great but come on it was ... naff, wasn't it? Always seemed like a provincial 80s place somehow transported to central London. Especially when there were some genuinely great clubs around at the time, I felt a bit sorry for the tourists there who thought that neon signs and a band playing 70s covers was all the capital had to offer.

DontHarshMyMello · 03/11/2018 15:41

My local nightclub had foam parties once a month. I think the owners of the club thought that it was acceptable for the foam parties to replace any actual cleaning of the floors or anywhere Hmm.
There was a jacuzzi upstairs, it was just a human soup. They kept the lights down low so you couldn’t see the wanking and fingering going on.

willowbranch · 03/11/2018 15:51

The Raz is still going but at the weekend it's now like an after hours club that doesn't get busy until about 2 and is open until 6 believe

I once fell down the outside stairs (drunk) in the raz, was lucky I didn't break my back!!

I also kissed a lot of frogs in there back in the day

workshyfop · 03/11/2018 16:03

@KenDoddsDadsDog do you mean Ku Club in Sunderland?

mooglycrunch · 03/11/2018 16:05

Jesters in Plymouth is still going :(
I remember my friend breaking her hand on the punching ball in there when were about 16......

ToEarlyForDecorations · 03/11/2018 16:06

Cinderella Rockerfella in Kingston. Oh yeah, I remember. Went there once. I was dressed for supper and a music performance. I cringed when I realised nightclub just meant disco.

Next time I went was to one of those damn singles nights at the same night club. Less said the better.

I think Alexanders in Kingston was as bad as it got. For your ticket price you got entry and a meal. Choice was always either pork chop and two veg or casserole and two veg. With arctic roll OR tinned fruit salad for afters. There was dancing on the dance floor and drinks at the bar but I always felt, 'is that it ?'

Blazers in Windsor was a good entertainment venue. I saw Lenny Henry doing his stand up comedy act there, he was good. Also saw Hale and Pace. Then another night I saw Rick Mayall. All were very funny and very good.

I went to a nightclub in Camberley, Lakeside I think, to see the Shaddows. They were good.

DontHarshMyMello · 03/11/2018 16:08

@mooglycrunch that’s where I was talking about Smile

Cauliflowersqueeze · 03/11/2018 16:10

The “white rooms” in Manchester in the 90s. Very low ceilings and it took me a while to work out why it kept feeling like I was getting rain splashes down the back of my neck.

Then realised it was sweat dripping off the ceilings.
🤮

TillyVonMilly · 03/11/2018 16:11

The Tuxedo Princess was originally in Newcastle, early 80’s. I used to go up with a friend when I was 17/18 as her family came from there. Had some cracking nights out, it seemed quite posh back then Grin

Loyaultemelie · 03/11/2018 16:15

Kelly's Portrush, early noughties, total cattlemarket.

The Venue Belfast opened after everywhere else closed but full of dodgy married blokes with their wedding rings in their pocket

Justanotheruser01 · 03/11/2018 16:17

The village, Mansfield around 1995.
