Baked beans in Cottage pie

Do you?

I love beans in cottage pie, one of my DC hates it, so I always ended making them a smaller separate one.

Just wondered how many others do add them in.

I've known others do it but never had the courage myself. I cooked one tonight with the usual carrots and onions.

Peachpebbles · 30/10/2018 21:57

No. But DH sometimes does to bulk it out. Prefer it without.

DramaAlpaca · 30/10/2018 21:58

No! I can't imagine that would be nice at all.

Doghorsechicken · 30/10/2018 22:02

Yes it’s yummy! Also put them in Chilli (along with the kidney beans).

goforkyourself · 30/10/2018 22:03

Baked beans are evil ANYWHERE!!

😈😈😈

Cantarese · 30/10/2018 22:03

Never! Just no! I actually love beans, love them on toast, beans with sausages, but I can't get on board beans in a cottage pie.

Mummaluelae · 30/10/2018 22:03

Ewwww. No just no. Can't stand it. I'll stick to mince, carrots, onions and peas! Sometimes some celery or leeks

Jitters22 · 30/10/2018 22:03

I don't know about 'in' cottage pie 'with' cottage pie is fine.

Reaa · 30/10/2018 22:04

Doghorsechicken have never tried them in Chilli, will try next time.

Not beans,no, but I always put a few peas in.

Wallabyone · 30/10/2018 22:06

We have baked beans with cottage pie (always known as Shepard's pie here, despite the fact it's beef!), our peas and carrots in it.

userblablabla · 30/10/2018 22:06

Oooooo yes!!

Greenteandchives · 30/10/2018 22:07

They are lovely in corned beef has with onions and potatoes. Not sure a cottage pie with baked beans is right. Maybe call it something else.

Greenteandchives · 30/10/2018 22:07

*hash.

Meet0nTheIedge · 30/10/2018 22:09

No way on earth.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 30/10/2018 22:09

Nonononononono!

Carrot and onion, good stock, seasoning. Never bloody beans.

driggle · 30/10/2018 22:10

DP's grandad puts them in cottage pie (first time I'd ever known baked beans to be in one) and while it's okay I wouldn't say I particularly enjoy it. It's the bean juice/beefy flavour combo which I don't like.

LeslieKnopefan · 30/10/2018 22:11

No but I add them the second day when eating left overs. Yum

goforkyourself · 30/10/2018 22:11

Why did I open this thread?

Beans bad enough but then I read celery. Celery (just seeing the word) makes me want to simultaneously cry and vomit.

cheminotte · 30/10/2018 22:12

They used baked beans on Eat Well for Less when making cottage pie and that’s the first time I’d heard of it.

VenusInSpurs · 30/10/2018 22:15

No, and not in Chilli either.
