Baked beans in Cottage pie

Do you?

I love beans in cottage pie, one of my DC hates it, so I always ended making them a smaller separate one.

Just wondered how many others do add them in.

Bananalanacake

I've known others do it but never had the courage myself. COURAGE my friend Grin. No, haven't either. But then, I live with culinary dirtbags who don't like 'mixed up' food. Asshats Halloween Angry.

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 30/10/2018 22:20

I hate baked beans so that sounds vile.

Reaa · 30/10/2018 22:22

I hate carrots in cottage pie, fine served with but not in and only if no beans available.

Not in it. But my Mum always served cottage pie with beans.

MrsJayy · 30/10/2018 22:29

Oh good god no just why! My mum used to put them in chilli its frickin rank Envy if i want to add something to shepherds pie i bung a hand ful of peas in but NO BEANS

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 30/10/2018 22:30

When I am ruler of the universe, the first thing I will be doing is creating universal laws against the existence of baked beans. To add them into the food of the non-gods that is cottage pie will be a crime punishable by a long, slow and painful death.

greendale17 · 30/10/2018 22:32

No, never heard of it and never had one with baked beans in it.

MrsJayy · 30/10/2018 22:32

You could just chuck tins of baked beans at them once

toastfiend · 30/10/2018 22:33

I don't, my Mum does. I like both versions!

steppemum · 30/10/2018 22:36

no.
just no.
Totally changes the taste, and makes it sort of claggy.
I like baked beans, as baked beans. I cannot imagine any dish that tastes better with them in, unless it tasted rubbish before hand.

MrsJayy · 30/10/2018 22:38

I like baked beans but they are not and never should be an ingredient

MrsJayy · 30/10/2018 22:40

Ive not had chilli since 1988ish because Ihave flashbacks of beans

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 30/10/2018 22:41

MrsJayy perfect. The punishment should most definitely fit the crime so being pummeled to death by tins of beans would be entirely appropriate.

funmummy48 · 30/10/2018 22:45

You're describing what we call Cowboy Pie in our house! (Cottage Pie with baked beans in it & grated cheese on top of the.mashed potato topping)

Growingboys · 30/10/2018 22:45

These are two of my favourite things to eat but not together!

My mum used to call it cowboy pie if it had beans in. I much prefer it without.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 30/10/2018 22:56

Beans in the mix, cheese on top = cowboy pie! My six year old would eat this daily given the chance, which is great as you can get loads of veg in it Grin

GiantKitten · 30/10/2018 22:57

ooooh yes, beans go in here!

Generally 4-500g of mince, about 3 onions, 1 tin of tomatoes, some seasoning & worcs sauce, & 1 tin of beans, plus a disgraceful amount of mash on top.

It's not properly cottage pie at all, cowboy pie did somebody say? But we call it shepherds pie (apologies to purists) & have it with frozen peas (cooked Grin) & everybody here loves it.

Sorry Blush

puppymouse · 30/10/2018 22:58

Always

FangTasticFeast · 30/10/2018 22:58

Not in it but I always have them with it

vampirethriller · 31/10/2018 08:00

No, but I have rinsed the juice off baked beans and put them in chilli when I had no kidney beans.

ShatnersWig · 31/10/2018 08:10

Sometimes I have cottage pie with carrots and mushrooms in it with a large side of peas.

Sometimes I have mince and replace the carrots, mushrooms and peas with baked beans and serve it with spuds. So it's a bit like a stew. It's bloody gorgeous.

OliviaStabler · 31/10/2018 08:12

Why would anyone do this?

CwtchesAreTheBest · 31/10/2018 08:15

I love baked beans but nowhere near anything in gravy such as cottage pie, meat pie or a roast dinner!
