Anyone else dread the clocks going back

I hate the long dark nights
Go in to work in the dark
Come home in the dark
I find myself getting quite anxious and low as the weeks go on
Try and embrace the cosy element but I miss daylight
I am the grinch I know Grin

Anyone who suffers from cold feet indoors, treat yourself to (or request a present of) a pair of house boots from Celtic Sheepskin - just a lighter-sole version of the Ugg type, but you can still wear them out.

They are brilliant! I wear mine nearly all winter indoors.

(I have no personal or commercial interest BTW - just a major fan.)

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 28/10/2018 10:17

Well given that I was 🥂🍸till the wee hours I cannot complain about the extra hour of sleep Grin
However I already feel decidedly meh about the months ahead. Last winter was tough on my mental health so need to work on that
Might start another thread about ways to keep well and positive physically and mentally over the winter for us dark nights naysayers

Its so weird that the days start getting longer on December 21st as I never notice the difference until about March!

My feeling is that it's dark at 5pm from Christmas til March

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 28/10/2018 10:38

It is odd isn’t it and how somewhere around the end of Feb/early March there seems to be a leap into lighter evenings when it’s actually such a gradual thing

I also hate it. I like light and being outdoors and warmth. The darkness really gets to me. I've actively tried to enjoy autumn and winter more the past few years but it's still not for me.

Likeshyt · 28/10/2018 11:14

See I’m a winter fan, I get major summer blues! “Summertime sadness”

Odd isn’t it? I LOVE WINTER!

Rockbird · 28/10/2018 11:18

That's it Likeshyt. I'm not sure people who hate winter understand that for many people, summer brings on their SAD. It certainly does for me. It's not just a case of hating the heat, it actually makes me more depressed. My life is on hold till it cools down and darkens and then I can get on with things.

Likeshyt · 28/10/2018 11:27

rockbird thank F for that! My mood has increased an astronomical amount since the weather has cooled this summer has particularly been a hard one due to the heat being so severe, I’ve really seen an impact on my little mood. How are you on holidays though? I’m fine, which is absolutely bonkers!!!!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 28/10/2018 11:35

@Likeshyt I’m the same. I find holidays fine as there’s air conditioning everywhere and a nice pool to dip in.

Vintagevixen · 28/10/2018 12:10

Funnily enough I'm exactly the same, beginning to think that I may have a version of SAD related to Summer. This summer made me feel so depressed, I couldn't go out in the heat much of the day if I was off work so spent a lot of time inside. Plus the lack of sleep! I have to say my mood has improved considerably in the last month with proper chilly weather.

Also don't drive so getting to public transport was a real trial for me, I kind of feel that the intense heat is sucking energy out of me, think I am a vampire as being in direct sunlight is awful for me! In fact I loved being at work as we have air conditioning and few windows!

A chilly, bright autumn day is perfect for me, love being outside then when the sun is weak or there's a storm brewing. I don't really holiday much in hot places, generally stay in the UK.

But I do appreciate many people thrive in the sun, so we need both!

TheWiseWomansFear · 28/10/2018 12:12

Love it - woke up this morning worried I'd slept in, nope 9.30am

BakedBeans47 · 28/10/2018 12:20

Hate it

Vintagevixen · 28/10/2018 12:26

Oh and I'm a July birthday so clearly the summer/winter birthday hypotheses incorrect in my case!

AnyFucker · 28/10/2018 12:40

I am peri menopausal and found this summer a nightmare. Quite happy to welcome winter for the 1st time in my life. Size 10-12 for your information, fatshamers Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 28/10/2018 12:44

I'm crap in extreme heat and cold, and tend to like the seasons almost-equally.

I don't feel trapped indoors by winter as I just modify my clothing to suit. And I leave the house early and get back 12 hours' later, so will always be travelling in the dark during winter.

There's so much that I like about each season. I guess I'm easily pleased!

NigelGresley · 28/10/2018 13:15

Same problem every year, along with half the population no doubt: how on earth do I adjust the clock on the oven, or should I just leave it until March? Confused

Anyone else dread the clocks going back
NoWordForFluffy · 28/10/2018 13:18

Have you tried holding the minus button down at all?

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 28/10/2018 13:21

On my oven, you hold down the button with a clock face on it until the display starts flashing, and then use the - button.

NigelGresley · 28/10/2018 13:22

I’ve tried both of those and different versions! Confused

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 28/10/2018 13:23

Can you photograph the whole of the display including all the buttons?

NoWordForFluffy · 28/10/2018 13:27

Yeah. I might have a better idea if I can see it all!

NigelGresley · 28/10/2018 13:55

Yay I’ve done it! DH won’t know, he’ll be confused Grin

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 28/10/2018 13:58

Yay! All mine are done now except the analogue clock in the living room.

chocolatebox1 · 28/10/2018 14:21

I don't like it because I don't feel as safe walking around in the evenings when it's dark.

I seem to have great difficulty changing the clocks on the kitchen appliances and my bedside alarm clock.

However if I'm at home in the evenings I like the cosier feeling!

Delatron · 28/10/2018 16:00

I’m a summer lover, I thrive in the light and the warmth. So struggle this time of year.

Cosiness and candles can only get you so far and it doesn’t tend to warm up until April.

Sunrise is currently 6.50 so we’ll have about a week of light in the morning and then dark mornings and evenings. Wonder where the poster lives where the clock change helps with 5.30am gym get ups?!
