Anyone else dread the clocks going back

I hate the long dark nights
Go in to work in the dark
Come home in the dark
I find myself getting quite anxious and low as the weeks go on
Try and embrace the cosy element but I miss daylight
I am the grinch I know Grin

Just watched the clock on my tablet go from 1:59 to 1:00. It'll work, Graphista.

Teddy1970 · 28/10/2018 01:04

The shortest day isn't that far away but you don't really have lighter evenings until March, it's the same with the longest day in June, you don't really notice the nights drawing in until September...and Winter officially starts on 21st December! I love all the season's but Autumn and Winter are my favourites!

AvengingGerbil · 28/10/2018 01:15

I have flu. I can’t sleep and I’m waiting for the night to be over and now I have to go through this whole bastarding hour again.

HelenaDove · 28/10/2018 01:49

" I think a lot of the people complaining about sweat, overheating etc. in the summer are overweight"

Any oppertunity for a dig. FYI i hated extreme heat at a size 28 i hated it at a size 12 i hate it as a size 14.

I love autumn, l love the dark nights and being all cosy at home but I hate the fact that my 3 small children don't understand and have been trying to get up for the last hour! It's bad enough that they think 5 am is ok in summer time! 4 am is jut not on.

SinglePringle · 28/10/2018 05:21

I usually wake at 6.30. It’s 5.20 and I’m wiiiiiiiide awake, so currently I hate it.

I love summer, heat and long light evenings. When it’s dark at 5pm tonight, I’ll be most pissed off.

Bring back the daylight!!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 28/10/2018 05:23

Not sure it makes a difference really. Yes it's lighter in the morning for a few eeeks but then it's dark all the time anyway regardless of having changed the clock or not.

SinglePringle · 28/10/2018 05:30

(Oh, and I bloody detest hot chocolate!)

PhilomenaDeathsHeadHawkMoth · 28/10/2018 05:32

I woke up at 2.30, DS2 woke up at 3.42 and DD woke up at 5. Hmm

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/10/2018 05:37

Look at the times on the thread, before and after the change Grin

desertmum · 28/10/2018 06:36

I hate it - it's 6.30 and still dark here and yet the animals are shouting to be fed as in their heads it's 7.30 and feeding is late (usually 7am). So I am going to trudge out in the dark and feed horses, sheep, chickens. It's just crap - there's still the same number of daylight hours available. Wouldn't it be better to let businesses and schools change their hours if they wish but keep the time the same?

WhoisyourDaddyandwhatdoeshedo · 28/10/2018 06:39

The lighter mornings really help with my 5:30am gym getups! Xx

bumblingbovine49 · 28/10/2018 07:47

Ioathe the dark mornings. I am missing the summer already. I know I am one of those mad people who liked the summer we have had. I am not anxious about it but I don't look forward to it at all. Winter is something to be endured for me. I love the longer light evenings of Spring and summer as I am an owl rather than a lark. Dark mornings make it even harder to get up in the mornings for workGrin

bumblingbovine49 · 28/10/2018 07:51

My laat point was meant to be the lighter mornings being the one good thing about the clocks going back. Just realised it doesn't read like that.

Other than that I don't like it much as it heralds winter

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 28/10/2018 07:57

It's 07:56 and the sun is properly up Grin.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/10/2018 08:09

I don’t like it. Scraping ice off the car in the dark is all to look forward to. However, as of 21 December, the days start getting longer again. I do try and make the most of winter sunshine though, I even force myself to go for a walk during lunch hour if its bright and sunny.

DinosApple · 28/10/2018 08:14

I like the clocks going back!
My DC go to bed at 8pm or later usually and will be in bed just after 7pm instead. And they will wake up in the morning instead of me having to shout them a few times.

Not keen on the dark days, but that's the pay off for long summer days. And the extremely long dry spell this summer has made me realise too much of any season/weather isn't my thing, variety is great!

I woke at 4.30 this morning, so if I'm going to take my extra hour in bed tonight ;)

MrsJBaptiste · 28/10/2018 08:24

Philomena - I woke up at 2.30, DS2 woke up at 3.42 and DD woke up at 5

But surely you wouldn't have got up for the day if you'd have woken up at 3.30, DS2 woke up at 4.42 and DD woke up at 6?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 28/10/2018 08:26

Upsy1981 - I have exactly the same theory as you re favourite time of the year and it works 9 times out of 10! My birthday is in July and I detest winter - not the weather so much - but the relentless darkness. I also hate hot chocolate, Christmas, Hallowe'en and 'snuggling' under blankets. Just horrible. And why do people get such a long time off at Christmas - what can you do with the short days? Far better to have a week off in late spring/summer to be able to enjoy it. Roll on March - don't mind that with the daffodils, trees bursting into leaf and birds nesting. Aaaaah!

Meet0nTheIedge · 28/10/2018 08:28

Wouldn't it be better to let businesses and schools change their hours if they wish but keep the time the same?

It would be complete chaos. Imagine if your child's school suddenly changed to opening an hour later and your job and your other child's school did not. Then six months later changed back again. No thanks.

Dowser · 28/10/2018 08:29

Hate it.
The countryside looks beautiful today. Suns out . I love the light and by 5 pm it’s all over

beanaseireann · 28/10/2018 08:38

I hate it. Summer is my season.
If I could afford it and had no family or work ties I'd be off somewhere warm and brighter for the winter.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 28/10/2018 08:51

Wow @ ElectricMonkey so much hate, you need to chill out. I’m not a massive fan of summer (shock horror)

Btw I’m not fat either, but so what if I was? I’d still hate summer and body shaming others is not very nice. Going to enjoy the cosy winter muhahaha get over it.

mydogisthebest · 28/10/2018 09:11

I absolutely hate it. Dark evenings, well afternoons really, are NOT cosy. They make me feel really miserable.

Also it doesn't make a difference in the morning for very long and then it is back to being to being dark in the mornings and the afternoons. I so wish I could just hibernate.

It was worse when I worked and had to leave home when it was dark and then get back home in the dark but even being at home I still really dislike it.

I would like to live somewhere where it never gets dark. Sweden in the summer was like heaven to me as it never got dark at all
