Anyone else dread the clocks going back

I hate the long dark nights
Go in to work in the dark
Come home in the dark
I find myself getting quite anxious and low as the weeks go on
Try and embrace the cosy element but I miss daylight
I am the grinch I know Grin

I suffer from SAD so I'm absolutely dreading it. The constant darkness in the very depths of winter does strange things to my mind. I always wish I could feel that sense of cosiness in the winter that other people describe. I do enjoy the extra hour's sleep on the first Sunday, though, as I have a lot of trouble sleeping.

Meet0nTheIedge · 27/10/2018 12:41

If you could have the long daylight hours of summer combined with the cooler temperatures of autumn that would be perfect for me, the evenings were lovely this year but the heatwave made daytime unbearable for what seemed like forever.

Purplehammer · 27/10/2018 12:45

It’s been happening all my life.
So every year the same.Just a mechanical moving of the hands of the clocks.
Apart from having to know when to do it, dosen’t Affect me in any way.

AnotherEmma · 27/10/2018 12:51

YANBU. I hate it too. It’s depressing when it gets dark so early. Plus now I have a toddler who wakes up early, it’s going to be painful Sad

JaneJeffer · 27/10/2018 12:51

I hate winter. The only good thing is the older you get the quicker it goes by!

Crunchymum · 27/10/2018 12:55

I love the clocks changing.

Love the seasons

Love the variety of weather we have.

I embrace the longer evenings but I also love the darker evenings. I love all that comes with each season. Can't wait to hanker down early on Sunday evening with the kids to watch a movie

Don't get me wrong, I bitch about doing the school run in the rain like everyone but I appreciate what we have.

I am down south so that could make a difference Wink

Odiepants · 27/10/2018 13:19

I'm looking forward to it being light in the morning again when I wake up even if it's only for a couple of weeks.

Whatever time the clocks are set at, there is only a limited amount of daylight by December so it doesn't make a huge difference an hour either way. I love the lighter evenings by March but also love the cosiness of Christmas and the cold and dark.

Whyiseveryonesoangry · 27/10/2018 13:30

I hate it.
Drive to work in the dark, drive home in the dark
Then have to go and sort the horses out. Poo picking in the fields by head torch isn’t much fun!

Upsy1981 · 27/10/2018 13:55

Love, love, love it. Best time of year! Halloween, fireworks, birthdays, Christmas, good stuff on the telly, candles and blankets.

MrsJBaptiste · 27/10/2018 14:21

I love, love, love summer and this summer was perfect for me! Smile

However I love it when it's dark in the mornings, dark by 4pm and we can get the wood burner on and not leave the house in the evenings. This is great in late Nov/Dec when things are getting Christmassy but for the next couple of weeks and in Jan/Feb it's not as nice, just feels a bit in between the seasons.

Sallystyle · 27/10/2018 14:26

I hate it with a passion.

AamdC · 27/10/2018 14:29

Yep dshas aurism and Learning disabilities it messes up his sleep patterrn every time the clocks go forward or backward .

Kemer2018 · 27/10/2018 14:30

I've been cycling to work since May. It's been good. I'm dreading the darker, foggiest mornings. Plus the cold. Plus rain. Urgh.

The only blessing is i finish at 1300 or 1500 so at least I'll cycle home in daylight.

My child walks to school at 0800 and i hope it's light. It's a worry, more so when her mates Mum says she won't allow her child to walk in the dark. Sad

Sallystyle · 27/10/2018 14:31

You can always warm up but in summer there's only so much you can do to cool down

In winter I get so cold that I can't always warm up. At home it isn't so bad but putting another jumper on does not make me warm up quickly and then I am still cold when I move and my hands and face are cold. At work I am in and out all the time, so I spend most of my shift freezing.

I am stupidly cold blooded though with an under active thyroid.

GetYourRocksOff · 27/10/2018 14:34

These past couple have weeks I have found it really tough in the mornings as its still dark. I'm in central Scotland. I don't think people further south really understand how much the shift is needed here. It would still be dark at 9am without it.

FredMerc · 27/10/2018 14:34

I hate not knowing what clock/ watch/ device has changed time or not constantly for the entire day I'm confused! Easier now smartphones auto change but watch, cooker, wall clocks, car clock, microwave, heating timer, outside lights timer don't. Confused

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 27/10/2018 14:48

Love being cosied up in winter. It depends on your lifestyle I guess. When I was a shift worker and having to do Tesco after a long afternoon shift, in the dark, I hated it. Now, I work fruhome so I adapt my day to the light/weather conditions.

I used to hate having to add an hour on to night shifts if I was working. And, as I remember, we didn’t get paid extra!

April241 · 27/10/2018 14:54

I love the clocks going back! Autumn is my favourite season (before it became so popular to like Autumn Grin) as my birthday is in October, I love Halloween and Guy Fawkes.

However I don’t live the actual clocks going back this year as I’m working nightshift so that’s an extra unpaid hour, bleurgh! Worked it last year too and it’s soul destroying going round and putting all the clocks back.

brizzledrizzle · 27/10/2018 14:56

Not really, it's now less than 8 weeks until it gets lighter at night so I hold on to that thought. I don't like the dark evenings but it doesn't last for ever thank goodness.

RomanyRoots · 27/10/2018 14:57

I prefer lighter evenings as don't get up much before 9.30am, so it's always dark.
I might invest in a heat lamp this year, they help with depression and anxiety.

80sMum · 27/10/2018 14:58

If I had my way, England would be on BST from November to the end of March, then BST+1 from April through October. Scotland is another matter, of course. I don't see why it couldn't be different from England.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/10/2018 15:04

Mixed bag thenGrin
I find the time change, dark evenings etc affect my mood more each year
Bothered me less in the past
Think working somewhere where there are no windows so opportunities to get some daylight has contributed to me hating it more

OP posts:
HotInWinter · 27/10/2018 15:12

Hate it.
Means an extra hours time difference between me and the UK, which further limits time to Skype my parents, and you lot rare quiet when I get up in the mornings, and all the exciting arguments on here and Facebook disappear while I'm sleeping.

BabbysYed · 27/10/2018 15:15

Don’t mind the dark mornings so much, as you now it’ll get light, but the evenings I really don’t like. Hate driving in the dark at rush hour. Feels like the night goes on forever. It’s freezing here today in Yorkshire

BaldricksCoffee · 27/10/2018 15:17

Every year I am amazed that so many people think that the clocks changing means that we get an hour's less daylight.
