Anyone else dread the clocks going back

I hate the long dark nights
Go in to work in the dark
Come home in the dark
I find myself getting quite anxious and low as the weeks go on
Try and embrace the cosy element but I miss daylight
I am the grinch I know Grin

Absolutely adore it, the darker and cosier the better. Only sad thing is that after 21st December, it starts getting lighter again, doesn't feel like it should as it's still winter!

I am not a fan of the actual night the clocks go back though, as I often am working night shifts that night (luckily not tonight), which are already long enough without the extra hour.

I hate autumn and winter and dread the clocks going back. I am always cold, even at home with heating on. Can not understand how anyone likes it.

Complete opposite for me, can't fathom how people like the glaring sun and sticky heat in the summer, but I understand I'm in the minority with that. I guess that's a small part of what makes us all individuals!

nowifi · 27/10/2018 22:02

I used to love the 'extra hour' in bed but now I have a toddler I feel robbed!

RaisinRainbow · 27/10/2018 22:50

Right now I'm excited by the cosiness and the excuse/opportunity to spend long evenings on the sofa, with blanket, candle burning and cat!

Trying to hold at bay the recognition that once winter is here it is a long slong til spring. Nov- April its pretty grim from that point of view.

But today it feels ok.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/10/2018 22:54

I hate it but I've started to reframe as a summer count down which helps.

Livpool · 27/10/2018 22:58

I hate it. I definitely experience SAD and the (seemingly) continuous darkness gets me down

Hogtini · 27/10/2018 23:03

I hate it. Will miss evening walks with the dog. Of course we'll still go out but it's not the same..

Upsy1981 · 27/10/2018 23:34

I have a theory which works with the (very small) sample of my family, that it depends when your birthday is what season you prefer e.g. I am December and I love winter. I'm sure it wouldn't play out on a larger scale but its interesting in the context of my family.

PriscillaLydiaSellon · 27/10/2018 23:44

Perhaps it wouldn't play out on a larger scale, @Upsy1981, but all my DC and I have summer holiday birthdays, and I can't begin to describe how much I detest winter. I just want someone to make it all go away, so I can wake up in April.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/10/2018 23:47

I love cosy knitwear, and being at home, and Christmas, but I hate never seeing daylight. I’m in NE Scotland and it feels like it never gets properly light.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/10/2018 23:51

If we didn't have long dark evenings in winter, we wouldn't have lovely long light evenings in summer.
Swings and roundabouts.
Plus we get an extra hour in bed when the clocks change on Sunday. (OK, not if you have babies/young children - just wait till they're bigger and you have to drag them out of bed.)

PippaRabbit · 27/10/2018 23:58

I hate winter and the long dark evenings. I much prefer summer with lighter nights even if it rains as it does in Scotland

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 28/10/2018 00:01

Makes no odds.Sun has zero warmth at any time now until March.
The days all feel short whatever time the clocks say.
Mornings are cold even if the suns out. Nights are cold and even today which was sunny the day was obviously coming to an end by 4.30.
Absolutely hate it.
Good luck to those of you that think cracked lips, too many layers of clothes and cold feet are " cosy".

BaldricksCoffee · 28/10/2018 00:02

In midwinter I drive to and from work in the dark, and would still do so even if the clocks were kep at BST. There are only so many daylight hours in the day. Changing the clocks doesn't affect that.

In the middle of winter we have about 8 hours of daylight. So it makes sense to me that half are before midday and half after. That's what GMT is and we can't get the planet to change its orbit to give us more daylight.

LoniceraJaponica · 28/10/2018 00:11

Upsy my birthday is in November, and I hate winter.

Hmm
Graphista · 28/10/2018 00:46

I notice nobody has answered my question btw! Grin

I also have family/friends round the world and like to try and keep track of what time it is where they are for various reasons. That's hard with all the different time changes too.

Some countries or parts of countries do it, some don't, they don't all do it the same dates... Bloody confusing!

If it's for lighter mornings for farmers etc can we not just stay on "winter time"? Please?

HighlandGimmer · 28/10/2018 00:49

Set alarm for the actual time you want and it will go off as your phone will auto change the time at 2!

Vintagevixen · 28/10/2018 00:53

Sorry but I love winter and the clocks going back! I suffered through the awful heat this summer this year, it really affected my health. We are all different. I had to put up with summer, now it's others turn to put up with winter.

Amaaboutthis · 28/10/2018 00:53

I can’t put into words how much I hate it. I simply cannot bear it being dark at 4pm. This summer has been so wonderful, literally good weather from May until the end of October.

Graphista · 28/10/2018 01:18

Thanks Highland hope you're right!

Slappinthebass · 28/10/2018 01:23

I absolutely hate it. Gives me anxiety about impending winter. I find the dark claustrophobic and socially limiting.

user764329056 · 28/10/2018 01:30

Hate it, feel like we’re going into a dark tunnel for months, it’s like living underground

mummyoftwounder2s · 28/10/2018 01:45

Yes yes and yes. I think every parent will agree

Kaybush · 28/10/2018 01:50

I actually love that it heralds a proper change of season.

I'm in the South and since September we've had so many lovely warm days, but it's been a bit disorientating towards the end of October.

It's been so much colder in the last couple of days though and the clocks going back has made me look forward to Halloween and Guy Fawkes, after which the whole Christmas period seems to kick in.
