Eugenie's Wedding Dress Thread - a small thread for the tiny minority of us who are interested.

Can this please be a pleasant thread? If you don't give a toss then please move on. I'm interested to see what sort of dress she wears. I'd love to see her in something that really reflects her character & I'm hoping for something with a bit of detail & not too plain.

I don't think anyone's dissing Louise; most people have said she seems lovely. It's the choice of clothes for official engagements, which she might not have much say in, which is being discussed.

mathanxiety · 15/10/2018 01:48

Yes, I think people are questioning the choices made for her by other people, and it's not necessarily a case of royal tradition - William and Harry wore perfectly age appropriate teen garb, as did Beatrice and Eugenie as young teens.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/10/2018 02:30

Tubby is most the time it's equivalent to Sunday best as its official functions. So sensible coat and tights with a sensible length frock underneath. Nothing too tight, nothing too short, nothing too informal.

They're odorless of her in skinny jeans and jackets which I imagine if much more her choice when she's not on display.

Charlotte will inevitably follow once she's too old for little dresses and ankle socks

I think dissing Louise is bang out of order, she is a child for gods sake

I think you need to read the comments again.

theboxofdelights · 15/10/2018 06:36

I have read the comments. I don’t see the need for negativity and I say this as the parent to a twelve year old who sometimes chooses clothes I don’t particularly approve of.

How do you know that Louise didn’t insist on choosing her own dress?

mathanxiety · 15/10/2018 07:05

We don't know that, but we assume that parents of a child in the public eye, in a family where a certain level of decorum in personal appearance is required, would have more inclination to have an influence on the clothing of a 14 year old than the average family.

Belindabauer · 15/10/2018 07:21

There are certain rules they will adhere to.
They are not going to rock up in a scarlet figure high dress slit up to the thigh are they?
Whilst I don't wear a uniform, I have to adhere to a dress code for work. I have a list of approved clothing and a list of things which I cannot wear. Giancarlo forbidden from wearing too much jewellery for example.
I thought all the guests looked great and so too did the bride and groom.

SheStoopsToConker · 15/10/2018 07:29

The tights with flats and old-fashioned coats with Peter Pan collars etc at formal engagements does seem to be a peculiarly British thing. Just look back on what British royal kids have always worn - there's little difference between what Charles wore in the 1950s and what George wears today!

Ingrid of Norway and Leonor of Spain are of a similar age to Louise but the European royals seem much more relaxed and modern when it comes to dressing their kids.

theboxofdelights · 15/10/2018 07:37

Why does Lady Louise Windsor always dress like the queen mum?

As I said, negative and unnecessary.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/10/2018 13:31

How do you know that Louise didn’t insist on choosing her own dress?
I don't know how many parents of 14 yo would not hold a final veto over the outfit worn to Christmas Church with all the family, let alone with all the press. There's no way she's rocking up in her onsie or her ripped jeans and trainers. But yes, the obsession with timelessness was the reason given for Charlotte's dresses and shoes and I assume it applies for the others too - that the photos are dated by their fashion.

Zara is my age so can't really remember what she wore at that age, its different for boys and I probably didn't pay much attention to Bea and Eugenie although they are of course roungly criticised for their choices.

WindyWednesday · 15/10/2018 13:33

She had little heels on and a nice dress, similar to Beatrice. Same fabric and colour.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/10/2018 13:40

Yes tbf Windy she clearly had on the dress Eugenie picked for the wedding. Not sure why her and James weren't in the official photos!

WindyWednesday · 15/10/2018 14:01

It was a bit confusing because Beatrice was MOH, but we didn’t see any of those duties.

I’m sure the BBC would have covered it better than ITV. They irritated me with “look it’s queenie!”

WindyWednesday · 15/10/2018 14:01

James was an usher, but I get the impression he finds public occasions difficult.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/10/2018 14:10

Yeah he's apparently very shy, so lovely thry included him in a way he could manage, he's a bit old to be a page boy anyway. But as special attendants I'm wedding gear you'd think they'd be on the photon. He might not like the public but it was the typical staged photos in one of the rooms in Granny's house

MissLingoss · 15/10/2018 17:10

But as special attendants I'm wedding gear you'd think they'd be on the photos

I expect there were a lot of other photos taken with different groupings of people that haven't been released to the press. Like you might choose to put a couple of photos of a special occasion publicly on social media, but keep the rest to show close friends and family only.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/10/2018 19:35

Yes I'm aware of the concept of a wedding album but don't you think as part of the official wedding party ie special attendants it would have been nice to be in 1 official photo? Anyway not my wedding or kids so I'm not Partick bothered lol just think it's odd

MorningsEleven · 16/10/2018 12:18

I'm not Partick bothered

Are you Motherwell or Cowdenbeath bothered though? 😉

SleepingStandingUp · 16/10/2018 12:38
