Eugenie's Wedding Dress Thread - a small thread for the tiny minority of us who are interested.

Can this please be a pleasant thread? If you don't give a toss then please move on. I'm interested to see what sort of dress she wears. I'd love to see her in something that really reflects her character & I'm hoping for something with a bit of detail & not too plain.

Poor Louise gets shoved into some very matronly outfits. Recently I saw a photo of her wearing a dress that looked like something the Queen Mum might've donned!

itswinetime · 13/10/2018 19:44

I wonder with Lady Louise if it's done on purpose a bit like Kate always dresses the kids a certain way in public so as they are less obvious in private. Maybe the same is true with lady Louise?? Dress her matronly and formal then when she being 'normal' she isn't as obvious! Can't think what else it is as I always think Sophie has a pretty good sense of style overall.

I think day 2 was festival themed but yeah some interesting choices!

MinecraftHolmes · 13/10/2018 19:47

itswinetime I could see that being a motive. I think they'd also be keen to avoid media scrutiny of her as she goes through puberty/grows up.

Yes, it actually is a circus theme Queen Grin - or a funfair or something along those lines.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/10/2018 20:01

I thought the theme was Festival. Demi Moore’s outfit: words fail me.
Lila Grace will have the run of Kate’s wardrobe. I’m sure I’ve seen that shaggy black jacket on Kate before.
Lady Louise’s clothes are awful all the time. She looks like she is wearing a convent school uniform.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/10/2018 20:07

I guess Louise is due a Butterfly like transformation in a few years. I guess her parents are just trying to keep her childhood for as long as possible, which is no bad thing. I guess the make up, clothes, blow drys are yet to come. She does seem like a lovely young girl.

Thesearmsofmine · 13/10/2018 20:19

Lila Moss is stunning (no surprise!).

I hope Louise dresses in her own way in private.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/10/2018 20:22

There are ways you can dress a teen that don't involve them looking middle-aged - look at the two Spanish princesses. They are always dressed age-appropriately but still youthfully. Maybe Sophie should ask Letizia where she buys their clothes!

itswinetime · 13/10/2018 20:27

There are indeed Queen unless the point is to make her look middle-aged so that when she dresses normally she is less recognisable. It seems to be something the royal family do here to help escape the press.

WindyWednesday · 13/10/2018 20:35

I’d imagine in jeans and a hoodie we wouldn’t recognise her.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/10/2018 20:38

It seems to be something the Brits do - Beatrice and Eugenie were dressed like little old women at that age too!

itswinetime · 13/10/2018 20:42

They were and bless them it took them a long time to shake that image too. Even yesterday Beatrice's dress was very odd when you compare it to Pippa Middletons say although I get that was the other extreme. Even Kate some of her outfits are way more middle aged than I would expect! I hope Meghan doesn't start to follow suit!

Mrsmadevans · 13/10/2018 21:01

Thank you for the links to the pics, l have been searching for Sarah Chatto for ages and l loved her outfit she reminds me of Audrey Hepburn, the epitome of style & elegance.
I wonder if the children of Prince Edward & Sophie feel a little awkward in public ? The little boy walked around the whole time with his hands clasped in front of him like a footballer does for a free kick. The Lady Louise is always dressed inappropriately imho , poor girl looks like Cinderella. Such a shame they could have dressed her so prettily too, l don't know why they didn't put her in an appropriate matching dress to the younger ones she would look lovely l am sure. Even her lingerie seemed inadequate , no petticoat or lining to the dress , absolutely awful for the poor child. Of course l am probably being old fashioned Hmm

QueenDoria · 13/10/2018 22:13

I think Lady Louise has some eye sight difficulties. She was born very dramatically and wasn't well as a baby. She seems very sweet and she and the queen seem to have a special relationship.

Whisky2014 · 13/10/2018 22:36

Where do the guests stay and when did they all go off to get changed? Do they leave venue then nip back to hotel change and come back?

MissLingoss · 13/10/2018 22:47

There are pics online of Lady Louise taking part in carriage driving events (which is one of Philip's great interests, which he took up when he couldn't play polo any more.) She looks fab in those outfits, and very happy.

I agree with pp that she does seem to be a lovely young girl.

IdaBWells · 13/10/2018 23:05

I do wonder at the outfits Louise is put in. Her mum dresses well so I’m not sure what the excuse is.... there could be some protocol requirements we might be unaware of. For example apparently it is traditional for the princes to be in shorts until a certain age and that’s why George is in those very twee traditional outfits with shorts. I can understand that they want to have Louise in a modest outfit for her own protection because she will be photographed from every direction. The royal family’s idea of “modest” can be incredibly aging and frumpy though so as mentioned up thread they may want to take some ideas from the Spanish and Northern European monarchies.

The good news is the only way is up! When you’re known for absolutely no talent sartorially speaking then it doesn’t take much to dazzle as you get older. Louise looks like she is tall like her mum and quite willowy, in six years she could be potentially transformed.

Also it seems to be focusing our minds on her character and talents rather than appearance, so there’s that!

AngeloMysterioso · 14/10/2018 00:05

The RF have released a few of the official portraits on their Instagram...

They only went and put Fergie next to Prince Philip Grin

Someone's clearly taught Charlotte how to pose for pictures

I like this dress but it's doing odd things to her boobs...

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 14/10/2018 00:22

That dress is exquisite. I bet it's only the camera doing that (unfortunate!).
It probably looks fine irl.

Poor Mia looks overwhelmed in all the pics I've seen. Maybe more will come to light where she's carefree - she's usually a rascal in non-formal environments Grin

florenceheadache · 14/10/2018 01:03

i love the photo's agree with your comments angelo :)

PollyFlinderz · 14/10/2018 04:17

From the get go Mia looked as if she’d rather be somewhere else on the day. 😂

She’s a smashing wee girl.

mathanxiety · 14/10/2018 04:35

I don't know about that last bit, IdaBWells - there seems to be an awful lot of focus on her appearance, in a 'what was that?' kind of way...

Paradyning · 14/10/2018 07:40

Love the way Mia's sat legs splayed eating an apple. Hilarious

MaybeDoctor · 14/10/2018 08:33

The Royal ladies do seem to regularly make the mistake of wearing a flared above-the-knee skirt in a light fabric. As we all know, the slightest gust of wind and it is showing all ya got! But this has happened to some of the most senior Royals so Lady Louise should have nothing to feel embarrassed about. I hope she felt better and enjoyed the rest of her day.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/10/2018 08:40

Yes even Kate’s skirt flew up when they were waving off the bride & groom.
However it did look exceptionally windy that day.
Good call for Eugenie not wearing a veil
