Please can you help my DD?

I have name changed because I might show DD this thread.

DD is 10. Since she was a baby she has had a much loved teddy. Currently she sleeps with it and will cuddle it if she is upset. It stays in her bedroom.

Recently she has become convinced that she should not have teddy any more. She thinks others would say it is babyish to still have a teddy.

What do you think? Is it OK for a 10 year old to have a teddy at night? What age should she give it up?

Tell her I've still got my Teddy.

I'm 58.

NeedAUsernameGenerator · 03/10/2018 19:40

I gave mine up at about 24 if that helps...

Cantagreewithexever · 03/10/2018 19:41

Awww! My 10 year old is very mature and sensible and she has two beloved teddy’s she sleeps with every night. She took them on school camping trips and nobody batted an eyelid.

definitely not babyish. my DD is 12 and still sleeps with teddy tucked in beside her. as do many of her friends

WisestIsShe · 03/10/2018 19:41

Agree with pp. I'm 38 and still sleep with Bear. She's always there if I'm having a good day or a bad day. She's the best.
I've even seen DH cuddling her if he thinks I'm not looking!

GrumpyOlderBloke · 03/10/2018 19:42

All three of my sons took the teddies to university.

They were not alone.

Apparently it was a 'thing' a decade ago.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 03/10/2018 19:42

I'm 50.

I don't have a teddy, but I do have a rabbit which I've had since he was bigger than me.

He looks after my chest of drawers.

EastMidsGPs · 03/10/2018 19:42

I am in my 60s and still have my Caleb. He sits near the bed. He is a very good listener.

Rednaxela · 03/10/2018 19:42

They might say that. Who cares what other people say. It is none of their business anyway!

DD has at least another happy 20 years ahead with teddy. I had teddy in with me until marrying DH at 30! He went on my car dashboard everywhere I went too.

ETgo · 03/10/2018 19:43

My youngest son aged 14 unashamedly takes a cuddly whenever he goes to sleep somewhere else 🙂

Observatorycrest · 03/10/2018 19:43

MY DD is 14and her beloved pooh bear still has his spot in her bed along with Trevor her bear she got when she was born.

Munchmallow · 03/10/2018 19:43

My DD still sleeps with her teddy. She's in her thirties.

You're never too old! Bear

fruitshot · 03/10/2018 19:44

Tell your DD that what ever makes her feel happy is totally ok.
She doesn't have to tell anyone if she does feel embarrassed at all, but she shouldn't. There will be plenty of kids in her class that still have something to keep them company at night time.

My 10 year old still has his stuffed giraffe watching him on his bedside table 😊

Harleypuppy · 03/10/2018 19:44

I had to give mine up four years ago as he started getting too fragile. But I have replaced him with a different one, called Bear. I'm 45.

aidelmaidel · 03/10/2018 19:44

I still sleep with my teddy and I'm 38

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/10/2018 19:44

My very mature and sensible DD15 cuddles Pooh bear in bed every night. He’s a little threadbare now (or maybe a little thread bear Grin)

PatriciaHolm · 03/10/2018 19:44

My 12 and 14 year olds have beds covered in soft toys!

DonnaDarko · 03/10/2018 19:44

My university flatmate gave me a teddy bear for my birthday once :D I loved that teddy, had it for 10 years before I passed it onto DS

mineofuselessinformation · 03/10/2018 19:45

Old Ted is on the foot of my bed as we speak. I'm a lot older than dd!
My dc1 still has their much-loved dog and was heartbroken when they thought they'd lost it, they're in their twenties.....

Iwantplaits · 03/10/2018 19:46

My DS sneaks his cuddly toy into his sleeping bag on scout camps. He is 13 and still has his cuddly in bed. Some people whatever their age adore their cuddly toy

laceygo · 03/10/2018 19:46

My DD 17 still has her blanky from when she was a baby, and still can't/won't sleep without it ... there's nothing babyish about keeping something close to you that you love, it's absolutely fine Smile

LemonysSnicket · 03/10/2018 19:46

I still have my teddy and I'm 23. It lives on mine and DPs bed

WrongKindOfFace · 03/10/2018 19:46

I still have mine! In fact everyone in this house still has a teddy.

Fraula · 03/10/2018 19:47

My twins are 11 and think it's perfectly fine. Some of their friends brought teddies on the year 5 residential trip too.

GeeLondon · 03/10/2018 19:48

I still have three small blankies I sleep with 😂 sometimes find my partner asleep clutching them too now 😂
