Palm Oil - what has it ruined for you?

Quite apart from lovely Cadbury chocolate, and creme eggs, which I've not purchased for the last 3 years, what else has palm oil ruined for you?

It's even in the kids birds eye chicken dippers, so that's them off the shopping list too.

Disgusting tasting, rainforest ruining stuff.

Everything! It's so hard to find certain products without palm oil in -chocolate, biscuits, ice cream etc.

It's really frustrating that it seems to be in everything now.

BringMeTea · 02/10/2018 22:12

Loads. So very depressing.

ipswichwitch · 02/10/2018 22:19

Peanut butter 😡

MoonlightandMusic · 02/10/2018 22:21

Treat food, most nice soap and my favourite hair cream Sad.

On the plus side, cutting down the amount of biscuit & chocolate eating is a good thing!

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 02/10/2018 22:22

Almost all mass produced foods and keeping myself and almost everything I own clean.

Eeeeek2 · 02/10/2018 22:22

Cadbury fruit and nut, but on the positive side it's saved me thousands of calories

MoonlightandMusic · 02/10/2018 22:22

ipswich - Meridian don't use palm oil in their products, and their peanut butter's now easy to get hold of.

Longdistance · 02/10/2018 22:23

Gravy.

I now make my own.

Meet0nTheIedge · 02/10/2018 22:24

Peanut butter, I don't like Meridian.

postitnot · 02/10/2018 22:26

lemon curd!

Cantagreewithexever · 02/10/2018 22:28

Dairy free butter :(

wombatsears · 02/10/2018 22:28

Also cat food! Impossible to feed my pets without buying palm oil products.

UnderHerEye · 02/10/2018 22:30

Chocolate, biscuits, pies, crackers-

All the nice things !!

BUT it does force me to not be so lazy about cooking! I only work part time so am lucky enough to be able to make most meals from scratch and do biscuit/cake/treat baking as well.

For fellow chocoholics - Sainsbury’s own brand chocolate blocks don’t have palm oil in.

DollyDayScream · 02/10/2018 22:32

The habitats of orangutans. Angry

BlueEyedPersephone · 02/10/2018 22:35

Is there any gravy which it is not in?
I went to Borneo in 2009, having seen the destruction first hand and I can't believe more people don't avoid buying it

pumkinspicetime · 02/10/2018 22:36

I was really shocked when I went to Costa Rica, lush jungle filled with life, plantations of palm oil, absolutely nothing living in there. But they are a fantastic source of income for poor farmers who can't live on thing air. So how do we support alternative income streams for them?

ShovingLeopard · 02/10/2018 22:38

Sainsbo's chocolate is extremely good for the price, too.

kayakingmum · 02/10/2018 22:43

Ipswichwitch I recommend wholeearth peanut butter. It's really good.

It is so hard to avoid palm oil, but I do try. Very hard to avoid it in biscuits - I buy mcvities rich tea biscuits mainly because I know they aren't made from palm oil. It's put me off other biscuits.

user1483390742 · 02/10/2018 22:45

Whole Earth peanut butter doesn't contain palm oil.

BlueEyedPersephone · 02/10/2018 22:47

www.ethicalconsumer.org/palm-oil-free-list. Is quite useful

DinosApple · 02/10/2018 22:51

Does palm oil get listed as anything else in ingredients lists?

Trying to persuade myself I don't need a pre bed snack.

ToadOfSadness · 02/10/2018 23:03

If you don't like Meridian try Pip n Nut, so far it has been palm oil free.

What it has ruined for me is almost everything I liked. Chocolate, crackers, biscuits, many vegetarian ready made foods including Cauldron, pastry, have to search to find pastry made with butter. Lemon curd, I miss lemon curd. Even bread has palm oil in now. Ice cream, some drinking chocolates. Oreos, Jaffa Cakes, packaged cakes which also means coffee shop cakes as they are pre-made.

I put so many items back in the shops now after reading the labels that I mainly exist on vegetables and salads and whatever crackers I can find without palm oil which is usually Matzos or charcoal crackers.

ToadOfSadness · 02/10/2018 23:08

Chips, chip shops seem to use that nasty gloop rather than proper oil.

Pringles, stopped buying them.

MrsAmaretto · 02/10/2018 23:09

Tonight I discovered my stock cubes have palm oil in them.

What is wrong with the food industry? They add sugar and palm oil to everything then wrap it in plastic.
