I know I sound absolutely unreasonable, stick with me here

I'm in an amazing hotel..but I just do not like Playas de las Americas

At Sunprime Ocean View

I've my Kindle. My friend is here with me. I miss DP and DS but that's fine

The nightlife doesn't seem to be up to much. Veronica's Strip wasn't particularly impressive maybe I'm getting old at 28

What can we do? Siam Park is booked for tomorrow. Loro Park on Wednesday

What would you do today? What is Los Cristianos like?

I've spent years holidaying in Marmaris. I think Turkey has ruined Spain for me Sad

This place is just like one street

great big volcano? amazing coastal walks ( not hard). barranco de masca?

viques · 30/09/2018 09:42

Well on the bright side by not visiting Turkey you are not propping up a despot who oppresses women and ethnic minorities , has a history of disregard for the rule of law, imposes religious intolerance on his country and tries to hold Europe to ransom over refugees while banging on the door wanting to be a member of the European club to finance his failing economy.

Burlea · 30/09/2018 09:42

Try the bars behind the hotel vulcano these are better than veronicas. Walk along the front towards Costa adjeca or Los christianos. Markets are held on Thursday for CA or Sunday for LC.
People watch on the main streets by the shopping centre. Water park if you like. Volcano in the middle of the island.
Can't remember what day or time but you can get a bus to the north side of the island.

Boat trips. Whale watching.

If you look beyond the basics you could find plenty to do.

TheThirdOfHerName · 30/09/2018 09:43

Day trip to La Gomera.

kawla · 30/09/2018 09:46

Only on MN the OP talks about her holiday and the first post is politics.

FYI, in every country we go to, including here in the UK, there will be something about how that government operates. So let holidays be about holidays.

BabyGoatsInPyjamas · 30/09/2018 10:28

Thanks everyone

Politics aside - Turkey is a lovely country and I've enjoyed every single trip I've had

My hotel is stuffed with older people, there's no music beside the pool..

I thought there'd be a bit more going on in Tenerife, everyone I know absolutely raves about it and I'm just like Hmm

Even my friend is worried

Momotheathlete · 30/09/2018 10:29

The water park is the best water park I've ever been to. You'll love it.

Longdistance · 30/09/2018 10:31

Go hire a car and discover the island?

I do this on every holiday, it’s the only way to disciver the island.

EleanorLavish · 30/09/2018 10:33

Music by the pool side would make me want to go home! I’m now looking into your hotel for next year!Grin

Madbengalmum · 30/09/2018 10:34

Much prefer Tenerife to Turkey, but it sounds like you are unfortunately in the wrong resort. I too would prefer turkey to las americas!
Siam mall?
Walks from americas to adeje?
Mount teide?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/09/2018 10:38

What to do on Tenerife, home to a UNESCO world heritage site? Presumably you’ve been to the Teide National Park? My friends go to Tenerife every year and rave about the walking there. There are also whale-watching trips; the village of Masca sounds fascinating; the botanical gardens...

I suppose it depends: do you actually want to see Tenerife?

Starisnotanumber · 30/09/2018 10:40

Avoid vernoicas . Go to area near Hard rock cafe which is near Magic fountains there are a number of bars there which are more suited to people who aren't early 20s drunks.
Recommended are magic bar which is next to hardrock Harry's bar which is over magic fountains at back.
If you don't know where these are or can't walk a taxi from anywhere in PDLA is less than 5 euro. Also nice places to eat in there it's called the safari centre.

Elephantinacravat · 30/09/2018 10:43

I've been to Marmaris and Las Americas, o wouldn't say there is much in it tbh, they are quite similar as holiday destinations? Struggling to see how Marmaris is so superior.

Costacoffeeplease · 30/09/2018 10:43

Music by the pool? What fresh hell is this?

JustBeingJobless · 30/09/2018 10:58

I hated Tenerife too, for all the reasons you said. It felt like we were just on a long street with a motorway each end, and once you’d seen that, there was nothing left. We went on a few day trips, but were actually happy to come home! I’ve been to Majorca a few times and loved it, but Tenerife bored me.

Starisnotanumber · 30/09/2018 10:58

DP have apartment in PDLA so spent months over the past few years there. Tell me what you would be doing in marmaris and I can try to help with similar things.
Can also help with eating places etc that aren't all you can eat for 10 euro but have decent food etc

Furrycushion · 30/09/2018 11:01

It's bound to be more elderly people at this time of year, I would have thought. Hire a car is a great suggestion.

amusedbush · 30/09/2018 11:05

Music by the pool?? I’d throttle someone if I had to listen to music at the pool!

userxx · 30/09/2018 11:09

Avoid Loro parque. The cruelty endured by the animals is heartbreaking.

BabyGoatsInPyjamas · 30/09/2018 11:11

Well I like music beside the pool Blush

I like lively

Not trance music but flip me, something would be nice

All I can hear is the kitchen staff rattling about

Food is a bit grim

Anyway - in Marmaris we go on jeep safari, the hotels we stay in have a bit of life about them, the promenade walk from the Old Town/harbour right down into Marmaris is lovely. It's just got more of a summer vibe about it

I don't mean to be ungrateful or anything, very lucky to be away but we are currently sitting here looking at each other a wee bit bored

Siam Park is good fun, if you can get there before you go. Whilst Loro Park is owned by the same group (I think?) I’d avoid that as I just don’t agree with this animals being in captivity.

We were in Los cristianos a few years ago a similar time of year and did a small whale shark watching boat trip (just a handful of people on the boat). It wasn’t that expensive and it was fantastic.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/09/2018 11:13

Music by the pool drives me insane. Think you needed a club 18-30!

Blankspace4 · 30/09/2018 11:14

I’ve also heard Teide is well worth a visit. If you don’t want to rent a car there are plenty of tours places down by the sea front who can organise transport.

BabyGoatsInPyjamas · 30/09/2018 11:17

Full disclosure:

Friend and her fella were supposed to be on this trip. They split up and brought me

So I should fuck up because it's a free holiday and I sound like a cow

I feel very young here. People seem nice but cutlery rattling is getting on my tits
