I know I sound absolutely unreasonable, stick with me here

I'm in an amazing hotel..but I just do not like Playas de las Americas

At Sunprime Ocean View

I've my Kindle. My friend is here with me. I miss DP and DS but that's fine

The nightlife doesn't seem to be up to much. Veronica's Strip wasn't particularly impressive maybe I'm getting old at 28

What can we do? Siam Park is booked for tomorrow. Loro Park on Wednesday

What would you do today? What is Los Cristianos like?

I've spent years holidaying in Marmaris. I think Turkey has ruined Spain for me Sad

This place is just like one street

Absolutely loads to do!

I agree about Veronica's it's the 18-30's scene type place like all the major resorts it's the strip where everyone goes for a piss up!

Just above peurto colon is (was!) lots of Irish bars and they are nice. Puerto colon is lovely for a walk and lunch and loads of boat trips go from there.

A trip up Teide is well worth it - an island tour by jeep is fab and will take you around all the volcanic sights.

Or catch a bus to los gigantes and take a boat trip from there.

Perhaps head towards las galletas and el medano (windy there!) and watch the kite surfers and have a nice fish lunch and/tapas. These resorts have become more touristy but still maintained more of a traditional Canarian feel.

If you like shopping between Los Cris and las americas is a nice shopping strip (where all 5* hotels are. Cannot remember name of it.

Heading the other way towards playa la arena that's a quieter resort and has the natural volcanic beaches (black sand). Tenerife doesn't (or didn't when I lived there) have a lot of the touristy stuff on the beach but there's some lovely beaches to travel to.

There's also lots of water sports along the beaches of this appeals to you?

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/09/2018 11:25

Idk about pdla as I’ve not been there for years. But in Costa Adeje you can go on boat trips. Must be the same in playa.

Have a look at this for ideas. uk.viator.com/Canary-Islands-tours/Day-Trips-and-Excursions/d231-g5

starzig · 30/09/2018 11:32

Jet bikes. Go play in the ocean. Take a boat trip. Go to the monkey bar and drink cocktails on the beach.

ManicUnicorn · 30/09/2018 11:34

Adeje is much nicer than Playas IMO. Sorry, I know that's not much help OP. But something to consider if you ever go again.

The Canaries are MUCH nicer than Turkey though.

Starisnotanumber · 30/09/2018 11:35

Go out of hotel go to beach hotel a couple of loungers.Las Vistas beach has bars where you can drink/ eat.
Beach is nice and pale sand.At least you would be away from hotel.
Have you ever tried surfing or bodyboard there are beginner classes on beach something that isn't available in marmaris

Ornitorrinco · 30/09/2018 11:37

I wish I could afford a holiday to Tenerife Sad

I went a few years ago. Drove up Mount Teide and watched the sunset from above the clouds. It was beautiful. Definitely worth a visit!

RosiePosies · 30/09/2018 11:39

North Tenerife is the most amazing place I've ever been in my life, Can you hire a car?

GabsAlot · 30/09/2018 11:42

why would there be music by the pool

youve clearly booked the wrong hotel u wanna be with all the chavs raving

Branleuse · 30/09/2018 11:42

I loved tenerife. Have you done any driving about? I loved the north. Wasnt as impressed by the south as it was too Brits abroad, but the north is beautiful. Banana plantations, I loved the volcanic terrain and all the natural swimming pools it created along the coast.

Quartz2208 · 30/09/2018 11:44

Tbh you cant put on tenerife the failings of one resort - it sounds like you picked the wrong resort for your age both ways - the hotel is too old and the resort is somewhere I would have loved in my early 20s

But Siam Park is voted one of the best water parks in the WORLD (including the US) Mount Teide is an amazing volcano and costa adeje has some lovely beaches

But also you have to accept its end of season everything is running down for the off period of November to March (and that is most resorts)

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 30/09/2018 11:49

I go to Costa Adeje a lot and love it. I can’t imagine why you would want to listen to music by the pool though Confused.

Aqua land is just down the road from Siam Park and also great fun.

Loro Park has captive Orcas and you couldn’t pay me to go there. It’s also about a 2.5 hour bus journey from where you are.

What exactly is it you’re looking for? There’s beautiful beaches, an amazing national park, boat trips where you can see whales and dolphins, two brilliant water parks.

Gersemi · 30/09/2018 11:51

OP, I hope you're out exploring all the excellent suggestions on here?

whatashower · 30/09/2018 11:56

stuffed with older people
How awful for you 🙄😀

Great suggestions from other posters though. It is also worth pointing out that some holiday places just dont resonate and rock your boat as much as others do, through no explicable reason or fault of their own. Thats OK too, just don't go back there, and chalk it up to experience. At 28 you have many other holidays to look forward to.

Hope you manage to start enjoying your holiday!

GooseDownCreek · 30/09/2018 11:59

I've been to Tenerife a few times and prefer Costa Adeje to PDLA which is actually joined on in you walk far enough.
It's also true that the majority of guests outside school holidays will be older, and the older generation tend to choose hotels with food included. There are some lovely restaurants if the hotel food isn't great.
I'm with you on music, I do think it adds to the holiday feel.

Siam Parc is awesome. Get a taxi and get there for when it opens, walk right through the park (ignoring the photographers) to the wave pool / beach. Get beds there and lockers.
While you are there you can buy half price tickets for a second visit, which, if you love water parks you will want to do.
Avoid Loro park though. Exploited whales and dolphins.

Humptyfelldown · 30/09/2018 12:25

I onlycame back from Tenerife on Saturday morning (was supposed to be Friday, but plane delayed).

We were in Los Cristianos and it was lovely. The tour to Teide was interesting (but boring for younger children, as when you get to the cable car station there is little there, unless you go up in it, and it's a lot of queueing). They have the cutest of lizards though!

Day trip to La Gomera was interesting, but like Teide most of the time was spent in a coach. The whistling at the restaurant was great (all coach trips to La Gomera seem to stop at the same restaurant), but the food was vile.

The national park at La Gomera we spent only 20 minutes and to be honest, from the short time there, it wasn't that different to woods in England. There is a stone circle there called the Circle of Witches, which I found interesting.

We spent too little time in time in La Gomera's capital San Sebastian, before our ferry back, so couldn't look around it, but that depends on tour operators (we went with Atlantico).

The best trip we did by far was the Ragnarok Viking Boat tour. We did it on Friday for the three hour tour (it finished two hours before our coach transfer to the airport. It was truly amazing, and fab for kids. The 'vikings' were incredible in keeping you entertained, you get food (nice) on the boat, get to make coins, sword fight, shoot arrows, see whales, and anchor up and jump off the boat into the sea and snorkel or swim (if you want). The boat is rocky, and DD who was fine on the ferry, was sick, but still enjoyed it tremendously (our apartments were great and let DD shower in a spare room despite having checked out, and luckily I took a t-shirt for me which did her as a dress on the boat).

We went to Aqualand twice. We went to Siam waterpark last year, but it was expensive and crowded (and you can't take your own food). Whereas Aqualand was quiet, so no queues for rides, and there is a Dialprix opposite the entrance which makes cheap baguettes you can take in.

The tours for the viking boat (and Peter Pan & Travelling Lady) can be arranged from Jesus Excursions, which has a little booth by the tunnel before Los Cristianos harbour. Day trips to La Gomera are best bought by a tour operator, as the ferry tickets are more expensive if you buy them direct, and you don't have transport on the island.

Food wise - Pizzeria Europa is amazing (and I don't usually like pizza), really cheap and gorgeous freshly made, unusual toppings. Promenade bar (past the harbour) is really, really good, and amazing Canarian Potatoes.

There is a market in Los Cristianos on Sundays and Tuesdays (finishes at 2pm). It is huge, hot and busy, interesting, but be savvy for inflated prices.

Humptyfelldown · 30/09/2018 12:27

Just to add, despite going to Aqualand twice, we didn't watch the Dolphin show, so it was even quieter in the afternoon when everyone else leaves for them, and you get the pool and rides to yourself.

Glitteryfrog · 30/09/2018 12:30

Have a surf lesson. There are a couple of surf schools.
Hire bikes and cycle around (or up the volcano if you're hard-core and brought your kit)
There is a really nice japanese/sushi near Hard Rock.

notangelinajolie · 30/09/2018 12:31

Watersports?

Or gatecrash another hotel/pool that does have music? There must be some Mumsnet recommendations?

notangelinajolie · 30/09/2018 12:41

Are there any Catamaran trips? They tend to play music. We went on one in Majorca and although I'm not one for music it was ok for the day and we could escape it by sunbathing on the nets away from the speakers and going for a swim every know and again.

notangelinajolie · 30/09/2018 12:42

*now

BarbaraofSevillle · 30/09/2018 12:43

I learnt to scuba dive in Tenerife and there are turtles and massive rays in the sea that you go out in a boat to dive with. Look up a dive school for a trial dive with.

TSSDNCOP · 30/09/2018 12:52

So YOU are the one the hotel next to ours played pool music for Grin

Do you like a bit of al fresco, poolside Fireball OP?

Norugratsatall · 30/09/2018 12:59

Music by the pool - urgh.

Stayed in Athens recently, the pool music blasting from tiny speakers right by the sun beds, drove me fucking mental! If you want music, use headphones! So your hotel sounds like bliss to me.

BarbaraofSevillle · 30/09/2018 13:02

Actually I think we saw and heard the viking boat thing from our apartment balcony. Is it one of those 'party on a boat' cruise things? That sounds up your street OP.

I suppose you aren't being unreasonable if it's quiet in Las Americas. I've never been because I thought it was a party resort and I'm too old and boring for such a place but if that's what you want and it doesn't deliver, I can see how the that would be disappointing.

Aragog · 30/09/2018 13:17

If you want music, could you not invest in some headphones and download some onto your phone?

A car and explore.
