I know I sound absolutely unreasonable, stick with me here

I'm in an amazing hotel..but I just do not like Playas de las Americas

At Sunprime Ocean View

I've my Kindle. My friend is here with me. I miss DP and DS but that's fine

The nightlife doesn't seem to be up to much. Veronica's Strip wasn't particularly impressive maybe I'm getting old at 28

What can we do? Siam Park is booked for tomorrow. Loro Park on Wednesday

What would you do today? What is Los Cristianos like?

I've spent years holidaying in Marmaris. I think Turkey has ruined Spain for me Sad

This place is just like one street

Rent a car.
Explore around mount Teide
Go to Puerto and go for a swim in Lago Martianez
Go to Los Gigantes

EachandEveryone · 30/09/2018 13:20

I love Tenerife and I feel sorry for your friend if you’ve got a face like a slapped weekend. How mean if you. There is loads to do in Tenerife. Some brilliant live bands if you get yourself away from that strip.

Branleuse · 30/09/2018 13:38

I recommend Garachico as a lovely little town to visit

Dowser · 30/09/2018 13:57

I’m in Tenerife for our annual three week October stay and love it
Veronica’s is the pits

Have you been to los cris yet... lovely atmosphere over there on evenings
Go to croquant bakery for fabulous English vanilla slices, yummy cakes and bread...up past the church
I would be bored too just sat round the pool
Try the Dubliner pub. Hopefully peter still sings there each evening. He played at our beach wedding three years ago and it’s a great night
It’s near la siesta hotel
Buy s bono bus ticket from los cris bus station and explore the island
La Laguna is lovely but avoid siesta time
Monkey park on the outskirts of los cris is lovely and only ten euros to get in and ten euros in a taxi
See Charlene at excursions Jesus at the los cris tunnel for the whale and dolphin trip which is excellent
Take a bus to Puerto de la Cruz and Candelaria. Amazing
Yes to s trip up the teide 0only €19 a half day
The passarella has a lovely Lebanese restaurant which is good value
Plenty of restaurants along san telmo and I noticed a few lively bars have opened there
La caleta on the bus for fish restaurants and a bit of peace and quiet
Still maintains its old fishing port character
The Mongolian for a really nice buffet where the food is cooked in front of you Nd you choose what you wAnt
Honestly op you aren’t even trying

Then there’s buses to la oratava
Vilafilor... old tenerifian villages
Masca.. a must

troodiedoo · 30/09/2018 14:04

I feel you OP. Marmaris has ruined everywhere for me. I always pitied people who went to the same place every year until I went there.

201805spring · 30/09/2018 14:08

Another one saying please avoid Loro Parque, due to the cruelty involved in keeping the animals there. For anyone interested look up Free Morgan Foundation online. Please please don’t go, sounds like there are much more interesting options that have been suggested already.

We had a great time in Tenerife, we stayed in La Oratava, which is a very pretty historic town. We hired a car and drove to different sites and beaches in the Island. There are volcanic mountain landscapes, lava flow beaches, local wines, homemade ice cream shops. The one place we didn't go right enough was the very south of the Island because out local friend had told us that the big hotels were good for a huge buffet but there wasn't much else there. The rest of the people on our flight were older people who were all getting on coaches to go down there, It didn't look like it was going to be party central.

pumkinspicetime · 30/09/2018 14:19

We found the locals to be perfectly friendly, particulary towards DC, although we spoke basic Spanish which I think helps.

Witchofzog · 30/09/2018 14:22

I am in Marmaris right now. It is bucketing it down. Torrential rain and thunder. Same forecast for tomorrow. It looks glorious where you are weather wise op

Blankspace4 · 30/09/2018 14:45

@dowser I’m not even in Tenerife right now, but can I just say thank you for your incredibly informative post! We’ve been several times before (cheap family accommodation to a good value option for us for a #2 break of the year) and we were starting to think it we had ‘been there done that’, but your post mentions both stuff we’ve enjoyed and new ideas. Thank you and have a brilliant holiday!

OP - along the coast at The south end of los Cris there a few nicer, quieter restaurants with nice food and friendly staff (all very down to earth and good value for money too) there is also a fun mini golf which is cheap and a good laugh!!

Dowser · 30/09/2018 16:20

No problem blank space
Happy to help
It’s about our 16 or 17 th visit here in 6 years
We come theee times a year. October, December and March .. for the weather naturally, the lovely friendly people, the scenic views, the eating out... lovely selection of restaurants

We’ve just passed achemist ( farmacia) displacing the temp
31 in the shade..yes’s a bit hot but not complaining... too much
Ok ow what we’re going back too
There are a few incidents on Tenerife but really... I feel very safe walking around here

For my husband, son in law and son just before our wedding here I got them all a jet ski and paraglide for their birthday presents.. they had a marvellous time

Are you in an all inclusive op

Dowser · 30/09/2018 16:21

I think you need a mooch around los cris

SoyDora · 30/09/2018 16:27

Ive been to both Marmaris and las Americas and thought they were both the absolute pits so can’t help you much there.
Just wanted to say I hope you’re not letting your friend know (either by words or in your overall attitude) that you’re bored. Must be a tough holiday for her if she was supposed to be going with her partner.

I don't think I will return. It doesn't feel Turkish enough here if that makes sense and the food is too British in most places though we did find an amazing gem a few nights ago above the marina. I am hoping a trip to Icmelar is better for me.

EachandEveryone · 30/09/2018 19:18

I prefer Dalyan

Dowser · 30/09/2018 21:49

So, what did you do today op

BabyGoatsInPyjamas · 01/10/2018 01:28

Hello 👋🏼

We went to the strip

Veronica's

I had a McDonald's and I'm now in bed with my hair in a pineapple and a cup of coffee beside me..

It's 01:27 Grin

We are looking at flights home for Tuesday. This is a waste of my annual leave and a flight home is just £57

BabyGoatsInPyjamas · 01/10/2018 01:33

Friend is equally as bored btw

I miss wee DS

We're going to Siam Park tomorrow

I just don't understand why people rave about this. Weather wise it's fab and the hotel is nice enough

It's just not for me; I'm not running the entire island down or anything. Lots of people come here so I'm 100% on board with me being the issue

I don't think my head was ever in it tbh. Was a last minute kinda thing, rushed and now I just wanna go home Sad

OP: There's nothing to do in Tenerife, it's boring.
MN: Here are loads of great things to do in Tenerife, why not try them.
OP: We went to a nightclub that MN says is lousy and McDonald's. There's nothing to do in Tenerife, it's boring.

SoyDora · 01/10/2018 08:01

To be honest I’ve never heard anyone rave about Playa de las Americas.

Gingersstuff · 01/10/2018 08:04

Heartened to see other people asking you to avoid Loro Parque. I can't believe that people still pay to see captive orcas and dolphins in this day and age, there's no excuse for such ignorance.
But I've a feeling you'll go anyway Hmm

specialsubject · 01/10/2018 08:41

clearly not into natural wonders, views, walks, scenery, culture or beaches.

oh well, we tried. crap nightclubs and mucky d available anywhere.

TillyVonMilly · 01/10/2018 09:00

Reminds me of the film Shirley Valentine Shirley is delighted, looking at the islands beauty and the next couple are looking in horror as there’s nothing to do, no bars no discos Grin
