Weird things your body does...

So I didn’t think this was weird, but apparently it is. This morning I got out the shower, walked into the bedroom and went to put socks on. As I did so, my little toenail was loose. As in, the whole thing. So I just pulled it off. And there’s a whole new fresh one grown underneath. I’ve had no trauma on the nail, it just happens randomly and fairly regularly; about once every few months or so.

I became aware that DH was looking at me, horrified. He assured me that toenails dropping off to reveal fresh new ones underneath is absolutely not a normal thing, and recommended I sell my body to science Grin

What weird thing does your body do?

I have synesthesia too! My dh thinks I’m bonkers.

I also get “javelin arse” either before I’m due on or when I’m on or sometimes when I’m ovulating. It bloody hurts!

I have epilepsy and ever since developing at the age of 26 I get twitches, like an electric shock. It can be anywhere but mostly in my hands or face. HATE it. It looks like a spasm and feels like an electric shock. It’s incredibly painful and embarrassing.

AckYourHole · 30/09/2018 22:52

Omg @RunSweatLaughAndLatte I get that too! And it's usually either just before I go to sleep or just as I wake up. It's weird but not scary or anything. Been happening to me for years.

So good to hear someone else hears them. I tried to describe it to my sister as like ribbons of words and conversations that I'm not a part of. She thought I was off my nut Grin

Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, oh my god! I had this as a kid quite often when I was unwell and still occasionally get it... It's usually when I lie in bed with my eyes closed, suddenly I feel like my hands or feet swell up to unimaginable sizes and I have to move around and sometimes turn the lights on to see my hands/feet to get rid of the feeling, it's SO creepy... Never knew it had a name!

PointlessUsername · 30/09/2018 23:02

When using the toilet (2) sometimes my whole body feels numb and i get really weak.

BlingLoving · 30/09/2018 23:03

I get headaches when it's overcast. If it goes on for a long time, I will develop full blown sinus pain and start to feel weak.

NotDoingThat · 30/09/2018 23:05

If I hold my nose and blow, air comes out of my left eye. Nightmare when I have a cold!

TokyoSushi · 30/09/2018 23:05

I sneeze 3 times after eating a mint, always in the same way, 1 sneeze, 2 sneezes, pause, sneeze number 3

I also get the worst ever stabbing pain in my head, in various different places once every couple of weeks for about 2/3 seconds for the last 25 years or so!

Roxetta · 30/09/2018 23:06

When I'm in severe pain (like labour) my big toe on my right foot shakes uncontrollably. The midwife thought it was hilarious... I was most definitely not in the mood for having a laugh about it!!

Dragonlight · 30/09/2018 23:08

I can hear electricity. It's a constant high pitched buzz and I assumed everyone could until I mention it and get 'looks'. It makes such a difference whenever we have a power cut or I'm out in the woods, lovely silence.

Dontbestupidagain · 30/09/2018 23:09

I thought someone would have said mine by now:

  1. I'm allergic to cold. Specifically exposure to cold air/water. My skin goes very red and itchy and then thickens and goes white, particularly around my joints, so it looks like elephant skin. It is especially attractive on the beach when coming out of the sea.
  2. I shiver uncontrollaby when I'm emotionally stressed.
  3. My second toes won't straighten. I think they're called hammer toes.
IfeelFloopy · 30/09/2018 23:19

My scalp tingles when I hear loud, low sounding bass music. It happens a lot when I car passes by booming out music.

My eyes water so much that tears stream down my face when I start singing.

Brigante9 · 30/09/2018 23:21

Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, oh yes! Big time, more so when I’m tired.

I’ve found myself collapsed on the bathroom floor a few times-maybe low blood pressure? No idea how I got there.

If I concentrate on my bad leg and think about cramp, it happens. Big accident some years back, started getting deep muscle cramps ever since, absolute agony. Bit awkward when I couldn’t stand as that’s the only thing that fixes it.

theluckiest · 30/09/2018 23:26

Oh this is the thread I've been waiting for!!!

I have a nervous fanny. I never liked heights but since having DC it's got a lot worse. If I'm somewhere high, my fanny clenches and it's really rather unpleasant.

I know people say that things make their 'toes curl' well, heights make my fanny curl. It's horrid.

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 30/09/2018 23:33

I have a numb patch on my back - o can feel pressure but not pain.
Another part of my back itches if a patch on my stomach is touched... like I am badly wired - like an old fiat!

I also have 'one eye crying' . It just runs.

I have a need to poo in certain shops ( book shops, Wilkinson's, b&q)

I have a fast transit time - mouth to loo in about five or six hours. It has been measured! I also poo about 10-15 times a day ... yes tmi

timetodance · 30/09/2018 23:33

When I eat cake it makes my throat itch all the way up to my ear and I have to rub my mouth with my tongue.

Also get this really strange thing where I feel like my fingers are really thick and square but for some reason makes me think of needles. No one else seems to have ever understood that!

Littlemissindifferent · 30/09/2018 23:42

Occasionally when I bend down or reach for something i get a pain below my left rib cage. The only way to describe it is as if a muscle has popped out and has got cramp. It’s quite painful and lasts less than a minute but I try and massage it to ‘pop’ it back in.

I mentioned it to my doctor but he hadn’t heard of it and probably thought I was a bit strange.

Gammeldragz · 30/09/2018 23:52

The toilet thing is a vaso-vagal reaction, caused by pressure on a nerve near the back passage. Some people are more susceptible than others. DH had it badly after using a glycerine suppository and thought he was dying. I took the piss massively until I learned what it was, then it happened to me a few years later on the toilet and I really understand how terrified he'd been.
Blood pressure drops, skin goes clammy, heart races, dizzyness. Horrible.

MellowMelly · 30/09/2018 23:54

When I eat chocolate mousse or drink a glass of Baileys I sneeze. It normally happens within the first two mouthfuls.
Really can’t fathom out why.

Graphista · 01/10/2018 00:01

You could write a fucking book on mine!

Photic sneeze reflex, synesthesia, my sneezes never come alone always at least 2!

Thanks to long history of sciatica and then another spinal nerve issue if I strike a step wrong when using stairs leg will just go from under me as the nerve gets 'blocked', I'm now getting a similar issue happening in my arms so eg I could be holding something then suddenly either lose grip or grip tighter, to those unfamiliar it's a bit like if you've bumbed your 'funny bone' but without that particular pain, where your nerves feel "weird" and trigger twitches etc then go numb, old speech impediment from childhood resurfaces if tired, tipsy or sedated.

Oh yea! Genetically limited response to analgesia and anaesthetics (have come round from surgery before leaving operating theatre, local anaesthetics regularly wear off quickly - nightmare at dentist! Thankfully I currently have a dentist who has the same issue and gets it! When having minor outpatient surgery once the anaesthetic also limits blood flow to the area, I warned them, they didn't listen and had to top it up half way through so they could see what they were doing!

Left eye closes if exhausted, not just a twitch.

And that's before you get into all the hormonally caused crap like javelin arse, period shits, screwed up vision that makes me either miss or whack door handles or send cups flying...

Pre-storm headaches, yep get these so does dd. Believed to be caused by drop in barometric pressure?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 01/10/2018 00:21

My left eye squeaks. Only in the evening. If I rub it, it’s like there’s a little pocket of air in the inner corner that squeaks abs squelches. My brother and sister have the same.

I’m sure part of the reason I was able to breastfeed so easily was because my areolas seem almost completely numb. I can pinch them hard with nails and can’t feel it. It’s so weird.

Sometimes I get a repeating click in the nose. Never when I’m doing something; normally when I’m in bed trying to sleep. I can’t feel it but DH can hear it too.

I keep getting this odd buzzing feeling in my bum. Feels like my phone vibrating but my phone is on the table in front of me. It’s weird but I’m sure that’s more an indication I need to leave my phone alone!

I also get javelin arse and it’s fucking horrible. I get a similar feeling on one side of my head, at my right temple, it’s like a painful twitch? It makes me physically jump and grimace though.

Bodies are weird.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 01/10/2018 04:37

I only ever get hiccups when I'm hungry.

Flatasapancakenow · 01/10/2018 04:56

Plucking the start (?) of my eyebrows (where the two of them are closest to meeting) makes me sneeze.

Eating spicy things makes my inner ear very itchy.

People touching my nipples makes me very thirsty.

Flatasapancakenow · 01/10/2018 04:58

I also can't do an individual sneeze, normally it's two, sometimes it's more, its never just one.

NellieBee · 01/10/2018 20:47

If I need a poo I feel SUPER nauseous and hot and have to poo right away.

I hate it. Hate feeling sick and it happens once a day!

WHYYYYYYYYYY

NellieBee · 01/10/2018 20:48

Also yy to javelin arse; linked to period I think.
