Weird things your body does...

So I didn’t think this was weird, but apparently it is. This morning I got out the shower, walked into the bedroom and went to put socks on. As I did so, my little toenail was loose. As in, the whole thing. So I just pulled it off. And there’s a whole new fresh one grown underneath. I’ve had no trauma on the nail, it just happens randomly and fairly regularly; about once every few months or so.

I became aware that DH was looking at me, horrified. He assured me that toenails dropping off to reveal fresh new ones underneath is absolutely not a normal thing, and recommended I sell my body to science Grin

What weird thing does your body do?

I believe I have Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. Yes, started as a child whenever I was unwell with a high temperature. Only remember one episode as an adult when going through a particularly stressful time.
I also have in the past had times when falling asleep I freeze and can’t move/ talk. Terrifying.

StrangeLookingParasite · 30/09/2018 17:27

If I get frightened ( like at a roundabout, or seeing my dc jump off a high wall). I feel fear like little knives shooting out of me.

If I get a fright I feel as though the soles of my feet have been slapped, hard. It's really quite odd.

happymummy12345 · 30/09/2018 17:39

@ziggiestardust I had a feeling it did to be fair.
My husband hates it, says it freaks him out a bit.
So now if for whatever reason I'm upset or annoyed with him (life happens, all couples disagree at times), I do it right in front of him. He hates it.
It's never ever bothered me though

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 30/09/2018 20:34

Sometimes when I'm falling asleep I can hear a group of people talking like they're actually there, some of the voices are identifiable like my mum, my friends etc and some are random people. All talking, as though I'm in the middle of a pub with various conversations going on around me.

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 30/09/2018 20:35

Also if I've been holding a bottle for long periods while running, when I go to move that arm I get an electric shock sensation go up it, its horrible!

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 30/09/2018 20:35

Bear - me too!

RocketPockets · 30/09/2018 20:45

At work I have to wear ski like goggles over my glasses sometimes. Not for very long periods of time, half hour at the most normally. They are adjustable and I don't wear them very tight as they leave marks on my face but whenever I take them off I get a cold sensation over my head like someone is pouring cold water over me. It goes almost as soon as it's come on but I find it weird every single time it happens!

Jeffjefftyjeff · 30/09/2018 20:47

I get a headache when there is a storm coming. I’m sure this isn’t unique but when I said this at work before a storm recently everyone looked at me like I was bonkers. Please tell me I’m not!

I also shed and regrow little toe nails!

anitagreen · 30/09/2018 20:57

I have OCD Pure O. So like a normal person can shake of a weird thought or intrusive to say. I will over think it and worry constantly instead like I've had thoughts of what if i kill myself? I know I won't and I don't want to die I'm not even depressed Confusedit's just the anxiety and OCD that makes you think like it. It's quite an annoying condition sometimes it does get me down so much, other days it's okay it's just the constant what ifs? Constant worrys etc. But apparently it does go and can be treated. I've had them even at a bus stop oh what if I push this old lady in front of a bus? I would NEVER do that. But the OCD intrusive thoughts just pop out of no where.

Livedandlearned2 · 30/09/2018 20:59

@Thistledew I also get the electricity vibration thing, I've only ever noticed it on iphone chargers, ipads too I guess, it's a horrible feeling, though I've never touched anyone else who is holding it to see if it happens then. It's not every time either.

Doje · 30/09/2018 21:01

If I scratch the crook of my arm (my 'inner elbow' if you will) my tongue itches.

Loyaultemelie · 30/09/2018 21:02

Jeff I get headaches for storms (and snow!) I also have occasional AIWS
I suck up bath water and get the foof flinch too.
If someone tickles a particular spot in my tummy I collapse (my body clearly hates me!)

Popsicales · 30/09/2018 21:03

When I think of something painful or gruesome, I get a pain up my bum hole and have to shift about to ward it off Blush

McFugget · 30/09/2018 21:03

This was the opticians fault. When I got new glasses I felt like I was about 10 feet tall, and obviously it's a bit disconcerting feeling like your height has doubled. My feet looked so far away! Also every thing was tilting towards me. I went back and they swapped the lenses around, which gave the sensation of being 3 foot tall. They'd managed to get the lenses the wrong way round and back to front.

didireallysaythat · 30/09/2018 21:06

I hear colour.

Most colours have a note for me. Colours that go together for me make nice melodious chords.

Makes shopping for paint for walls really tedious. I quite like white rooms...

BikeRunSki · 30/09/2018 21:07

My left little toe does the toe nail thing too.

I have what I think is called a “hypnic kick”. Just as I am about to fall asleep in bed st night, my legs jerk.

fishfingersandketchup · 30/09/2018 21:09

When its really quiet I can hear creaking sounds in the back of my skullShock
For me, my response to seeing others in pain, or the anticipation of it, is for my fingers to suddenly go straight and my toes to curl up.
Fuck I'm weirdGrin

RottenApple · 30/09/2018 21:11

Plucking my eyebrows makes me sneeze

WallabyWay · 30/09/2018 21:11

I don't get ice cream headaches. I get a severe pain in my back instead.

TentUpFirstBunkUpLater · 30/09/2018 21:12

When I watch a film and someone is stabbed, I feel a stabbing pain

I find it difficult to watch many programmes because of the pain

fruitshot · 30/09/2018 21:20

When I wake up in the mornings, I cannot grip anything with either hand for a good 20 mins. They simply won't work, never have 😂

If I need to go to the loo, I get intense back ache, like I've trapped a nerve.

I have a really annoying startle reflex when falling asleep. I have been known to jump out of the bed. Drives my husband potty 😂

NuttyMacaroon · 30/09/2018 21:33

I feel pain in my legs in connection with heights. So,for example, if I am too close to a window or balcony whilst high up (say 3 floors or more), I get shooting pains up my legs and feel the urge to get close to the floor. The same if my children or someone I know, eg friend or husband, go close to "the edge", but it doesn't happen if a stranger does it. Very weird and difficult to explain! My kids love testing it out by walking close and looking (just looking, not climbing) over a balcony, stair rail, window etc. It gets me every time and results in me looking like a fool begging them to come away whilst I clutch my legs and get closer to the floor Blush happens when watching heights on tv as well.

funmummy48 · 30/09/2018 21:36

I sometimes feel like I'm about to lift off the ground & fly. It's weird, as though something is making my body really light.

dancemom · 30/09/2018 21:36

I get itchy painful ears when I'm overtired

Nacreous · 30/09/2018 21:37

Fruit shot That’s called hypnagogic jerks!

I sometimes get it too.

I have two little toenails on one toe - it’s like a tiny one down the sides.

My hip also periodically causes me quite a lot of pain and then will just fail to support my weight properly. Goodness only knows why.

I think I’m hypersensitive to a lot of things - I struggle with clothing seams and embroidery etc but also things like if I concentrate I can feel my pulse in my wrists and my hands and even in my feet. I can hear my own watch tick.

Loving reading about all the other weird things people’s bodies do!
