Weird things your body does...

So I didn’t think this was weird, but apparently it is. This morning I got out the shower, walked into the bedroom and went to put socks on. As I did so, my little toenail was loose. As in, the whole thing. So I just pulled it off. And there’s a whole new fresh one grown underneath. I’ve had no trauma on the nail, it just happens randomly and fairly regularly; about once every few months or so.

I became aware that DH was looking at me, horrified. He assured me that toenails dropping off to reveal fresh new ones underneath is absolutely not a normal thing, and recommended I sell my body to science Grin

What weird thing does your body do?

Sadie I love ASMR too. My fave is writing on a hard surface. There are loads of clips on YouTube but it's not the same as in real life.

ToucanPlayAtThatGame · 30/09/2018 11:36

when I cough really hard the inside of my elbow hurts, like a pinching type pain. Normally on the left side.

oversharingparents · 30/09/2018 11:40

If I imagine metal touching metal, or metal being scratched, my teeth hurt. Eg the thought of someone writing with a biro on a metal pole. Something like that. It’s a horrible feeling in my front teeth.

If I can’t wee (I have difficulty peeing most of the time) my heart starts pounding and my legs go shaky. It’s the only way I know I need to cstheterise as I don’t get much bladder sensation. When I do (get an urge to pee) it’s sudden to the point I’m doubled over and have to run to the loo.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 30/09/2018 11:43

I get an itch inside my index finger when I am upset or feeling sorry for myself.

EggysMom · 30/09/2018 11:49

This one is hard to explain but if someone else gets it I'm sure they'll know what I mean. I get 'white noise' in my feet if I don't move them for a while. It's not pins and needles, or any kind of pain, it literally feels exactly like white noise on an untuned tv sounds, just fuzzy and occasionally (if I haven't moved for ages) almost as if my foot is vibrating very slightly. I've yet to find someone who hasn't looked at me as if I'm insane when I try to explain it!

I get this, in fact, I've got it just now! I generally have to get up and stomp around to stop the sensation. I've always presumed it's a really mild form of restless leg syndrome.

happymummy12345 · 30/09/2018 11:50

When I put my thumbs up, say in a thumbs up way, instead of staying straight, so pointing up at the ceiling, they automatically bend backwards. It doesn't hurt at all, and I can't stop it. I have to force myself to keep my thumb straight.
My mum is the same.

Kewqueue · 30/09/2018 11:51

If I get a shock (like someone dashing out in front of my car) I get electric shocks up both arms.

Helpimfalling · 30/09/2018 11:55

My stomach makes noises from rite deep down at the bottom of my stomach and it sounds like I'm breaking wind it embarrasses the shit out of me

Helpimfalling · 30/09/2018 11:56

@April241 also yes for me too from my first sip when I use to drink

It's so weird

Helpimfalling · 30/09/2018 11:58

If I have a bath and get out and go sit down a while after to put my socks on a gush of warm water comes out of my vagina wtf!!

cricketmum84 · 30/09/2018 12:00

@LastOneDancing I get that too! DH says it's the equivalent of his balls going up when he sees someone on TV getting kicked in that area 😂😂😂

AlpacaPicnic · 30/09/2018 12:04

A few years ago there was a very similar thread here, I mentioned something that I experience occasionally and it turns out it has a name! And I've been dying to bring it up again, so here it is...
I have Alice In Wonderland syndrome. A very mild version of it, but I'm so glad I know what's up with my head now!

I basically feel as if a part of my body, or sometimes my whole self, is expanding to a ridiculous extent and swelling up. As if I'm going to burst out of my own house! Or I will sometimes feel as if I'm being squished down and everything around me is too big suddenly.
It's mildly disconcerting at worst, but more severe cases have, in the past, resulted in people being hospitalised in mental health facilities.

ShowOfHands · 30/09/2018 12:06

I suck up bath water too!

My ears can make white noise if I sort of clench them inside.

ShowOfHands · 30/09/2018 12:08

I know a few people who have Alice In Wonderland syndrome. Most started when they had fevers as children apparently.

ziggiestardust · 30/09/2018 12:10

helpimfalling when I’m on my period, and I have a bath; I stop bleeding. If I go swimming and put in a tampon; there is nothing on it when I remove it after I get out of the pool. I’ve been caught out a number of times thinking ‘oh! My period has really suddenly stopped!’ Nope Confused

alpaca that sounds absolutely TERRIFYING. How do you cope with it?

happymummy I think that means you have double joined thumbs. That’s what my mum always told me, anyway.

cleaning my teeth makes me desperate for a wee

seeing accidents or pain makes my fanny flinch

Lucylugs · 30/09/2018 12:13

When I get a fright especially at night I feel fear shooting out of my feet.
I also get the Alice in wonderland thing, interesting to know it has a name.
I think the weak hands/ body when laughing is called Cataplexy.
I also get an electric shock which goes from part of my thigh into my foot and back again. Only last few min but very uncomfortable when it happens.

Helpimfalling · 30/09/2018 12:15

Same @ziggiestardust my period stops in water too lol

Nightinshiningllama · 30/09/2018 12:21

Brushing my teeth makes my nose insanely itchy.

MrsAlanPartridge · 30/09/2018 12:22

I get the Alice in wonderland thing. Never knew it had a name? I also leak bathwater and don't bleed in water!
When something makes me feel yuk, like someone hurting themselves, my bum tingles Confused
I also smell metal really strongly when washing up cutlery and it makes me teeth feel weird.
I can also start feeling proper randy if I concentrate on something too long Shock

Thistledew · 30/09/2018 12:28

I don't know if this is an odd thing or something common-

If I hold something electrical that is plugged into the mains, such as a phone, iPad or laptop that is charging, I can feel a sort of tingly vibration. I feel the same vibrations if I gently touch someone who is holding the electrical item. I.e. if I lay my hand gently on DS as he is holding a charging iPad I can feel a tingling sensation.

I would love to know if others do this as DH states he has no idea what I'm talking about.

AlpacaPicnic · 30/09/2018 12:30

Ziggie, it's really not! I can see how it sounds weird and maybe I'm lucky that it's very occasional and mild for me. I used to get it as a child as I was going to sleep and I suppose my logical brain thought it was part of the dreaming process. It hadn't gone away as I've got older which is unusual (according to Dr Wikipedia!) I didn't even know it was a thing that other people experienced until I posted it on here but actually knowing it has a name makes it fine.

So I was walking to work the other day and felt as if I was being pushed into the pavement from above, as if a force was compressing me almost and all the buildings and trees were looking over me, but now I'm able to go 'oh that's the AiWS thing' and carry on.

It's connected to migraines which bizarrely I don't get, but my mom used to have them a lot. She had a type where she's looking at something but can only see half of it, and the AiWS is to do with perception so I wonder if there is a connection there. I don't really mention it though because it sounds do odd!

Alwaysatyke · 30/09/2018 13:48

There's a spot on my left elbow crook that, if tickled, makes a specific spot on my face just near my left eyebrow go tingly. It's not a two way street though and the right side doesn't do the same.

Also I have bits of my face that barely move at all, and others that move when I move a different part of it which is (according to physio) due to some bad rewiring after bells palsy. Trying to fix that one though :(

BearSoFair · 30/09/2018 13:55

Eggys you're honestly the first person to know what I mean when I describe that feeling! I'm quite glad it isn't just me who gets it

TallulahBetty · 30/09/2018 15:30

Yes I get AIWS too!
