Weird things your body does...

So I didn’t think this was weird, but apparently it is. This morning I got out the shower, walked into the bedroom and went to put socks on. As I did so, my little toenail was loose. As in, the whole thing. So I just pulled it off. And there’s a whole new fresh one grown underneath. I’ve had no trauma on the nail, it just happens randomly and fairly regularly; about once every few months or so.

I became aware that DH was looking at me, horrified. He assured me that toenails dropping off to reveal fresh new ones underneath is absolutely not a normal thing, and recommended I sell my body to science Grin

What weird thing does your body do?

Wakes me up somewhere between 3 and 4am every morning and doesn't often let me go back to sleep properly, even though I am fucking knackered after 17 years of it.

gothefcktosleep · 30/09/2018 21:43

Sometimes when I sing certain notes my eyes well up. Has always happened since I can remember.

Munchmallow · 30/09/2018 21:44

I get a weird physical sensation, almost like a panicky feeling and I worrry I’ve been poisoned when I need to poo

I get this (not the poisoning worry though!), it's a release of adrenaline I think, to stimulate the muscles (?)

OMG, OMG, OMG! I'm so glad I clicked on this thread. When I was about 8 I had a really high fever and I experienced what a pp called Alice in wonderland syndrome. My mom thought I was hallucinating. I still sometimes get waking dreams like this when I'm really stressed and I become really small and everything is faraway. I found it very disturbing as a child but not so much now. I never knew it was a thing that other people had too.
Also, I can do this with my thumb. But only the left.

Jenb2104 · 30/09/2018 21:51

When I cough really hard my chin really itches!

gothefcktosleep · 30/09/2018 21:56

I’ve never heard of AiWS but remember the sensation from when I want younger during times of being incredibly angry. Interesting, I just thought I was going a bit potty.

fruitshot · 30/09/2018 21:56

@Nacreous well, now it has a name! I also know it will be 10x worse tonight because I said it out loud 😂

motortroll · 30/09/2018 21:59

@NuttyMacaroon I get similar but I have to back up to a wall. I usually end up sitting on the floor if I can't move away. I get that flippt stomach feeling you get with nerves but in my legs! I get it with any oerson close to the edge and also big heavy ceilings like in cathedrals!

On holiday we stayed in a hotel with a 20 storey open atrium. We were 7th floor at the end if the "balcony" bit. I couldnt lookup or down and the lift was bloody glass!!

MillicentCat · 30/09/2018 22:03

My nose runs every time I brush my teeth.

whereareyousleep · 30/09/2018 22:11

If I have a cold drink no matter how warm it is in the house after about 9pm I can't a really uncomfortable sensation sort of shivery and tingly hard to explain but it doesn't feel good

GuntyMcGee · 30/09/2018 22:18

I have had AIWS on and off since I was a kid. I used to say to my sister that she seemed like she was really far away when she was actually sat next to me, as if I was looking down a telescope the wrong way. Never knew it had a name until I saw a thread on here a short while ago. It mostly happens when I'm really tired or stressed.

I can often feel and hear things charging. So the laptop or phone plugged in I can feel a hint of a vibration and hear the buzz of it.

I also have the creaky skull thing, it's usually when I'm in bed trying to get to sleep.

I get tingly labia. Just the outer ones and on random occasions. Not linked to sitting weirdly or arousal at all, just an odd, unpleasant fizzing type sensation every now and then. I wonder if its poor circulation as I get cyanosed nipples and very cold toes a lot.

If I've done a wee and think there's some more left in the bladder if I tickle my back just above my bum crack my bladder will squeeze a bit more out.

If I'm in a loud environment, like somewhere with loud music or if someone is shouting of laughing loudly my hearing does this weird thing where the loud sound gets distorted. Hard to describe, but like a robotic/metallic/grinding kind of noise over the top of whatever noise is being made. So if someone shouted a word at me I'd hear the word and the voice but with a more metallic distortion on it. It's done it for years.

My DH does hypnagogic jerks when he's falling asleep. It's worse if he's touching me when he nods off. His hands clasp into claws and he will full body twitch. Freaks me out every time.

Sleep apnea. My youngest sister had it. We didn’t suspect it initially but now we are aware of the issue. She had a overnight sleep study done and the report indicated that they suspected she had it. It’s like sleep paralysis. We use a machine at night time to help her sleep. I still remember the one time I’ve taken her in for a sleep study at night time in the hospital.

My mom contacted me telling us.

Whisky2014 · 30/09/2018 22:21

My leg and arm muscles twitch and pulsate. Its very annoying.

SallyOMalley · 30/09/2018 22:23

My right eye squirts fluid when I have a cold. I have to keep that eye tight shut when I sneeze or blow my nose. It started after a bad sinus infection several years ago - my ds calls it my 'oo-arr' eye (I look like a pirate, apparently!)

tillytoodles1 · 30/09/2018 22:25

I get very annoyed and depressed if I'm busy and need a wee.

mineofuselessinformation · 30/09/2018 22:28

Foof, don't do it.
This is me after years of having hypermobile thumbs.

doodlejump1980 · 30/09/2018 22:29

I feel faint every time I do (ahem) a poo. Low blood pressure or something.

ButAIBUtho · 30/09/2018 22:32

I have synaesthesia so I can 'see' numbers, days, weeks, months, years, and the alphabet in order. And they all have colours

That's normal though, surely? I do this. Surely most people do this.
If you can't see the days of the week or the alphabet, how do you remember them?!

SoManyConkers · 30/09/2018 22:40

Sleep paralysis, bloody hate it!

ButAIBUtho · 30/09/2018 22:44

Might as well add my own!

I get out if body experiences.
I've often thought it was sleep paralysis (the pp reminded me!) and I've looked into the possibility several times but what I experience and what people describe as sleep paralysis is totally different.
In the contrary I'm not paralysed at all, I can move. Sit up and see my unmoved self.

It used to frighten the absolute shit out of me as a child.

Fooferella · 30/09/2018 22:47

Thanks mine, I have just been told I'm hypermobile by an osteopath. I don't have do the thumb thing often, just as a party trick!

6demandingchildren · 30/09/2018 22:47

If I bend over my nose runs.
Also if I'm a bit constipated I will pass out.

QueenOfMyWorld · 30/09/2018 22:47

Whenever I'm about to get poorly in any form my eyes always feel sore first
