Do people still use iPods

I have several iPods but tend to use an old Classic model the most.
I usually use it in the car. However I had a teenager that I work with in the car the other day and I asked him to chose a song. The kid was baffled and asked what the hell it was!!

Normally when I have teens in the car ( work related, not my own) I usually have my phone on and they use Spotify or YouTube for music but the iPod has stumped them [ grin]

Yes. I use my shuffle at the gym, it doesn't get in the way.
A phone is too big to keep in my pocket when I'm on equipment.

ClashCityRocker · 18/09/2018 09:42

I was thinking this the other day...

I have an old style nano somewhere but now tend to just use my phone.

There's free WiFi pretty much everywhere I want to use it and my data allowance is large enough to more than cover the times there isn't available WiFi.

I'm not very au fait with it however and tend to stick to YouTube playlists and Spotify.

ClashCityRocker · 18/09/2018 09:43

I also have wireless headphones which helps with the phone being a bit more cumbersome than the ipod.

notacooldad · 18/09/2018 10:11

I have given up with the ipod at the gym but uts great in the car, especially if I'm doing long journeys that last hours. I play full albums and its not using phone battery up.
I just found the teen reaction funny, like he'd come across a gramaphone or other antique and couldn't make head or tail of it!

Jeez how fast has that moved on! I still use an ipod. It always makes me laugh that the Save icon is a floppy disk, and only over 30s know what it is!

SammieOK · 18/09/2018 10:14

I was thinking about buying an old cheap one for when I'm out and about as I don't want to lose my phone, they're also a bit more portable

PeePeeHula · 18/09/2018 10:14

My dh uses his a lot. Mostly because he runs his mobile battery down quickly at the best of times!

groundcontroltomontydon · 18/09/2018 10:20

I use an ipod shuffle (aptly named) when running

BearSoFair · 18/09/2018 10:27

DH has an iPod touch, he uses it on his commute. Mostly so he doesn't have to charge his phone all the time as he runs the battery down on that quick enough already!

MadisonAvenue · 18/09/2018 10:27

I still use one, I bought a new one last year actually as the battery life was pretty poor on my old one. I use it a lot when travelling, it means that my phone battery isn’t being used up plus I’m not storing loads of music on my phone (actually I wouldn’t have enough space for my music).

AngeloMysterioso · 18/09/2018 10:29

I don't at the minute, but I will again as soon as I get the thingummy that makes it work with wireless earphones

Mailfuckoff · 18/09/2018 10:29

I've got one in the car with 10,000 songs on, not sure how else I would carry around my music collection

CMOTDibbler · 18/09/2018 10:35

I have a tiny mp3 player for running - I don't want to carry my phone around with me. In the car, I play music saved to my phone, but never stream outside the house

spiderlight · 18/09/2018 10:37

I use my fabulous iPod Classic - huge memory, amazing battery life, why would I not?? I only use my phone for music at home, when I stream my Amazon music (or Spotify if I'm feeling brave) to my MusicMan, which I can hang up in the kitchen while I'm cooking.

littlemissalwaystired · 18/09/2018 10:37

I have an old iPod and an iPhone that I use, I tend to use my iPod when I'm out running, or for going on the internet whilst in the bathGrin

iMatter · 18/09/2018 10:37

I use my shuffle a lot - car, running, gym

Great size and it stores loads of songs

AwdBovril · 18/09/2018 10:43

Yes. I have an old nano which I use on long trips. DH has the largest memory size version that they released - not sure what it's called or what the capacity is though. Wish they'd release an up to date model as he uses it daily & it's nearly full.

purpleme12 · 18/09/2018 10:46

Yes I do! I've still got it from when they first came out! It might be the one they discontinued?

adaline · 18/09/2018 10:53

Yep, I use mine in the car for music everyday.

Planesmistakenforstars · 18/09/2018 13:51

I was recently travelling back from Turkey and was asked by the young check-in lady what electronic equiment I had in my hand luggage. I told her I had an iPod and she didn't know what one of those was, she had to ask a colleague what it was and if it was okay Shock

Maryann1975 · 18/09/2018 13:54

I love my shuffle. Only problem is I listen to music at home through amazon music so don’t have any new albums to download to it. I have no idea If you can download amazon music on to it? Is that possible to do?

ClashCityRocker · 18/09/2018 13:57

See I think the problem is my one is so old it doesn't have Internet...

So you've got to either buy the cd and upload it to iTunes (can you still do that?) or buy it from iTunes.

And the playlist function is clunky as fuck.

And it never synched with iTunes properly, or couldn't find the track titles etc...

How do they work nowadays?

purpleme12 · 18/09/2018 13:59

Yes I download from iTunes.

I assumed you still had to do that!

IcaMorgan · 18/09/2018 14:24

I have an iPod touch that I listen to audiobooks on. I can also stream music via amazon music if I connect it to my phones wifi while out

redlittlesquirrel · 18/09/2018 14:43

I've never had an iPod but I do have a couple of Sony MP3 players that I use regularly. I tend to use the older one in the car or if I fancy listening to music in the shower as the volume goes louder than my other one, which I tend to just use if I'm out and about walking.

I don't use my phone as the battery would drain too quickly.
