Do people still use iPods

I have several iPods but tend to use an old Classic model the most.
I usually use it in the car. However I had a teenager that I work with in the car the other day and I asked him to chose a song. The kid was baffled and asked what the hell it was!!

Normally when I have teens in the car ( work related, not my own) I usually have my phone on and they use Spotify or YouTube for music but the iPod has stumped them [ grin]

Grin Not an unusual occurrence for me!

That was to cooldad sorry, but you can see what I have to contend with? Smile

I can't imagine listening to music when swimming - and I swim every day. It just would be...weird
Ok to a lot of hill and mountain walking and usually by myself. Last summer I was walking on the fells in the Forest of Bowland and used my iPod. I was out for about 8 1/2hrs and listed to Nick Cave albums from beginning to end and dudnt skip a track even if I previously didn't like it.
It was weird at first but I loved it. I wouldn't do it everytime but once in a while is good.

I just find swimming (head down, freestyle) in the pool so utterly boring compared to open water where I have a lot to think about. And to meet my 8km target for next year I've got a lot of long hours in the pool with nothing more interesting than the bottom of the pool to look at - so music helps to fill the time in and motivate me to keep going

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't want to pay for a subscription to Spotify or Apple Music or anything else - I've already bought all the music once (via CD or download), it pisses me off that I now have to pay again to listen to it! And the thought of recreating hundreds of playlists on a different platform is so depressing. Things like Amazon Music are fab when I want a pre-chosen pop playlist to dance around the kitchen to, but not when I want to listen to my own playlist of slightly obscure English folk (or whatever). Grr. I think a reconditioned ipod is the only answer.

Yes, I use a nano. I like to listen to podcasts and haven't found a good podcast phone app that can't be interrupted by other things on the phone - eg, messages, sounds on web pages, gps voice etc. I've found the podcast gets annoyingly interrupted and sometimes loses your place.

I haven't tried all the apps out there so any recommendations welcome (in case I pod falls in a puddle or something and stops working).

I have a Sony Walkman which is like an ipod, I have it because it docks to speakers at home and I don't need an internet connection. I tried using Amazon music on my phone, but it was just too slow to load the music on the train's rubbish wifi.

Are MP 3 devices basically the same as iPods ,but just not Apple ?

Yes. iPods are MP3 players.

I still use my ten year old ipod touch in the kitchen on a base station but cant put new mysic on as itunes hasnt recognized the pod for a few years now and I dont seem able to upgrade the operating system. Hate this built in obsolescence.

Yes, in the car. My music was taking up loads of space and I don't want dc messing with my phone so an iPod is ideal. I bought it in the Apple store in New York but couldn't find them so asked. Staff were baffled why I'd want one but I love it! Grin
