Do people still use iPods

I have several iPods but tend to use an old Classic model the most.
I usually use it in the car. However I had a teenager that I work with in the car the other day and I asked him to chose a song. The kid was baffled and asked what the hell it was!!

Normally when I have teens in the car ( work related, not my own) I usually have my phone on and they use Spotify or YouTube for music but the iPod has stumped them [ grin]

I use my nano every day. My phone is too big and my backpack has an iPod-sized pocket on the strap so it is handy.

I was going to get DD one for Christmas - a basic one that doesn't have internet, just plays songs. But then I'd have to get Apple Music which I don't like, and all her songs are on playlists on my Spotify account...

This is the part of the modern world that really gets on my nerves. That and having to charge everything all of the time.

Stephisaur · 18/09/2018 15:36

My husband uses his iPod classic still. It saves the battery on his phone.

I currently use my phone.

Thankewe · 18/09/2018 15:42

I have an iPod classic but can’t add more songs to it since iTunes isn’t a thing anymore and my laptop doesn’t have a disk drive!

GloriousGoosebumps · 18/09/2018 15:43

I still use my ipod touch every day. It saves my phone's battery and has a larger memory. They're still being sold so there's obviously a market for them.

Andylion · 18/09/2018 15:47

Thankewe, what do you mean that iTines isn't a thing anymore?

BikeRunSki · 18/09/2018 15:49

I would if I hadn’t accidentally washed it. Much easier for running than s big phone.

purpleme12 · 18/09/2018 15:49

I still use iTunes for my iPod classic

Hoozz · 18/09/2018 15:52

I have an original one. It doesn't have internet and it needs a speaker. We also have a first generation nano somewhere. None of us use iPhones or other Apple stuff so the iPod hasn't been used for years. I always loathed iTunes but haven't deleted it from my computer because it's got 1000s of tracks on which I laboriously uploaded.
I just use Spotify now.

notacooldad · 18/09/2018 15:55

I have no idea If you can download amazon music on to it? Is that possible to do?
You can but it's a bit off a faff.
Sometimes it automatically does it other tines I've had to convert it.

I use my classic every day. I panic if I leave it at work/home.

I download from I-tunes and add actual CDs as well. Once in a while there is something obscure that I can get on CD but not on I-Tunes. I-Tunes is hideously clunky and there are challenges, e.g. it is convinced I should be using a Tiscali e-mail account.

Back in time DH even put some of my cassette tapes onto CD and then added the CDs to my I-pod. He was forgiven many things for that.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 18/09/2018 16:06

I HATE the obsolescence of music players now! I use a very old i pod that I filled with old Cds, vinyl and stuff off i tunes. I hate the idea of having all my music on my phone, and of needing an Internet connection to listen to stuff.
Amazon gives me the creeps anyway. Alexa is just the first step on the path to becoming robots slaves...Wink
I wish my old ipod fit a modern speaker though. Why do they change the connections?!

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 18/09/2018 16:08

King my old car had a cassette deck. I could drive around listening to crackly mix tapes my 16 year old boyfriend made me!Grin

TallulahBetty · 18/09/2018 16:13

Yea, I do. I walk to work every day and would be lost without it.

CramptonHodnet · 18/09/2018 16:16

I have an old i-Pod Nano which I have some audiobooks on. I hadn't used it for a while and was a bit Shock at how dated it seemed compared with my phone. I find my phone just so easy to use for everything these days. And, yes, I am old enough to remember using floppy discs, and even earlier than that when hardly anyone had computers Grin

bitchwitch · 18/09/2018 16:17

no ipod or phone for that matter, but a tiny lipstick size mp3 player that is waterproof and i can load from any source i want.no need for wifi and battery lasts for 5-6 hours
love it /

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 18/09/2018 16:20

Ooh what kind is it bitchwitch?

CiderBrains · 18/09/2018 16:27

I use mine in the bath so there's no risk of my phone getting wet! My iPod also means my phone battery doesn't get used up.

Is iTunes not a thing now? Feels like I've missed something major!

NicoAndTheNiners · 18/09/2018 16:31

iTunes will stop downloads being a thing from March 2019. End of an era. iPods will be defunct which is a shame because I much prefer an iPod for the gym. Have every model of nano going. Nano 6 with the clip is my favourite.

I’ve bitten the bullet and subscribed to Spotify.

CiderBrains · 18/09/2018 16:38

What will happen to the music that's been purchased through iTunes? Does it need to be saved somewhere?

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 18/09/2018 16:39

Oh, thanks for saying that Nico, that is really useful. I had no idea!

purpleme12 · 18/09/2018 16:40

What! I did now know iTunes was stopping!! So we can't ever put new music onto my iPod??

NicoAndTheNiners · 18/09/2018 16:44

Well when I read about this months ago Apple were saying that any ore bought music would be safely stored on iTunes so you wouldn’t lose it. It was in the daily mail and everything! Grin

But I’ve just googled and lots of reports saying it’s fake news. So now I’m not sure. I bloody believed it though!

MargoLovebutter · 18/09/2018 16:45

Is that definite NicoAndTheNiners? My 85 year old mother will be devastated!!!!! She loves her ipod.

purpleme12 · 18/09/2018 16:47

Ah man you worried me!!
