DD came home with a workbook to show us. She asked why it is wrong. Honestly, I'm stumped. Someone explain!

Whilst the numbers are correct, pattern of dots doesn’t match - so she’s said 8, drawn 4 4 on the domino then marked 5 3 on the circles

lackingimagination · 30/08/2018 15:33

I can’t see how it’s wrong either 🤔

mamapants · 30/08/2018 15:34

She hasn't matched to the dice

Ah yes fenella!!!

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 30/08/2018 15:34

Goodness knows. I think it's probably something you would have to ask the teacher?

BringOnTheScience · 30/08/2018 15:35

The numbers of dots in each set don't match.
eg for 8, dots on the dominoes are 4+4 , but the coloured in bit is 5+3

It's not been illustrated clearly though in the example.

Misshatter · 30/08/2018 15:35

The dots on the right should reflect the dominoes. So for question two four dots on each lot of circles should be coloured in.

cricketmum84 · 30/08/2018 15:35

@FenellaMaxwellsPony is right.

For 8 if she marked 4 and 4 on the dice then she should have coloured 4 of the 5 circles in each side rather than 5 and 3.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 30/08/2018 15:35

What do you mean Fenella & Lacking?

GinIsIn · 30/08/2018 15:35

The rows of 2 lots of 5 circles are meant to show each side of the domino.

So the first one is correct as it says 5 1 on the domino and she coloured the corresponding circles. But for the others she’s just filled the circles from the left, not marked the right number for each side of the domino

Reaa · 30/08/2018 15:35

The 5 circles each side, Represent the dice

SilentHeadphones · 30/08/2018 15:36

That's what I first thought Fenella so why is the last one correct? It should be wrong too as the only possible way is to do 5 + 4

OP posts:
MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 30/08/2018 15:36

But that doesn't work because there's only five dots - what happens if you did six on the dice?

Reaa · 30/08/2018 15:36

Posted before I had wrote the rest but Fenella has the same answer I was typing.

Alittleshaderequired · 30/08/2018 15:36

But how can it match the dice when there’s only 5 circles in each set? Confused
How could she show 12 if the domino said 6/6?

BicycleMadeForTwo · 30/08/2018 15:37

It looks like the circles she needed to colour in corresponded to the numbers on each dice. So, for the answer 5 - 4 of the first circle section should have been shaded in then one from the other section. Rather than colouring them in in a row adding up to 5. Might not be right though.

TeenTimesTwo · 30/08/2018 15:37

I think the teacher has incorrectly marked the last one as correct.

TheQueef · 30/08/2018 15:37

Then the last q should be also wrong?

Reaa · 30/08/2018 15:37

But saying that, then the last one should've marked wrong.

Belindabelle · 30/08/2018 15:37

She should have coloured in 4 circles and 4 circles, not 5 and 3. 4 circles and 1 circle, not 5. third wrong one should be 5 spots on one domino and two on other side as 5 is the maximum amount of circles.

lackingimagination · 30/08/2018 15:37

Now I’m back to being stumped 🤦🏼‍♀️

Alittleshaderequired · 30/08/2018 15:37

Or is it faces of dice rather than a domino?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 30/08/2018 15:38

9 should be marked as wrong too

treaclesoda · 30/08/2018 15:38

But the last one doesn't match the domino illustration either (it wouldn't be possibly to match it anyway because of the layout of the dots) and it is marked correct.

It's...strange!

MakeLemonade · 30/08/2018 15:38

That makes sense until you get to the bottom one which is 6 + 3 on dice and the corresponding dots are in 5/5 formation.
