Anyone else can't sleep? I didn't go to bed til 1ish last night, but I've already been awake over an hour.

DDog is horrified that I'm up so early (and it's raining here).

Where I am it's 2 hours til grade boundaries released (which I still don't totally understand, but we're hoping for low) and 3 hours til she gets her results. Kettle's on.

I agree @KeepServingtheDrinks ... xxx

Ps. My boy did fabulous too! Going out for a meal in a bit to celebrate 😁

Idontmeanto · 23/08/2018 19:11

Not as shiny as some on here but dead chuffed with three 8s two 7s, three 6s and two 5s. Just been for a celebratory afternoon tea and am a bit tipsy and happy!

DadDadDad · 23/08/2018 19:20

Agreed, KeepServing, it feels a long journey since I joined this thread.

My DS got a couple of 9s and a load of 8s so I'm very happy, but I'll try a different kind of brag if I may...

I have a first class degree in Maths and as a former maths teacher helped hundreds get their GCSE. But the pride of those is eclipsed by my DS getting an 8 in Maths, when it's never been his favourite subject and after a lot of working with me evenings and weekends over the past few months.

So I'm going to correct Bornto - there's at least one caring dad here too!

EdWinchester · 23/08/2018 20:06

We have just been out to celebrate too - and a bonus was the older brother drove us there and back!

I feel immensely proud. I have not told anyone on social media/whatsapp etc as I loathe all that listing of grades, so on MN i feel I can say, he did really well!

Ellapaella · 23/08/2018 20:09

@Idontmeanto those are excellent results! My DS got s mixture of mostly 6's and 7's and a 5 and a 4 in two subjects he really struggled with and thought he had done terribly in so actually that was a lovely surprise.
He couldn't have worked any harder if he'd tried to get those results and that's what matters.
I am also feeling a little bit tipsy after a celebratory tea out - it feels a little bit like Christmas Day in our house today!

Lipsofchicken · 23/08/2018 20:15

Clutching at straws
My ds was supposed to do very well in his GCSEs, 9999888888 kinda well. We were unable to collect his results today as away on holiday. The local paper has already published the names of the students that have done well at his school- 22 names in all, and not ds’s!!
Has he not done as well as expected or is this some sort of data protection GDPR issue in that they can’t list his name as he hasn’t collected his results??

KeepServingTheDrinks · 23/08/2018 23:10

Whereismumhiding2 ((( ))) well done to your boy. We went out for a celebratory meal too. The one thing I've learned from this thread is how totally not-unique I am. All day, there's been a chorus of "and me" and "same here". I've now been in cautious touch with (for example) colleagues with DC the same age. NO ONE, like NO ONE slept more than 3 hours last night (so why am I still up when I'm so tired, my teeth hurt!). EVERYONE'S been talking about Prosecco all day (ah, yes, now I remember!)

Idontmeanto but it's not about 'not as good as some others'. There's ALWAYS someone who's done better. It's about 'did my kid do well? Did they get the result they deserved? Did they get enough to go on to their chosen next stage? Are THEY happy? Are THEY proud? Have they achieved to their potential? Your afternoon tea sounds lovely. That's a nice thing to have done. My DD thought she'd failed maths. She got a 6. It's her second worst result, but it's still a bloody B. I'm thrilled for her. I'm thrilled for us that we don't have to coax and jolly her along to do a retake. I'm thrilled that it's there now. It's on her CV. If she wants to apply for training in the future which has as a minimum requirement "maths and English" she doesn't have to think "oh, I can't do that, then". I'm more happy about that 6 than I am about all her 7s, her 8 and her 9.

Wasn't trying to exclude anyone DadDadDad. Anyone supporting their young person welcome on here. And that's fantastic about your DS. An 8 is a massive achievement.

EdWinchester Some good meals have been eaten out tonight (the restaurant industry must love results day!!!! And I'm really glad for you and for him that he did so well.

Ellapaella I know what you mean about Christmas. Especially that sense of the day being unique. I'm glad you've had a nice meal out too. 6s and 7s is A's and B's, which is fantastic. All these clever, hard working children on this thread! They've done so well.

Lipsofchicken let's cross our finger's that it's data protection (or something), and I hope you get the results that you hope for and your DS deserves. This thread will fade away now, but if you want to come back and report, I'll keep an eye out for you. x

Thank you again, everyone.

What a day!

Don't worry - I didn't feel excluded - I was just picking up on Bornto's comment about mums and waving the flag for dads in a lighthearted way!

Haggisfish · 23/08/2018 23:30

Lips-yes, it probably is gdpr. Our students all had to sign gdpr if they were happy for photos/names etc to be used as they collected results. Well done to everyone-I’m a teacher and am delighted for my students.

tumpymummy · 24/08/2018 00:13

Thanks keepserving for this thread on this auspicious day. You are right, it's not about who did the best, it's about whether your child is happy with their results. It's so nice that most children have done well. After all the uncertainty about these new exams I am so glad that the news was positive today.

Kezzie200 · 24/08/2018 07:10

How scary! Im sure its data protection though. I know a normal person with those grades wouldn't mind finding out from a paper but we know how shirty people can be nowadays.

Good luck for when he gets them!

WomanWise · 24/08/2018 09:54

@DadDad Well done to DS. I also have a reluctant Maths student, ds here. Its a hard slog as i'm sure you know. He's only in year 10 but praying to God he gets a 6 when his time comes so we can be over and done with it forever! so you're ds's 8 sounds absolutely bloody marvellous.

ReservoirDogs · 25/08/2018 11:43

Well done to everyone for having survived gcse results day. Just 2 years to A levels/BTECs etc. Time to save up for the posh bubbles!🍾🍾🥂
