Anyone else can't sleep? I didn't go to bed til 1ish last night, but I've already been awake over an hour.

DDog is horrified that I'm up so early (and it's raining here).

Where I am it's 2 hours til grade boundaries released (which I still don't totally understand, but we're hoping for low) and 3 hours til she gets her results. Kettle's on.

Well I was quite zen in a ‘what will be will be’ way but now today’s the day, I’m really nervous

I woke at 6 and couldn’t get back to sleep - DD is fast asleep.

She’s going in at 9 with her friends to pick them up - won’t let me go with her so I’ll be on tenterhooks until she decides to ring me

Good luck everyone!

JulianOfNorwich · 23/08/2018 07:12

Help me out? Why are we so excited waiting for the grade boundaries at 8????

Bombaybunty · 23/08/2018 07:13

@Solomonbitestheworm he needed a minimum of 3 A grades. There's also a complicated point system, he needed 51 and he has 56.
So he can stay where he is for 6th form, phew!

WhatHaveIFound · 23/08/2018 07:14

5 hours sleep for me as Dd (who's away) woke me with her results. Mostly as expected in most of them but a 4 in one of her A Level choices Sad

Whereismumhiding2 · 23/08/2018 07:15

Another mum whose been awake & up on and off here! DS is snoring quietly, I can hear him softly from outside his room.

I'm chuffed he wants me to take him to collect his results. 4 hours to go til 11am.

Thankyou so much to PP who put up picture of how numbers correspond to previous grades! Flowers

... Sooo a 6 is a B+, a 5 a B-/ high C and a 4 means C... And 7s or above are As.
That's bloody good to know.

Good luck to all our DC btw!!!

Putting kettle on again, washing machine is going and cats have been excitedly trying to trip me up & to keep refilling their bowls.... "miao miao miao more!!"

I'm a teacher. Awake and praying my kids get all their hard work rewarded.

Exact same here, Twinkle. But we can be on here.

Bombay That's great. Well done to your DS. Is it too early to crack open the fizz at yours?

I really love teachers who care enough that they're this excited. There are at least 2 of you on here. Flowers to teachers

Joining the gang, as teacher and parent! Not really slept. Had a look at online grade boundaries, panicking...

LuluJakey1 · 23/08/2018 07:20

DH has been at work since 6 - is Acting Head this year coming. They downloaded their results yesterday and they were down in Maths, up in English, down at the bottom end in Science and good in everything else except French which were dire.
But across the country they are not allowed to change by more than a miniscule percentage - might be 1%. If the school is decent they should not drop dramatically unless the school have got something really wrong. The biggest losers in all of this this year will be the most disadvantaged children. The gainers will be the least disadvantaged.

OzymandiasFanClub · 23/08/2018 07:21

Well... DS had ( and still has) terrible mental health problems throughout the last year. He starts medication tomorrow (only 16) while waiting to be referred back to CAMHS.
He's wasn't that interested in his exams so I am dreading today. There's no little glimmer of hope, that he might just have pulled it out of the bag, secretly aced it. I just need to get it over with, smiling at the other parents and pretending everything's Ok..

ElleMcFearsome · 23/08/2018 07:22

Pastoral manager here. I've had my year group from Yr 7 right the way through to Yr 11, and I've been awake most of the night worrying about them. They all worked SO hard through the exam period - I'm a about to head into school to be with them when they collect their results (not til 10 here, so a while to wait yet!) and I'm basically as nervous as I am when it was my DDs collecting theirs.

Coolaschmoola · 23/08/2018 07:23

Another teacher here! Just getting ready to go in and give results to my students.

Fingers crossed for you all!

LuluJakey1 · 23/08/2018 07:24

Ds (3) has gone with him to work 'to see the big boys and girls wif their geecees' - he is very excited. There are going to be balloons and cakes and photos and things.

WhatHaveIFound · 23/08/2018 07:24

KeepServing I'm hoping not as she has an unconditional sixth form place. Will have to speak to the new school later.

Gersemi · 23/08/2018 07:24

Gove is undoubtedly a cunt, but what has he got to do with grade boundaries?

LuluJakey1 · 23/08/2018 07:25

Hope it goes well for everyone.

Coolaschmoola · 23/08/2018 07:29

Ozymandias FlowersBrew

My students are all re-sitters. I teach GCSE English in FE.

Believe me when I say the only important thing is your DS's health. I have many, many students who have been in similar circumstances, and once their needs are managed they absolutely soar.

There are so many routes, GCSE at 16 is absolutely not as important as it is portrayed to be.

Unmumsnetty hugs x.

northender · 23/08/2018 07:29

Good luck to all today. Da had an awful time health wise from Dec 2017 right through to the exams (glandular fever & then a potential malignant tumour which had to be operated on but turned out to be ok thank goodness). I did all my worrying then & so feel quite chilled today. There's nothing I can do but be there for him, he is highly unlikely to get the grades he was predicted (7s & 8s) & I will be happy with anything 4 & above.

thegreylady · 23/08/2018 07:32

My dd is Head of English in a big comp and her line manager rang her yesterday morning with the results which were really good. Only 4 pupils didn’t get the expected grades in English.

ReservoirDogs · 23/08/2018 07:34

We were a 6am email household

4 x 9 inc Maths and Eng Lit
2 x 8 inc Eng Lang
3 x A*
2 x A
so very happy

LoniceraJaponica · 23/08/2018 07:36

Bombaybunty Having just come through to the other side of A levels with DD I would seriously get your DS to reconsider doing the A levels he got a C in. DD did A levels in subjects she got A* in and still found them hard.

itshappenedagain · 23/08/2018 07:36

I've been online checking our results since they opened at 6. I'm just getting ready to go in and see my students open them they worked incredibly hard and deserve the results they got.
I'm waiting to hear from my friends daughter to see how she did as I helped her with revision as her school weren't very supportive.
Good luck to all of those waiting for schools to open.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 23/08/2018 07:37

Where we are the Grades were done numerically last year. I believe maths and English were, Stars but not the other subjects.

So sorry to those of you who are going through more than just waiting for exam results.
