A song that really touched your soul?

I just stumbled upon a song on youtube for the first time and it made me feel so many emotions that i just cant explain.

The song was 'sailing' by Christopher Cross.

Creed - with arms wide open

PippilottaLongstocking · 16/08/2018 21:43

Literally any Keaton Henson song

Nick Cave - I need you

Leonard Cohen - Hey, that’s no way to say goodbye

LARLARLAND · 16/08/2018 21:44

Doesn’t it just GreenRut. It is so heartfelt and beautiful.

Small Town Southern Man by Alan Jackson
5 More Minutes by Scotty Mccreery
Had a lump in my throat the first time I heard both of these songs & every time I have heard them since

FermatsTheorem · 16/08/2018 21:46

Billie Holliday singing Strange Fruit. It was on the radio, I had never heard it before, had no idea what it was about, and was just floored by it.

@DiamondsInTheMud I've seen Passenger sing Sound Of Silence live three times now and it's utterly mesmerising. I love him anyway but he does nail it. The Long Road speaks to my soul. The last lines make me howl. And Whispers. And Scare Away The Dark. Oh I just love him.

Hans Zimmer, Time from the film Inception.
I played it over and over after the birth of my daughter. So perfect as the backdrop of such an enormous life event.

NapQueen · 16/08/2018 21:49

Creep.

Colourblind.

Nothing compares 2u.

Immortality.

I think the title is “ Find Your Love in Everything” by Beth Neilson Chapman - it was in the film “ The Calendar Girls”. The first time I heard it, I had to pull over because I couldn’t see for crying.

One more light by linkin park

I was driving home having just been with family after the sudden and unexpected death of my dad and this came on. I'd never heard it before but I sobbed my heart out.

annandale · 16/08/2018 21:55

The right song at the right time - a long day, at an extremely low ebb and I heard and found it incredibly comforting in a bleak way.

EastMidsGPs · 16/08/2018 21:55

@ForalltheSaints

Some Fantastic Place is one if my funeral songs
Maxine must have been some woman for her to be held in such affection and regard by Chris and Glenn - but then she did bring them together.
DH and I have just read Chris's autobiography Some fantastic place
(me meh, DH enjoyed it) Maxine is mentioned a lot in it.

Specifically the lyrics;
'When the nurses they came,
Said it's come back again.
I wasn't expecting that.
The you closed your eyes,
You took my heart by surprise,
I wasn't expecting that.'
By Jamie Lawson.

I had just lost a close family member to a secondary cancer that was discovered when it was already terminal. It summed up the situation with such simplicity and pain that I had to pull over on my morning commute and have a sob. It made me think of all the other people that it might be true for too and made my heart break.

Communards - for a friend

Baz luhrman- sunscreen

Rihanna - shine bright like a diamond

Many tears! particularly the communards song

Accountant222 · 16/08/2018 22:22

Until the night - Billy Joel

November Rain - Guns n roses

LiveatCityHall · 16/08/2018 22:28

The original version of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. It is a heart wrenching song about Trent Reznor's struggle with addiction. Unfortunately Johnny Cash changed the lyrics when he covered it which changes the meaning somewhat for me.

Also Love of my Life and You're My Best Friend by Queen.

Fatbelliedgirl · 16/08/2018 22:29

Break Your Heart - Natalie Merchant.

BawbagBiggins · 16/08/2018 22:30

The Book of Love - Peter Gabriel and
The Luckiest - Ben Folds are both my favourite favourites, closely followed by Both Sides Now - the version from Love Actually, not the jingly jangly version of her youth.

Poocalypso · 16/08/2018 22:34

Song and videoclip: Fiona Apple Not about love! Stunningly heartstoppingly good:

Fatbelliedgirl · 16/08/2018 22:35

Liberian Girl - Michael Jackson

LighthouseSouth · 16/08/2018 22:36

She Went Quietly - Charlie Winston

for me, the version you hear is very important - the last word is crucial and he doesn't always sing it this way

someone mentioned George Michael December Song. It's a good thing that came out when I was too old to care, because that song sums up my childhood Christmases frankly!

furrymuff · 16/08/2018 22:37

A few for me...

Angel by Sarah McLachlan - DH heard it for the first time a few weeks back and said to me "why does this song make me cry?" - I've not known him be emotional over a song in 30 years!

Wonderful by Everclear - instantly transports me back to my mum telling me that she and my dad were getting divorced.

Good Riddance (Time of your Life) by Green Day - my funeral song! I don't think I've ever loved a song more...

And finally, Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton - as soon as I hear "and the wonder of it all, is that you just don't realise how much I love you" I am in pieces.

Ymamiss · 16/08/2018 22:41

Alter Bridge - In loving memory

Bakingberry · 16/08/2018 22:42

Sullivan Street by Counting Crows

SouthernComforts · 16/08/2018 22:46

This cover

And the first time Adele sang someone like you at the brits.
