A song that really touched your soul?

I just stumbled upon a song on youtube for the first time and it made me feel so many emotions that i just cant explain.

The song was 'sailing' by Christopher Cross.

White flag by Dido gets me every time.

Agree with Hallelujah Jeff Buckley and Nothing Compares 2 U.

Also Luka by Suzanne Vega and Old Red Eyes is Back by Beautiful South. Both make me teary!

This Woman's Work by Kate Bush (I see I'm not the only one!).

The Colliers by Seth Lakeman. About the Gresford colliery disaster. I found it really powerful the first time I heard it.

And lastly, Me and a Gun by Tori Amos. I've only listened to it a couple of times since, I find it too powerful.

(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding

When he recorded it he hadn’t written the lyrics to the last verse so whistled it.

End of the recording day waved goodbye to his pals and said see you next week. Died in a plane crash the next day.

Fantastic song sung by one of the all time greats. Lump in my throat every time I hear it.

Warrior, covered by Connie Talbot. Originally by Demi Lovato. I heard it at a time when I just really identified with it and cried every time I listened to it. I'm pretty sure it's about child abuse.

Flares by The Script has the power to move me to tears as well. I find a lot of their songs tend to be scarily perceptive.

TheMarrowOfTime · 16/08/2018 20:07

Comfortably Numb also does it for me. Pink Floyd, not the Scissor Sisters abomination.

SisyphusDad · 16/08/2018 20:10

'Send in the clowns', sung by Judi Dench. The emotion she wrings out of every single word is overpowering.

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 16/08/2018 20:22

Oh god too many.... Winter by Tori Amos, Skyline Pigeon by Elton John, Birdy's version of Skinny Love, Everything Must Change by Paul Young, Streets of London Ralph McTell, Those Were The Days by Mary Hopkin. All leave my mascara running for varying reasons...

No one leaves you
When you live in their heart and mind
And no one dies
They just move to the other side
When we're gone
Watch the world simply carry on
We live on laughing and in no pain
We'll stay and be happy
With those who have loved us today

Thank You - Destiny's Child. Not religious at all this is spine tingling. Kids know all the words by heart as I always used to play it in the car - massively reduced my road rage Grin.

Oo also I'm yours by The Script ando Stop Crying your heart out by Oasis

DuggeesWoggle · 16/08/2018 21:02

I love these threads, I'm sitting here with phone in one hand reading about the songs and my tablet on my lap frantically youtubing them.

I remember being about 15, sitting doing my homework and A Design For Life came on by Manic Street Preachers and the world just literally stopped. I wanted it to go on forever but also wanted it to end so I could find out what it was! From then on I was a Manics nut, although I haven't bought anything of theirs for years.

Pretty much anything by Elbow gets me all tingly, especially Magnificent, Scattered Black and Whites (memories of putting it on full blast while drunk around age 22, just lying there in the dark soaking it all up).

I remember driving back from the hospital in early 2011 from seeing my dying Nana in that bitterly cold winter. My grandad had died only a few weeks before Christmas. Everywhere I Go by Lissie (the acoustic album version) came on the radio and I just blubbed all the way home.

So many songs and albums take me straight back to a particular time or event. Elbow albums remind me of driving through the Highlands of Scotland on holidays. Nice memories to have Smile

TheMarrowOfTime · 16/08/2018 21:03

How could I have forgotten, the adagio from Concierto de Aranjuez! It was incidental music on the radio when I was a child, something my dad listened to in the car when he drove me to school, Pause For Thought or something like that. It made me cry then when I was 5 and it still does now.
