A song that really touched your soul?

I just stumbled upon a song on youtube for the first time and it made me feel so many emotions that i just cant explain.

The song was 'sailing' by Christopher Cross.

Have you seen this version? It was shown in NI in the early nineties.

Hurt by Johnny Cash

Bineverywhere · 16/08/2018 06:46

@yoghurty I came to say the A&TJ song and I thought nobody would've heard of it. It blew me away.

Vitalogy · 16/08/2018 06:58

I love the sailing song too. "all caught up in the reverie"

There's lots but Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, makes me sob, every time! And the video with him and June, dear me. "you can have it all, my empire of dirt"

Moby - When it's cold id like to die

countingto10 · 16/08/2018 07:20

No sashh I hadn’t seen that before (not sure if it was shown outside of NI/Ireland?) - but a very powerful film.

Apparently the song was written originally as a poem by Chapin’s wife about her first husband’s awkward relationship with his father (a former politician) but there’s probably a lesson for all of us in there to make more time for our children and to be actually there for them and with them rather than doing housework, mumsnetting etc. I know I have been guilty of being too busy to play games etc with them in the past and they grow up so quickly (DS2 collecting a level results today.....)

Blink 182 - Down

Slipping through my fingers - Abba

Having lost my own mum, and being a mum of two rapidly growing daughters, it touches a sensitive nerve

What happened to the wonderful adventures
The places I had planned for us to go
Well, some of that we did but most we didn't
And why I just don't know

Afire Love - Ed Sheeran
A Thousand Years - Christina Perri
Faded - Alan Walker
Chariots Of Fire - Vangelis

This Years' Love by David Gray. I met my now husband after an aweful divorce, this song just said everything about what I needed a new relationship to be. Still makes me cry and we've been married over 16 years now.

matchalatte · 16/08/2018 07:30

Writings on the wall by Sam Smith.
Chris Evans played it (its first airing in 2015) on his radio show when I was driving home from night shift. It's stunned me, never felt like with a song before. I think it just caught me in my tired/emotional post night shift zone, but I'll never forget the way I felt hearing it that morning.

afishnotabird · 16/08/2018 07:33

@JeremiahBackflip I came on to say Geraldine. A bottle of wine, Glasvegas and a good cry is as cathartic as it comes.

My Immortal by Evanescence....still stops me in my tracks when I hear it

Also, a song some of you might not know (very American band), but by one of my favourite bands is Overcome by Live. It was playing on a New York radio station when the twin towers came down and it became a kind of memorial anthem. I had heard the song before 9.11 and it was so beautiful and haunting before this connection... m.youtube.com/watch?v=sXakKv02T5k

I saw it once on, I think, Tarrant on TV where they showed TV from around the world.

There was a documentary on recently showing the other adverts and when they were shown, starting in the 1970s up until the referendums on the Good Friday Agreement, really interesting, apart from one featuring the actor who played Billy Mitchell, which was really distracting.

prampushingdownthehighst · 16/08/2018 08:18

Shine a light by the Stones.
Heard it years ago and it made me stop what I was doing and I wasn't very old at the time.
When I read about the background and how it was written with Brian Jones in mind it really made me well up.
It's a fabulous song
"Angels beating their wings in time"

DrZoidbergsTentacles · 16/08/2018 08:25

This haunts me: Madrugada, Majesty:

IamPickleRick · 16/08/2018 08:27
