Taylor Kennedy does have a nice ring to it. Buying a compound does sound a tad bit too enthusiastic stalkery though. Being called out for an age gap sucks however, unless he was a minor, it so very rarely happens to blokes, even when it is a minor (Bill Wyman). Did Bradley Cooper get much stick for his fauxmance young girlfriend?

kitchenunit · 20/06/2016 20:31

Hahaha Dale. No, that's not right.

And peinlich simply is a direct translation for "embarrassing"

Sorry

nilbyname · 20/06/2016 20:32

His boxers are a little bit baggy! Jesus wept, put him in pants that bloody fit or else he likes like a sad grandad in flappy old pants!

My eyes my eyes!!!!!

GloriaGaynor · 20/06/2016 20:38

'peinlich' which means so butt-clenchingly embarrassing it's almost painful

Ace. I'm using that.

I agree Hiddleston was fine in Hollow Crown. It's the bid for stardom that's misbegotten.

TheAntiBoop · 20/06/2016 20:45

Dh has confirmed kitchen unit is correct. Peinlich is just embarrassing.

Unless Germans have a very different threshold for embarrassment of course!!

DaleMaily · 20/06/2016 20:46

Dammit kitchen!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 20/06/2016 20:50

I would use 'aufschieben' / 'auf die lange Bank schieben' Dale but I'm not sure the blame nuance is there (procrastinate implies the person is putting off doing something through apathy/laziness rather than just taking a raincheck (verschieben).
How would you translate procrastinator kitchen? it's more Faulpelz than Zauderer/Zögerer, surely? (I will be having words with my German friend, she compared peinlich with Fawlty Towers level of cringe, dammit!) ;-)

GloriaGaynor · 20/06/2016 21:06

My German's not good but pein means pain/torment/agony, so it's embarrassing in the sense of painful no?

GloriaGaynor · 20/06/2016 21:07

(I didn't know peinlich meant embarrassing, I would have guessed it just meant painful)

kitchenunit · 20/06/2016 21:14

Straightforward "pain" is simply "Schmerz". I have never heard of "Pein" used on its own - apparently it means "agony".

I have to admit Kimmy Ive never had to use "procrastinate" in german! My Pons Wortebuch (rarely consulted) has "Zögern" or "Zaudern". I'll try it in a sentence tomorrow Smile

German dh said he would use peinlich in 'i'm embarrassed I forgot to call you back'

Which suggests it isn't painfully strong or he is very easily embarrassed to a painful level!

kitchenunit · 20/06/2016 21:20

Yup I would say "peinlich " for example for forgetting something.

To be ashamed of yourself is "sich schämen" which seems apt enough here.

To get back to TH, he certainly looks like a Schattenparker or Vorabendeinschecker in those photos (ask your DH) Smile

Donatellalymanmoss · 20/06/2016 21:23

I don't normally click on daily mail links but have to say TH looks better with his clothes on.

For the sake of balance here is CH in his pants.

TheAntiBoop · 20/06/2016 21:44

He hasn't lived in Germany for so long he isn't down with the slang so didn't know the second one

Schattenparker agreed though!!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 20/06/2016 21:45

Definitely a Sitzpinkler then! ;-)

Has CH been photoshopped? That's one ripped body.

DaleMaily · 20/06/2016 21:46

Yes, that's much better. You're supposed to go "phwoar", not "erm, wtf, are you wearing Jeremy paxman's pants?"

TheAntiBoop · 20/06/2016 21:47

Off point but mil was a feminist activist in the seventies and encouraging your sons to be a sitzpinkler was very much a feminist issue and about respect

GloriaGaynor · 20/06/2016 21:54

I'd imagine pein, pain and French peine are related. The French means punishment or sentence, sorrow/grief or pain/trouble.

The English and French are derived from Latin poena meaning penalty/punishment/pain. I assume the German as well, although I think there's less Latin in German.

Anyway back to pants, Calvin definitely looks better in his. Tom's conversation is probably slightly more interesting, but unfortunately that doesn't outweigh the starfucking Eau de desperation.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 20/06/2016 22:02

Really?! Excellent. Will tell DP. :-)
I guess being a Sitzpinkler avoids the twee ''If you sprinkle when you tinkle please be neat and wipe the seat'' signs. the 70s just called and want their signs back
I am toilet training DS atm. It's not going well. The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.
Do you want see Tom juggle his balls?
Here you go...

TheAntiBoop · 20/06/2016 22:04

I was going to watch it but the rictus grin put me off

AmericanPastoral · 20/06/2016 22:10

Tom seems like such a nice guy .

raisedbyguineapigs · 20/06/2016 22:31

CH in his pants has made me go over all unnecessaryGrin Why did anyone let TH pose in those plain baggy boxers? They look like his mum bought them!

GloriaGaynor · 20/06/2016 22:39

I actually can't watch anything with him now, which is a shame as I haven't seen the Night Manager yet.

At the weekend I rented the Deep Blue Sea by Rattigan, as I was under the impression it was Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig. To my horror it turned out to be Hiddlestoppit, so I couldn't watch.

DaleMaily · 20/06/2016 22:39

I love MN. Both this thread and the one about flirting with a minor celebrity descended into discussions about language, although the latter has more Latin.

I hate that to be successful as an actor these days you have to give so much of yourself away. Yes these videos are funny but there's nothing hidden any more and chat show researchers dredge up everything from their past. How can they have longevity in their careers if we know everything?
