Agree with raised.

expatinscotland · 16/06/2016 19:00

TH's head looks like a tattie on a stick. Eddie Redmayne . . . there are just no words other than . . . ewwww.

Worcswoman · 16/06/2016 19:05

I don't deserve this abuse and will leave Mumsnet. I wasn't being racist. It's not racist to say that a character has been established as this or that. I'm not good at fighting bullies and Mumsnet has been fun while I've been desperately depressed. I did try to post a longer reply giving the courtesy of a reasoned response to those that took the time to reason with me instead of just knee-jerk abuse. To those people thank you and I'm sorry the device didn't work and I lost it. I'll go back to giving up. Fighting is futile. I can't fight the world.

PoonamiMum · 16/06/2016 19:06

Loving your work here folks.

Apart from the bit where you destroyed TH for me. I'd only ever seen him in the Night Manager and then...... I saw him dance.....

As much as I dearly want to shag admire Idris he's not Bond for me. He's too one dimensional and shouty.

TheCraicDealer · 16/06/2016 19:13

"I'll go back to giving up. Fighting is futile. I can't fight the world." [exit stage right]

Bond auditions are next door, luv.

expatinscotland · 16/06/2016 19:15

Oh, okay, it's abuse to point out it's racist to state that Bond can't be 'black or low born', even though he's been played by an Irishman and a Jewish man. Hmm

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 16/06/2016 19:17

Which one was Jewish? I didn't know. Not that it matters but I am nosey.

He's also been played by an Australian but we don't really talk about that travesty.

ManonLescaut · 16/06/2016 19:18

And a Scotsman... We've almost got a joke her.e

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 16/06/2016 19:18

I meant the portrayal was a travesty because it was bad. The fact he was an Australian was not relevant beyond being a point of interest.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 16/06/2016 19:21

I don't really know why I have so many opinions about Bond Confused

I went with dh to see the latest one in the cinema and spent most of the time snorting derisively at the tired old cliches and ridiculousness of it all.

And yet, I care very much that it's not TH because he is All Wrong.

PropertyWidow · 16/06/2016 19:28

With Bond, it's very hard to pin down who he should be, but you know instantly who he shouldn't be. I'd like his next incarnation to be a bit rougher, more in temperament like the books.

PoonamiMum · 16/06/2016 19:29

I didn't have an opinion about Bond until I saw DC in his blue swimmers.

Then I suddenly became very interested.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 16/06/2016 19:30

"I don't deserve this abuse and will leave Mumsnet."

What abuse? Being pulled up on racism is hardly abuse. Hmm

PoonamiMum · 16/06/2016 19:31

An odd turn of phrase.

Sounds like "I liked this product and would recommend it to a friend"

Just5minswithDacre · 16/06/2016 19:37

Low born?!? WTF?

NickiFury · 16/06/2016 20:15

Huge Guilt Plop right there Hmm

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 16/06/2016 20:18

I didn't know that that Tom was gay.
Tiddles is an excellent name.
Aidan Turner will be the new Bond.
Clive Owen is the best Bond that sadly Never Was (see Shoot 'em up)
I'm sorry worcwoman that you have been depressed and that you lost your longer reply (happens to me a lot, always annoying)...many have waded into that debate (Yaphet Kotto/Pierce Brosnan both said the film canon = white actor, Horrowitz claimed 'suave' was more important than 'street' but Daniel's casting went against that with the reboot. Many arguments for and against casting choices same as whenever there's a new Who Tardis.
Salon gave nine reasons for a black actor to play James: one of which was James Bond is a symbol and Bond is bigger than Bond, so a decent actor can take that role and smash it plus the character has changed as the politics change.
All that aside, I think they'll go with Aidan.
I haven't seen Luther but believe Idris can do suave. The fact that he looks like he can handle himself is a plus. But I am cynical regarding whether the producers do colourblind casting: I think they will save the Black bond reboot for when the franchise is in trouble again.

PropertyWidow · 16/06/2016 20:39

Aiden Turner, don't know much about him. Was he in a recent Agatha Christie? He's definitely got the chest hair for the job!

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2016 20:42

But Aidan Turner is.......from Dublin.....and he's.............working class Shock Shock

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2016 20:43

(THAT'S A JOKE BY THE WAY)

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 16/06/2016 20:43

That's him.

  1. Being human played a vampire
  2. Poldark reboot
  3. And then there were none
MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2016 20:47

I bet the BBC will be fuming if Aidan swans off to be Bond. They want to tie him to another 467 series of Poldark. Series 234 - 456 will just be footage of him scything.

Had a good Google and I can see him in the role. Has a slight brooding quality and a big plus in his favour is that he's not that well known and doesn't seem to have embarked on any questionable romantic/pr type liaisons...

TheSpottedZebra · 16/06/2016 21:10

That's him.
1. Being human played a vampire
2. Poldark reboot

  1. BUT TOO SHORT
ScrambledSmegs · 16/06/2016 21:13

He's taller than Daniel Craig...
