How ignorant Idris would be a far better bond than Hiddleston. I think he'd bring something new to the role and not because he's black.

Bond needs some forcefulness, like Connery. Tom has none of that but Idris has buckets. And is there a competition for how many public school boys we know?!

James Bond is an upper class British gentleman. I know the type; public school, Oxbridge then straight into the foreign office or the military. James Bond isn't black or low born. He just isn't.

Not quite-read the original books. James Bond is not posh, though he isn't "low-born" (by the way, the seventeenth century rang, it wants its horrid expression back). He has got a Scottish father and a Swiss mother and grew up abroad, making him unclassifiable and something of an outsider to the British class system.

That's the Fleming Bond. The film Bond can be anything the producers want him to be. In much the same way that people put on Shakespeare plays with e.g. black and Asian actors in whatever roles they fancy.

For the record Idris Elba is my #1 choice for Bond. Manly and masterful he most certainly is.

Bond didn't wear a toupee (like Sean Connery) either. But that didn't seem to matter, cos, you know.. acting.

Bond should be sort of coldly menacing and yet look like he smells amazing. Having seen that utter debacle from the Met ball there is no way that is it.

Bond does not smell of desperation. He used to smell of Brute but these days it's probably something insanely expensive and exclusive from Miller Harris.

worcswoman The ethnic origin of Bond has no bearing on the story. He is meant to be a spy. Like undercover, so he could be anyone. The story of Othello would make no sense if he was white, as the story is about his ethnic origin and the differences between him and every one else in the play. It's a stupid comparison and the Othello argument, when raised by white male actors makes then look ignorant and racist. I wonder why?
