Eating Disorder Recovery

I'm documenting my journey to try and recover from an eating disorder over the year. I know I'm not alone in this struggle, so thought I'd share my experiences.

Hi.

Perfectlypurple · 11/04/2014 08:37

Try again

Im doing ok thanks. Got some bigger work trousers so although upsetting I feel better and less self conscious at work which is good.

I feel better with the pressure off. Some good days some bad days but trying to not binge if I have something bad and so far doing better than I was. Ihave a year to beat this so glad I have given myself a bit of time.

Unregulated profession...therefore no knowledge or expertise...dangerous for me to be giving advice Hmm....

Purple is there something you could look to achieve/master this year (unrelated to weight/eating habits)? Like Fighting has her race, is there anything you could do? It doesn't have to be physical, could be anything...photography, singing, creative writing, or possibly some volunteer work? I'm guessing here but *fighting' I suspect the fact that through your blog and this thread you are helping others, that in turn is helping you too?

Doh, sorry, on phone with dodgy reception!

Perfectlypurple · 11/04/2014 12:41

sleep I did start to learn a language but cost has stopped me for now. I am facing redundancy so can't commit to that. Once I get some time I will give it some thought. Something physical would probably be a good thing really. But not a major thing maybe a 5k race to start with. I will have a look at anything coming up.

Perfectlypurple · 11/04/2014 12:42

And yes this thread helps.

FightingBed2014 · 11/04/2014 14:55

Sleep is there some course I need to be going on that I have somehow missed? You know the one that every single MN member must have done before giving advice on the site?Wink

FightingBed2014 · 11/04/2014 15:01

meant to say, yes this thread and the blog help me massively! I didn't even realise until this morning, that I didn't eat anything after dinner last night! That's rare but given my emotional state yesterday, it's pretty significant. I split my time between MN and the blog instead without a second thought.

ApricotExpat · 11/04/2014 15:12

Wow. In the same place completely. Will return...

FightingBed2014 · 11/04/2014 15:30

Hi apricot Smile

Sleepwhenidie · 11/04/2014 16:02

fighting, yes god forbid anyone should advise anyone on healthy eating and how they might feel a bit better about themselves and life in general without first ensuring they are a member of a regulated body Smile.

Welcome Apricot Smile

Purple 5k sounds fab but be kind to your knees Wink

FightingBed2014 · 11/04/2014 16:04

stay out of kiddie play areas too. Going down the stupid slide (loads) to keep up wiyh DC2 is what did my back in.Blush smacks head on desk

Perfectlypurple · 11/04/2014 16:26

I will sleep the road running won't start until I have got some weight off.

FightingBed2014 · 12/04/2014 15:33

sleep I found the post in eating disorders. I left my contibution. I've got my new classes lined up at the gym, trying first one tomorrow. It's kind of like yoga but it mentioned rehab and prevention of injury in the description. Will let you know how it goes.

Jokers hope things have settled for you and back to normal. hapiness.x

purple I love that you're still talking about giving yourself a year. Even if your not feeling great about it yet, things will change gradually. x

Hope everyone else is having a good wknd.

Perfectlypurple · 12/04/2014 16:06

I keep telling myself that being overweight doesn't make me a bad/lesser person. If I keep telling myself that then maybe one day I will believe it. :)

FightingBed2014 · 12/04/2014 16:14

We have grown up in a society that wants us to feel that at times. It definitely doesn't make you any of those things.x

Sleepwhenidie · 12/04/2014 23:47

fighting Smile, thank you for your comments on the other thread, I appreciate it, but I suspect it may not stop there Smile, please don't go getting into an argument on my account if that's the case will you. I really hope the OP comes here or at least back.

Purple, Fighting is right, the judgement that surrounds people's weight (particularly women's) is like a cultural sickness that we all need to overcome. The worst of it is that we are usually our own most vicious critic, our perception of our own body is so much worse than anyone else's. Finding a kinder, more positive voice is helpful. Repeating 'it doesn't make me bad/lesser' is good, but finding actual positives to reaffirm are more so....find those things, whether they are aspects about your appearance/abilities/strengths that you are proud of or like, or compliments you have been paid by others. Whenever you hear the negative comment in your head "my bum looks big" for example, stop, catch yourself and say (out loud..if it's not going to make you look like a nutter Wink), 'my hair is gorgeous" or "this dress looks great on me". Do you have DC's? Whether you do or don't, one very effective way to think about this is to speak to yourself as you would your own little girl or perhaps your best friend if you heard her making the harsh, critical comments....what would you say to them? Smile

JokersGiggle · 13/04/2014 20:21
