You know better than me what works in terms of getting things to sell, but I suspect charging more for bigger cards is a good thing. Could you start at the prices you first suggested and then do BOGOF (or buy 2 get a 3rd free) if you wnat to shift them at the end of the evening?

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 22:22

Possibly. Have put some pics on profile. Have got 33 cards at the moment. It's quite a small group so I thought I'd call it a day at 50 Confused!

IWantSantasNewToyInMyStocking · 05/12/2011 22:25

Friday is good for me Spiro.

SuperXmassiveLBD · 05/12/2011 22:27

Those cards look like real ones, Spiro! Xmas Grin

Very professional indeed.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/12/2011 22:30

They look lovely, Spiro.

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 22:39

ROFL at 'look like real ones!' Grin

It's all in the layout with these. Fortunately I had lots of stuff already as have bought things when I've seen them but not actually had time to make anything for the last couple of years. I used to do most crafts, rubber stamping, heat embossing, iris folding, cross stitch - I've even got a gadget for hot-fixing Swarovski crystals knocking about somewhere!

Alas work took over, and lately the writing. I was debating sticking it all on eBay in the New Year but it's been fun doing it with Miss S now she's older so will probably hang on to it all for the mo.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/12/2011 22:46

I learnt paper embossing (not heat embossing) at the last course I did - I never realised that it takes about five seconds per card!

SuperXmassiveLBD · 05/12/2011 22:46

Nice that you can spend time with her, like that, Spiro.

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 22:52

I was pleasantly surprised Massive - it's been a long time since I've attempted to do anything like that with her for fear of crushing my hands flat or biting right the way through my tongue!

Paper embossing 5 seconds per card? I must be doing it wrong!

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 22:55

Not sure if this will work but these are some of the cards I made back in the day...

SuperXmassiveLBD · 05/12/2011 22:56

Maybe she's growing up, Spiro!

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 22:58

Oh, yes - she's definitely growing up - her favourite colour is lilac now, not pink! Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/12/2011 23:01

This is the basic paper embossing with a template/stencil and (in effect) pushing the paper through with the end of a pencil or similar. There'ss probably a demonstration on YT if you know the right search terms, .

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 23:05

I know what you mean Maud - it just always seems to take me ages!

Have you ever tried Pergamano?

SuperXmassiveLBD · 05/12/2011 23:05

ROFL @ super-sophisticated lilac. Xmas Grin

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 23:07

I'm told it's a phase most little girls go through between the ages of about 7-9.

I didn't actually have a pink bedroom until I was 18!

SuperXmassiveLBD · 05/12/2011 23:07

Huh?!! Whatever is that vid meant to show?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/12/2011 23:10

That very short vid shows how you can use a brass template (or one you've made yourself out of a cardboard box, actually) to make an embossed card. Three lucky people will be getting an embossed Christmas card this year made by my own fair hands.

The Girl is slightly older than MissSpiro and has recently abandoned lilac in favour of turquoise and (she has just announced) teal. Ooh get her.

SuperXmassiveLBD · 05/12/2011 23:12

I still l haven't achieved a pink bedroom Xmas Angry

TBH, now I'm more afterr a natural granite look with some of that fake flame lighting and some escutcheons on the wall for a colour accent.

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 23:14

With the exception of a year or two of Victoria Plum, my mum's preference for all things peach and beige reined supreme until I was about 13 and wangled a red, black and white makeover.

Have been blue and yellow or cream for pretty much my entire adult life and am getting thoroughly bored with it now.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/12/2011 23:16

::Snort:: at Massive's philosophy of interior design.

::Refrains from mentioning that much of Gizzy's chateau is quite obviously made of polystyrene and would blow over in bad weather::

I just had to google to see what Pergamano was. It looks far too fiddly for me. Generally, I just buy nice cards to do the calligraphy in, but the latest teacher showed us a few quick and easy ways to make our own.

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 23:21

It is fiddly - lovely results but far too long-winded for me, have done it a few times, but isn't much good when you're trying to produce lots of cards to sell.

I worked briefly in a craft shop where someone have made and 18 inch high freestanding Eiffel Tower out of the stuff! Shock

SuperXmassiveLBD · 05/12/2011 23:21

Of course I shall need a conversation piece or two as well.

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 05/12/2011 23:26

Wow - that's a brilliant pic!
