4.30am start here, FFS

LadyD, I went to a launch party for some Robson & Jerome album many moons ago. I don't really know which is which but the pretty one wasn't there, which was a shame.

So following on from the conversation about early records, what were people's first records? The first one I bought by myself was Gold by Spandau Ballet (that makes me sound younger than I am but Dad used to tape stuff off the Top 40 on Sundays so never occurred to me to buy a record). But before that my brother and I saved up out pocket money and bought between us :o

The first records I literally went out and bought for myself were 7" singles of Heartache by Pepsi & Shirley and something by 5 Star but I can't remember what at the mo!

Top of the Pops were v. cheesetastic, but my mum bought those for me when I was about 4 - 6 yrs old, so I knew no better and still have them somewhere

I finally got round to buying a stylus for our record player about 3 years ago and love staying up late playing all my old vinyl.

4.30am Twigs? Bleeeeuuurgh! It's your busy day today too, isn't it?

Russianpony · 26/09/2011 08:10

Morning.

Poor you Twigs - I should have posted while I was awake between 3-4.30 - might have crossed paths!!!Grin Hope you manage to survive the day.

Hopefully BBL to catch up on these fabulous tunes, but the first record I bought for myself was Phantom of the Opera ::very cultured childhood::Grin

I was bought before that a record called Top of the Tots - can't for the life of me recognise the album cover from this though!!

I used to listen to Classical music and even now have no idea who most people singing songs are - just what I like.

Suppose that means I may appeal to the cello/flute-playing cultured side of Our Man!!Grin

Russianpony · 26/09/2011 08:14

OMG it was this one!!! It came out before I was even born. I was given a 2nd hand present![sob]Sad[no-one loved me as a child]WinkGrin

LadyDamerel · 26/09/2011 09:33

True Blue by Madonna was my first album. I remember my dad being a bit funny about Like a Virgin because I was about 7 at the time. I also had Now That's What I Call Music 4 (I think), it would have been about 1985.

One of the earliest songs I associate with my childhood . I sing it to the MiniDs at bedtime now.

PassTheTwiglets · 26/09/2011 10:20

Mondays are ok now Spiro, as have successfully managed to get MissTwigs to stay at school for lunch, hurrah! So only 3 trips to school and back now, not 5 like it used to be! She is like a different child with school, it's such a relief. Only took 5 years :) We didn't do anything different, I think she's just got that bit older and more self-confident, so i shappier to be away from me (she's always a bit behind her peers, emotionally-speaking). I hope I'm not jinxing it all by saying this, as we've had good periods before and then it all went to pot, but she really does seem different this time.

RP, how come you were awake, was it the MiniPonies?

I've just done loads of Christmas shopping :)

Not sure why I was awake, Twigs - sometimes have nights when I can't sleep - I think it is a side effect of my happy tablets! But I'm too scared to drop the dose as when I did that a few months ago, life went pear-shaped again and I hate that feeling of lack of control and desolation. I still remember when I first went on happy tablets, suddenly turning to my friend and saying "I feel happy! There is no obvious reason why I should be happy - I just am!". Turns out normal people feel happy for no reason quite often!!Grin Just wish I hadn't fought it so long and gone back on them sooner while the Colonel was sunbathing in his desert and not being shot at all!

Anyway........has Twigirl just started school then? I can't imagine Russiancolt actually starting next september - in my mind he is still my baby, but the Colonel says I must let him grow up!Sad

Right girls - came to a decision over last few weeks that I'm going to retake up my reflexology - so I need lots of encouragement and nagging to make sure I'm doing it! I trained last year and then didn't do anything with it, but now I feel I'm going to give it a go -even if I only get a few clients it will still be a bit of money in the pot to spend on RA artifacts!

ps still spent all of Spooks expecting Lucas to reappear - it is just not the same without him Sad

PassTheTwiglets · 26/09/2011 10:38

Have you tried taking your happy pills at a different time of day, RP? If you're taking them just before bed then taking them in the morning might help. They are quite fabulous, aren't they? :) I was on them for 2 years and came off earlier in the year.

MissTwigs is in Year 4 but she's always harted going to school until now. TwigBoy and SmallBoyMinor are starting next September so your littlest will be starting with them!

Reflexology sounds like something that would fit in very easily with have little ones as presumably you can book clients for a time that suits you? Good luck!

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 26/09/2011 10:39

hated, not harted. That typo makes it sound like the complete opposite of my intent!

OP posts:
Russianpony · 26/09/2011 10:47

Already take them in the morning Twigs! Maybe I should try bedtime Hmm, then maybe I wouldn't have this overwhelming urge for an afternoon nap if I ever allow myself to sit down!HmmGrin

Right - just started taking my reflexology notes out and I'm already scared - what if I've forgotten everything???! Most of the notes are also quite badly damaged by our flood back at Christmas! Must keep going! It should be something I can work around the children - hence why I thought I'd train in it (although I was also completely fascinated by it all - being a very sceptical scientist about it all!)

Poor MissTwigs - was she being bullied or anything? Russianfilly has had good times and bad at school - particularly just after we've moved her - it's so hard seeing them unhappy at school. Sometimes wonder about home-educating, but then realise that I must be mad and I'd kill them, if not myself with my lack of patience!!Grin

PassTheTwiglets · 26/09/2011 11:03

I was very close to home-educating, RP. Still fascinated with it but won't do it now. Well, 99% sure :) No, she wasn't bullied or anything - she just had separation problems and missed me and home too much. Must be very tough for RussianFilly, having to move a lot :(

OP posts:
Russianpony · 26/09/2011 11:29

Russiancolt is showing signs of that - he loves being at home and being with me (but then who wouldn't cos I'm ace!Grin). But he seems to getting better at nursery, but not sure how he'll be when it's every day all day! He really loves his "not nursery" days!Smile

Russianpony · 26/09/2011 13:26

Argh!!!! Just missed Pilates as I was too engrossed in watching real life RA clips on YouTube - help I've definitely got it bad at the moment!!!Smile

He seems such a lovely, but quite shy person in real life - think we'd probably scare him half to death if he ever did meet any of us stalkers students!

Russianpony · 26/09/2011 13:38

But I found . I feel she wasted her opportunity and was far too controlled I would have giggled like a silly school girlGrin

Russianpony · 26/09/2011 13:43

Since I'm here alone, I'm off to get a coffee Brew

TheSmallPrint · 26/09/2011 14:31

help!

Russianpony · 26/09/2011 14:34

Why you need help, Small? Are my inane bumblings to myself slowly killing you off?Grin

I've now registered and enquired about insurance, so thanks ladies for getting me through my day of paperwork sanely even if none of you were actually around in my time- of need--!Grin

SupermassiveLBD · 26/09/2011 14:40

BBL, I am running late - so what else is new? Sad

Chin up, Small, hope you are okay.

DumSpiroSpero · 26/09/2011 14:48

For the non Tweeters a little titbit about RA getting his head around Lucas North becoming John Bateman (by 'Ruth' & 'Harry')
