I am brain-dead tonight so this is rubbish - just a place-holder. Please do something else if you can think of a decent one!

Spiro - Frankly, no, but it is interesting to hear Bertha's story told from Bertha's point of view (and one that does not show Mr Rochester in a wholly good light, but then even the original makes it plain that he is not a thoroughly good person, even though he is later Redeemed By Love).

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/07/2011 22:49

Spiro - Did you ever read The Crimson Petal and the White?

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 22:49

I've just put Wide Sargasso Sea on my Amazon Wishlist, the new DF is already there.

One Day is absolute tosh, imvho. I wanted to love it because the idea is great but it didn't move me at all. I couldn't care enough about either character to get involved with their story.

I keep dipping in and out of Sunne in Splendour, it's one of my favourite re-reads atm. My 'to read' pile is about 40 books high currently, mainly because I keep adding to it after recommendations from here Grin.

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 22:51

See - another character offering dichotomy Maud!

I have got the TS DVD but have never got round to watching it.

I love the bit in the book where he talks about a string being tied under his ribcage and attached to her in the same place and how he fears it will snap if she goes too far away...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/07/2011 22:52

::buys shares in Amazon::

PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 22:52

ROFL at "you're quite into those at the moment" :o

I just Googled 'Wide Sargasso Sea', not being aware of it before. I see Nathaniel Parker is in it... hmm, maybe I should check it out :)

Small. NO FAIR!! I saw Bridesmaids but no CA trailer! Did you like it? I LOVED the lead woman (forget her name) and spent most of the film swooning over her hair.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/07/2011 22:55

So, I googled Toby Stephens + Rochester and this is what I got.

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 22:55

Maud - will have to add that.

I have actually got very few books on my Amazon wish list. I must sort that out as birthday is looming in the distance.

SIL belongs to a book group and gave me a huge list of her own 'recommended reads' at Christmas, but having looked almost all of them up on Amazon I can't say that most of them are really my kind of thing.

Although prior to this thread 'my kind of thing' was pretty much confined to Sophie Kinsella, Marian Keyes and Helen Fielding!

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:55

"you're quite into those at the moment'
obviously poor Mr S missed a few when he was trying to join up the dots Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 22:56

Maud that is my current favourite picture. Just wish I got to see it more often. Everytime I try and change my screensaver on the lappy or mobile, DD catches on to what I'm up to and I have to swiftly backtrack!

TheSmallPrint · 17/07/2011 22:57

I did like it Twigs but was a bit disappointed as evego e has been going on about how hilarious it is so I was expecting great things. It was funny but not roll on the floor funny. What was the lead lady in? I recognised her but couldn't place her.

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 22:57

obviously poor Mr S missed a few when he was trying to join up the dots

ROFL!!! Grin

He has well and truly joined them up since though Blush.

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:58

So, I googled Toby Stephens + Rochester and this is what I got.

And you are complaining why,Maudie?

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 22:58

Grin @ Toby Stephens + Rochester = RA

We've broken the mighty Google!

PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 22:58

She was in Paul (Simon Pegg, alien thingy) but she was also in a blink-and-you-miss-it role in Knocked Up where she had me and DH cracking up!

LOL @ join up the dots

Spiro - this is what you have in store.

I didn't see the telly version of Wide Sargasso Sea, or have forgotten it.

::Goes to google who Nathaniel Parker is::

Oh crikey, it's the rude bit in Australia.

::blushes::

TheSmallPrint · 17/07/2011 23:00

Maud what did you think of the Drover?

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 23:01

IKWYM Small about it not being as funny as the hype led you to believe but I still really enjoyed it. Especially the beginning bit on the automatic gate. Saw Chris O'Dowd in a completely different light too after Crimson Petal.

Speaking of BBC dramas - am looking forward to this on Tuesday.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/07/2011 23:01

I am not complaining, Massive, I found it amusing and wanted to share the amusement.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/07/2011 23:03

The Drover is most swoonsome, Small.

Ah, yes, that's Nathaniel Parker. Is he on your List of Lust too, Twiggy?

PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 23:04

I didnt know a thing about it when we went to watch it and I just adored it. I saw an article about The Hour just a few hours ago, Spiro, and thought it looked fun.

Siro, so is Mr S completely in the know now about your extRA curriRculAr activities then?

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 23:05

Is he on your List of Lust too, Twiggy?

Maud, I think we both know that there are very few people who aren't on it :o

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 23:07

I keep meaning to post this link. They are abridged adaptations of the classics for kids - you can get them on Amazon for under a fiver and thought they looked really good.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/07/2011 23:08

Well, since you mention it, Twiggy, I am assuming that the flowchart goes something like this:

Is he male? > Yes > Is he clinically dead? > No > Include in Twiggy's List of Lust.

And maybe it isn't even as restrictive as that.

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 23:09

Spiro, they look fabulous. MasterD1 will love those, thank you.
