I am brain-dead tonight so this is rubbish - just a place-holder. Please do something else if you can think of a decent one!

Link to the article, pretty please? I'm sure one of you can cross reference your extensive notes and find it immediately Grin.

I skipped skimmed most of the yawnsome descriptions after the first 3 or 4 chapters

^"Hail to thee, Lady Of Rohan"
Oh, I dunno, I'm rather partial to a nice bit of pseudo-medieval style stuff.

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:18

well, with or without the italics,,,

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:22

Bit of pseudo-medieval style stuff, exhibit A

PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 22:24

It is a beautiful scene, spoiled by somewhat silly writing. The King is going to war and the woman who secretly loves him is begging to go with him. She is complaining that the women have to stay and look after the people but she wants to go and fight with him because, like his followers, she loves him. It's almost John & Margaret-ish, where they fleetingly brush hands and don't say what they are really thinking... oh, it makes me cry every time I read it I have read the whole book 14 times

::whispers::

Spiro - I thought Toby Stephens as Mr Rochester was the swooniest swoonmeister I'd seen, until I discovered You Know Who. And I loved the book (and also the Wide Sargasso Sea).

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 22:25

Now that's my sort of pseudo medieval style, Massive.....

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/07/2011 22:26

Faux medievalism: exhibit B

TheSmallPrint · 17/07/2011 22:30

Ok stop it you lot showing off shot which great novel you're all reading ath the moment

I have just got back from the cinema and guess what was trailing? Yup, CA! As soon as the first clip came on I went 'ooh its Captain America!' and my friend wanted to know how I knew. I waited until the man came on screen and said ' because he's in it' at which she told me how sad I was and started laughing Blush Grin.

Thanks to Cornish for the Thorin pic, hmmm not really liking the look which is a shame because they've made Aiden Turner still look quite fanciable!

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:30

Sounds lovely, actually, Twigs. Why does she secretly love him? Is he betrothed to Another, or Too Far Above Her or what?

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:33

What was it like to see him up there on the screen, Small, much larger than life but just as pretty?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/07/2011 22:33

Wot cheer, Small. What cinematic masterpiece did you see tonight?

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 22:34

Small, at the moment I'm reading Dawn French's autobiography - I'm trying to read some of the 'classics' that have so far evaded me but I have to counteract each one with something lighter and less worthy to stop my brain imploding!

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 22:36

I have so far avoided telling DH the purpose of our trip on the 4th. That way I can still go and see it with MasterD1 without arousing suspicion.

::devious and cunning plan::

PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 22:38

Oh how exciting, Small!!! I've been to the cinema twice recently an dhave been more exicted at the prospect of a CA trailer than the film itself, but no luck. What film did you see?

Massive, bless you for being interested :) It's not so much that her love is secret, just that she hasn't told him yet. There is a gorgeous bit where she blurts it out. He is very fond of her but he's already in love with Liv Bloody Tyler and her silly pointy ears. It rang all sorts of true with me as a 20-something...

Tactics wothy of a PSM LadyD. Lucas would be proud of you. And Harry, but i don't suppose you'd be bovvered about him.

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 22:40

Are there any female characters in The Hobbit?

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:41

Oh Twigs, Unrequited Lurve is the story of my life Grin

TheSmallPrint · 17/07/2011 22:42

It was a mere flash but enough to excite me and improve my evening all the same. I went to see Bridesmaids.

I wouldnt mind reading the latest DF book Lady D, apparently it's very good.

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:42

I did gather lady dwarves had beards...

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 22:42

::ponders long and hard::

It's a tricky one but I think I would have to conclude that I'll just take Lucas. Do you think I'd get some kind of reward for the sheer genius that is The Plan?

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 22:44

Well, my reading list at the moment is finish FFTMC, then will probably read 'One Day' which SIL gave me back in February and I haven't got round to looking at yet as too busy ploughing through all the worthy stuff. Then will have another crack at The Sunne in Splendour probably followed by the Hobbit and Crime & Punishment.

Will now have to add the Wide Sargasso Sea to that list Maud. Is it as good as Jane Eyre?

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 22:44

I did gather lady dwarves had beards...

::ceases nighty plucking of chin::

::books tickets to NZ::

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 22:45

Maybe they have beard waxing salons nowadays. It'd be sort of like having a Brazilian

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 22:48

Mr S bought me Dawn French's latest on audio book for Christmas "as you're quite into those at the moment aren't you?" ROFL Grin!

I did start listening to it but was reading Birdsong so put it on hold and am planning to start again this week. The bit I listened to was very funny and true-to-life, and it's read by DF which is great.
