I am brain-dead tonight so this is rubbish - just a place-holder. Please do something else if you can think of a decent one!

OP posts:
cornishpasty · 17/07/2011 17:47

And I'm that excited I posted it twice!

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 17:55

Well... I can't say I'm struck, tbh. Maybe another, lighter pic would show him off better. But I bet he's having huge fun with it.

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 18:01

Although he's growing on me. I am loving the plaits.Grin

cornishpasty · 17/07/2011 18:08

Not my favourite look for him either. Don't think I would have known it was RA. Think the only recognisable bit is the eyes. Bit of a Gizzy glare!
What a great costume though.

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 18:16

Yes the eyes are very Gizzy. At least they can't accuse him of being too pretty! He must be revelling in that.

PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 18:27

Well done Cornish, I just came on here to post it!

As a Tolkein fangirl I LOVE it, but as an RA fangirl I don't like it :( I feel silly saying that because of course it's not about what he looks like at all. Except it is. Will be wonderful to see him in the role but I want to see him!

And where are the dwarfy twiglets?! :)

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 18:28

I think it's the eyebrows I don't like. And his nose isn't that nose... will attempt to stop sulking in a mo :)

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 18:39

OK, this is the silliest little thing to mention but I just saw the Heinz Beanz interview (beyond beautiful!) and did he drop a t during "wanted" at 52 seconds?! Dropped t's are a real bugbear of mine and it seemed very unusual to hear him do that!

Have another listen

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 19:18

Dropped 't' - haven't listened to it again but am sure it must be a glitch in the editing 9grin
As for Thorin - fantastic costume and make up (is that an artificial forehead?! Shock), and am slightly relieved tbh that I'm not finding myself fancying a Tolkein dwarf!

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 19:19

Excuse the really naff post above - was interrupted in the middle of typing it.

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 19:37

Spiro has managed to clarify my feelings yet again. Thorin is magificent, but maybe not fanciable in the same way as the other boys. Awesome, as opposed to thudsome. Wink

Who knows, though, in a quieter mood, he might grown on one.Blush

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 19:40

What's with the sausage fingers?

I'm with cornish, if I didn't know who was playing Thorin (in some kind of weird parallel universe) I wouldn't have known the Man was underneath all the hair. I don't like it.

::strops off in a sulk::

What's wrong with having a pretty dwarf? Eh?

I was out at a ball last night with LordD but all the fishy quips had me chuckling through my hangover this morning - the accompanying vids helped slightly too Grin.

SupermassiveLBD · 17/07/2011 19:55

LadyD you'd have sausage fingers if you had to deal with an extra big sword like that Grin They must be swollen from holding on so tight.

Well he's not pretty, perhaps, but he's far from ugly.

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 20:01

Well he's not pretty, perhaps, but he's far from ugly. I don't know. It's all so severe - the nose, the huge forehead, the beard, the eyebrows.

But looking at the comments on the OneRing site, I'm guessing their target audience isn't women who like RA Grin.

cornishpasty · 17/07/2011 20:33

I'm hoping that when we actually get to see him move and hear him speak, we'll know that it's him.
I'm still not sure whether I'll be able to watch the whole thing or just catch some clips on YouTube as I am not a Tolkien fan at all. I haven't seen any LOTR films and I'm not yet convinced that RA's presence will make it worth my while?! That's something I never thought I would say as someone who previously would have watched anything with him in!
Maybe I'm about to be converted if I do watch both Hobbit films.

PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 20:36

I think he looks ugly in that shot - all squashed up fat nose and big eyebrows, yuk. He might look different when not in Warrior Mode though. But from a costume & make-up point of view, it's brilliant. It's just not him :( (which is perfect for him of course - I'm just being selfish). Still, you can't pretty up a dwarf, really

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 20:38

Cornish, that is a good point, hopefully we will still have The Voice!

Am I the only Tolkein fan here? I normally detest all that teenage-boy dungeons and dragons nonsense but I find Tolkein a world away from all that. Ok, The Hobbit is a kid's story but LOTR was SO much more to me. There are certainly bits that I skim (the battle scenes bored me rigid, in the books and the films) but I just find it all so... epic. Plus, of course, I'm still in love with Aragorn after all these years :)

OP posts:
LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 20:38

Cornish, I'm with you on that. Only the lure of RA could have persuaded me to sit for 3+ hours watching something about dwarves but seeing the Thorin pics has made me think I won't bother. I've tried to read the book at least 4 times and have never got beyond the 3rd chapter Blush. It's just not my 'thing'.

LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 20:40

::moves a couple of chairs into the corner::

Let's sit over here and moan between ourselves about the spoiling of a lovely visage, shall we Twigs?

cornishpasty · 17/07/2011 20:46

As much as I would love to see him on the big screen I think I'll wait until I can get it on DVD. My ds will love it and I can glance up occasionally when he is on.
I will go to see captain America though. It's not particularly my sort of thing but I will be able to sit through that one.

PassTheTwiglets · 17/07/2011 20:47

The thing is, if they had made him all pretty and lovely then it wouldn't have been artistically valid. But I don't care about that, I want the pretty :) I am still desperately excited about the film though!

OP posts:
LadyDamerel · 17/07/2011 20:55

'artistically vaild' Pfffft.

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 20:55

For me the interest is from the production POV. Have never read LOTR but saw all 3 films and from a cinematic perspective they were just awesome, and I love seeing the behind the scenes video blogs from the Hobbit.

I am planning to try & read it before seeing the film which I will definitely watch but it will be from a film fan perspective rather than anything to do with Tolkien or RA.

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 20:59

BTW - was it here we were discussing him saying one of his characters had been killed off by being shot in the head and we thought he might be referring to the end of JP?

Only I was pondering this morning & I think he was talking about Captain McIlwain in Ultimate Force.

DumSpiroSpero · 17/07/2011 21:00

Aren't Kili & Fili supposed to be blonds? Nothing artistically valid about what they've done to Aidan Turner then Hmm.
