I am brain-dead tonight so this is rubbish - just a place-holder. Please do something else if you can think of a decent one!

Oh I loved Padstow, Small! I thought the town was quaint and the beach was gorgeous... but then we didn't go in the summer holidays so maybe it gets more poncey then?

We decided not to have a summer holiday this year but I'm changing my mind and of course it's impossible to find anywhere a mere fortnight away from the summer hols.

TheSmallPrint · 10/07/2011 20:29

Sorry Twigs I didn't mean my comments to sound as sneery as they came across Blush I like Padstow too but in the summer it is FULL to the brim and I think it's mainly to do with Rick Stein Grin and because it's so popular it becomes very over priced.

We tend to try an hire a cottage a bit further inland and then do daytrips around.

SupermassiveLBD · 10/07/2011 20:37

I give up! MN ate my post -- twice Sad I was just trying to say i haven't been to Cornwall for ages, but it is one of the places that draw me.

I shall not attempt the last bit, who wants to hear about when Gizzy dumped Richie for the grey, anyway...

PassTheTwiglets · 10/07/2011 20:46

No worries Small, you didnt sound sneery. It's good to know to avoid it in summer hols! Are you going there this summer? Any recommendations? Though I don't want to drive that far, really... btw, Rick Stein is my hero :)

TheSmallPrint · 10/07/2011 20:54

Funnily enough we went there to go specifically for his restaurant Blush I love RS too but my favourite thing to make of his is his mushroom gravy. It sounds terrible but it's divine!!

I'm trying to think where we stayed and of course my mind has gone blank. This year we're going to Dorset but we usually go to Dorset, north Devon (Croyde particularly) or Cornwall once a year, I love the South West Smile

Tell us about Gizzy then Massive.

PassTheTwiglets · 10/07/2011 21:02

Oh, lots of my childhood holidays were in Croyde!

We went there for the restaurant too, for DrTwigs' 30th bday. Where is nice in Dorset, I've never been there... ?

OP posts:
TheSmallPrint · 10/07/2011 21:06

Oh loads of places and it's much closer/ quicker to get to. I will PM you later with places.

SupermassiveLBD · 10/07/2011 21:10

Arrgh,Small, if I tell you about how divine Gizzy was, snarling in his cage, MN will eat the post again, I swear it!

Maud and I were discussing when he suddenly appears on a white horse , instead of dear old Richie. Which seems to be at the start of episode eleven of the final series, after he's been in jail, and then escaped to lurk in the forest.

Now isn't that enthralling? Smile

TheSmallPrint · 10/07/2011 21:46

Sorry Massive, I fell asleep reading that. Grin

SupermassiveLBD · 10/07/2011 21:58

[hangry] @ Small

Only kidding, obviously Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/07/2011 22:06

It shows how good your attention to, ahem, detail is, Massive. I had never noticed that Messire Gisborne's horse changes colour. I suspect you're right - Richie was getting too demanding and wanted his name above the title.

We used to go to Padstow before it became Padstein. There used to be a fabulously rickety second-hand bookshop where I would sell my first week's holiday reading and buy the next week's. Have you looked at Poole, Twiggy? Lovely beaches, an Enid Blyton museum and you can get the chain ferry to Swanage which is very retro cool.

We don't have a holiday booked either - we always book late, but not usually this late - and now Bloke has shown me what he thinks are possibilities I want to weep. I may turn up on Massive's doorstep with my bikini and my Ambre Solaire tied up in a red spotted handkerchief.

SupermassiveLBD · 10/07/2011 22:26

If Mr Thornton promises not to antagonise Gizzy, you will be very welcome, Maud. Don't forget the Plato, will you? Gizzy needs a change of reading matter from Which Broadsword? and Nuttes.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/07/2011 22:33

::Snort:: at Nuttes. Don't you think Gizzy would also have a subscription to Ye Vogue: Armour Edition?

You know, in my rush to escape Bloke's holiday plans I hadn't given any thought to bringing Mr Thornton with me, but as we are now affianced as a result of his passionate proposal at the party, I guess I should.

SupermassiveLBD · 10/07/2011 22:41

Don't you think Gizzy would also have a subscription to Ye Vogue: Armour Edition?

Doubtless. And to Gentleman's Hanged, Drawn and Quarterly

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/07/2011 22:47

::Ultra-snort:: at Gentleman's Hanged, Drawn and Quarterly.

SupermassiveLBD · 10/07/2011 22:59

On which merry note, I must bid you all goodnight.

Sweet dReAms, everyone.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/07/2011 23:01

::Looks around::

Seems it's just me and Uzi now.

::Switches off the lights and exits, pursued by a bear::

PassTheTwiglets · 11/07/2011 07:22

Maud,I will have a look at Poole, thanks. The only thing I know about it is that it's part of one of my favourite jokes:

I went to Poole.
In Dorset?
Yes, I thoroughly recommend it.

:o

OP posts:
TheSmallPrint · 11/07/2011 08:19

Grin at Twigs terrible joke.

SupermassiveLBD · 11/07/2011 11:52

Grin @Twigs.

It reminds me of the one that goes:
''My wife flew to the West Indies last week.''
''Jamaica?''

All together now,,,

TheSmallPrint · 11/07/2011 12:10

no she went of her own accord!

PassTheTwiglets · 11/07/2011 12:59

What's the question to the punchline "I don't know, Alaska..." ?

OP posts:
TheSmallPrint · 11/07/2011 13:07

Not heard that one Twigs but now I need to know the question too Grin

PassTheTwiglets · 11/07/2011 13:50

It's a play on "I'll ask her" and "Alaska" but beyond that I don't know...

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 11/07/2011 13:51

Something to do with that song

What did Delaware, boys?
What did Delaware?
What did Delaware, boys?
What did Delaware?
She wore a brand New Jersey,
She wore a brand New Jersey,
She wore a brand New Jersey,
That's what she did wear.

Why did Cali-phone ya,
Why did Cali-phone?
Why did Cali-phone ya,
Was she all alone?
She phoned to say "Hawaii"
She phoned to say ("How-ah-yee")
She phoned to say "Hawaii"
That's why she did phone.

Where has Oregon, boys,
Where has Oregon?
If you want Alaska,
(I'll-ask-a) where she's gone.
She went to pay her Texas
She went to pay her Texas
She went to pay her Texas,
That's where she has gone.

What did Mississip, boys,
What did Mississip?
What did Mississip, boys,
Through her pretty lips?
She sipped a Minna-soda,
She sipped a Minna-soda,
She sipped a Minna-soda,
That's what she did sip.

How did Wiscon-sin, boys?
She stole a New-brass-key,
Too bad that Arkan-saw, boys,
And so did Tenna-see.
It made poor Flori-die, boys,
It made poor Flori-die, you see,
She died in Missouri, boys,
She died in Missouri!
