Of course, I am violently allergic to cats...

The only picture we have of the Dean is not overly flattering but in my head he looks a little more like this

Come in, enjoy, help yourself to Twiglets.
Yours sincerely, a Fair Trespasser.

When you say 'they' Massive, do you mean 'we'? ::wink::

SupermassiveLBD · 21/05/2011 23:10

I meant less reticent members of our wide community, I suppose, Maud.

DumSpiroSpero · 21/05/2011 23:13

All this 'on behalf of...' malarkey from people who in RL presumably don't actually know the guy?!

Makes me feel slightly less bonkers Confused!

I think we should scan the messages for one that says

"On behalf of Gizzy, who sadly can't be with us tonight, from Massive on the Tropical Island"

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/05/2011 23:20

You're right, Spiro, the "on behalf of" as if they're doing it with whoever's knowledge and consent is more than a bit batty.

DumSpiroSpero · 21/05/2011 23:24

I just can't get my head around how/why anyone would go that. Do they not have an absurdity filter?

Anyway had next to no sleep last night so I'm off - hopefully for some sweet dreams.

SupermassiveLBD · 21/05/2011 23:27

Well, You will look in vain cos I've not donated a penny -- you have to give your real name...

Maybe the trouble lies with thier Engliss -- they don't really mean ''on behalf of'' they mean something else but it's late and I can't think what it should be.

SupermassiveLBD · 21/05/2011 23:31

Even so I was a bit Blush

Good night Spiro and good luck.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/05/2011 23:37

You're right, Spiro, it is the absence of an absurdity filter. Mine is actually set too low, I think - I even find people who witter on about how "Richard is this" or "Richard does that", as if this was someone they actually knew and were on first names terms with, rather absurd.

Sweet dreams, Spiro

SupermassiveLBD · 22/05/2011 00:04

Well, I shall try and get some sleep now! Night night all!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/05/2011 00:05

And it's a good night from me too.

DumSpiroSpero · 22/05/2011 07:52

Oooh Maud - wish I'd opened that pic last night. I might have actually had sweet dreams rather than weird ones!

I suppose with the "Richard is this" or "Richard does that" writers it is a kind of shorthand for "Richard Armitage appears to..." but I agree it can come across a bit weird & cringey.

PasstheTwiglets · 22/05/2011 08:25

Morning! Seems our recent week of 6.30am wakings was nothing but a fluke as it was back to 5.15am this morning, urgh.

I think you're right, Spiro, in that it's shorthand but it is still weird. I would write RA instead of Richard.

Am trawling amazon, looking for presents for DrTwigs for his birthday in a couple of weeks. Do you think he would like this?

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 22/05/2011 08:45

Do you think you'd be able to watch it with him in the room? Wink

PasstheTwiglets · 22/05/2011 08:54

Hmmm, good point :)

DumSpiroSpero · 22/05/2011 09:25

Saw it earlier - you've got to love a bloke that's willing to make that much of an arse of himself for charity!

Can't imagine Brad Pitt doing something like that somehow...

PasstheTwiglets · 22/05/2011 11:51

Absolutely, Spiro! Although I was almost as put off by his "whoop whoop"ing and accompanying arm-movements (a la Jeremy Kyle audience members) than I was by that photo of Mr Thornton smoking

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/05/2011 12:59

I agree that it's a shorthand, but so is RA, which has the benefit of not making it sound as if you are utterly deluded and imagine that he is your friend. Bottom line for me is that the people who are in the habit of calling him Richard sound like the girls at school who imagined that, because they both had the same favourite colour, they had a deep spiritual bond with David Cassidy and were destined to marry him.

That clip is very funny. Having never seen the Jeremy Kyle show, I am blissfully unaware of the requisite arm movements. 'Tis very droll that they look like garden gnomes. The only ones I recognised though, were Monsieur Armitage and Aiden Thingummybob - should I have recognised the others?

Twiggoletto - I think you know that probably isn't the most appropriate birthday gift for Dr Twigs. Does he have any hobbies? Interests?

::Tries to think of sensible present::

::Tries to expunge all memories of Mr Thornton and the Fag of Doom::

DumSpiroSpero · 22/05/2011 13:44

I think I missed the dodgy bit - perhaps because I was watching on my phone. I won't revisit that one then!

sound like the girls at school who imagined that, because they both had the same favourite colour, they had a deep spiritual bond with David Cassidy and were destined to marry him.

That's what I mean about an absurdity filter - surely no matter how mad one's private fantasies might get, you'd realise that phrasing something a certain way in public would make you sound like a delusional 14 year old?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/05/2011 14:59

Exactly, Spiro! If you're going to sound mad, it's essential to sound like a mad middle-aged woman rather than a mad teenager!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/05/2011 15:01

Now here's something tasty for Sunday lunch

SupermassiveLBD · 22/05/2011 15:35

Grin @ all you lot, wot are you like

Talking of deep spiritual bonds, the Man definitely must have one with some of us. Was it Twigs or Small who was wanting him to do something to put them off him? And he has answered straight away with his off-putting Jeremy Kyle moment, he was doing just that, specially for them.

PasstheTwiglets · 22/05/2011 16:21

Maud, look away, you are not going to like this. I mean it, go on, put your fingers in your ears and go "la la la" for a few minutes.

Um, don't you think he looks a bit, well, pervy there? He looks like he's having most un Mr Thornton-like thoughts.

OK, you can come back now Maud. It's ok, you didn't miss anything, we were just talking about fluffy bunnies.

As for DrTwigs' hobbies - does cheesecake count? :) He loves reading but I wanted to get him something different this time...
