I think (co-)writing all those songs qualifies him to be my hero, alone.

Granted, he does come across as a bit of a plonker sometimes, but I think that's just the way he is, and I'll forgive him that, because of the songs.

Brief mention of Captain America - Dominic Coper (one of the award presenters) is in it, apparently. I think I exclaimed "Captain America?!" a little too forcefully :)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/02/2011 21:50

Ah, Twiglets. Have been meaning to return to

^And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time.^

I hadn't heard Wichita Lineman for decades, but Jimmy Webb was on the radio a few days ago talking about the decline in songwriting and there was a short clip of that line. Now I've just seen that he also wrote MacArthur Park, which has another of my favourite lines

After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one.

Hey, maybe the Man will be a presenter next year??? Could be!!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/02/2011 21:56

I see that Massive has already made her mark of the Hobbit cast thread.

::Dies of shame that she's on not one but two threads in Sleb Twaddle::

SupermassiveLBD · 13/02/2011 21:58

I am delighted other folk like the Witchita Lineman, I thought noone else in the world had ever heard of it.

I always used to mentally see him halfway up his pole with his hard hat and those metal claw things they use to climb with, singing away about his one true love. They just don't make 'em like that any more.

SupermassiveLBD · 13/02/2011 22:01

Maud, you make me sound like a dog p**ing against a lamppost.
I just had to go and say hello, and perhaps gain a recruit or two. You never know, they might not have noticed us.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/02/2011 22:03

I think I overlooked the Wichita Lineman for many years because I dismissed anything that my mother admired (such as Glen Campbell and, even more, Francis Albert Sinatra). How ignorant I was then.

and I need you more than want you
and I want you for all time.

::dabs the corner of her eye::

MrsLucasNorth · 13/02/2011 22:03

I can't believe they're all on about Aidan Wotsisface Confused

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/02/2011 22:06

I did not make you sound like a dog on a lamppost. I merely mentioned that you had left your characteristically droll imprimatur there.

Am ::snigger:: that James Nesbitt has been described as a minger! There's certainly at least one person there who might be recruited to the Academy side.

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 13/02/2011 22:09

There's a Hobbit Cast thread?

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 13/02/2011 22:11

Tom Ford - now there's another man with a beard who's rather nice (yes, I know...)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/02/2011 22:11

Yes, Phoenix. Invite 'em all in here.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/02/2011 22:13

Once again, I remind you ladies about the ooohness of a well-kempt beard. You really have been very slow to catch on! ::wink::

SupermassiveLBD · 13/02/2011 22:19

Droll imprimatur

Ooooh!

I'd like to thank my mum and dad, sister Tracey, Uncle Charlie and Aunt Bea, not to mention Towser the family pet...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/02/2011 22:24

::Whispers::

I said characteristically droll imprimatur, actually. You realise, Massive, that this means the MN style mavens will be ripping your dress sense to shreds. Or possibly even the dress itself.

::passes you the duraglit to keep your trophy shiny as it sits on the mantelpiece::

PassTheTwiglets · 13/02/2011 22:33

Here we go then... come on Colin, you can do it!!

PassTheTwiglets · 13/02/2011 22:35

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 13/02/2011 22:35

I think that was a foregone conclusion...BTW, you know it's not quite live, don't you Twigs?

OP posts:
PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 13/02/2011 22:38

So has The Social Network won anything, so far?

That's a pity, it was very good.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 13/02/2011 22:39

Considering it's not live - you'd think they'd have sorted out Rosamund Pike's monumental cock-up.

PassTheTwiglets · 13/02/2011 22:39

Yes but I hadn't heard the results, Phoenix. Did you know then, you minx? :)

I was due to go to an awards show fom work (where we actually won) but a suit stole my ticket for his wife and I wasn't allowed to go. 10+ years and I'm still resentful :)

SupermassiveLBD · 13/02/2011 22:40

He's won, then? Oh goody. Well done, Colin.

MrsLucasNorth · 13/02/2011 22:41

Really want to see the Black Swan now. Thought Darren Aronofsky's speech on behalf of Natalie Postman was v. lovely, too.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/02/2011 22:42

I think I saw the two actors from TSN go to collect something, Phoenix.

But whooooot for Colin. We're going to see the film tomorrow. So, as I said, !
