Good night MrsLNP, looks like my turn to put the cat out!

Morning!!! I have about a weeks worthof reading to catch up on- tell me, what have I missed??

PassTheTwiglets · 02/01/2011 10:06

Morning, Snowy! What have you missed? Well, we've had further chapters of Santa's New Toy and Tansy's adventures with Sir Guy finished with a fanfare... what else? We had a fun NYE party, with several surprise guests :)

MrsLNP, what did you think oif Upstairs Downstairs? I really liked it. Can't get enough period drama at the moment for some reason. I missed Downton Abbey and want to try and watch the 1st ep of that at some point today. Hmmm, maybe it won't be so bad with DS going ot nursery twice a week after all :) I LOL'd at your "8.4" comment to me last night :o After I posted that photo to TTL I thought I probably shouldn't have (poor DH)!! But hey, I was just illustrating a point, right? Right?

He did ask you to explain - you were only helping him out Wink

Am enjoying UD - not sure if I like the MIL or not, leaning more towards not at the mo. Watched 1 & 2 last night and sobbed like a baby at Ivy singing to the Lotte at the end. Saw it coming but even so...Sad

Surprised that Agnes wanted to send her back to Germany - what a cow!

Am about to each the last episode while I take down the Christmas decs.

PassTheTwiglets · 02/01/2011 10:34

He did ask, you are right. I knew I liked you :)

The UD MIL is a cow!! And yes, Agnes wasn't the most sympathetic character, was she?

MrsLucasNorthPole · 02/01/2011 10:36

I like MIL to begin with, then she started reminding me more and more of my own and I went off her rapidly after that!

Theresahollyinyourmind · 02/01/2011 11:39

Good morning ladies, and welcome back Snowy! I was just thinking about you and hoping you hadn't got lost on your way back from Milton.

Twigs, what was all that 8.4 business? I hope it's not what I am thinking. Wink

UD sounds like another one for the DVD list, when it comes out. I wonder if they have the old series. I never saw that.

Having a restful afternoon, here, hope you are too, everyone.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 02/01/2011 15:39

What a shame, Dalton Mills alias Marlborough Mills, partly destroyed by fire

PassTheTwiglets · 02/01/2011 15:41

I've never actually seen 8.4 but it's the episode that you (I think it was you?) drew our attention too, when Lucas goes into some kind of bunker and decides to strip off. TTL asked what people were up to, I said I wanted to watch Spooks but had to watch something else instead, he then commiserated & said if he had his way he'd watch himself in all the re-runs too. I said "I presume you'd start with 8.4?" and he didn't know what it was, so I explained.

Glad to hear you are having a restful afternoon. We have just left the house for the first time this holiday (other than to get in the car) and it felt very odd! Went out for a head-bangingly stressful lunch with the kids and did a bit of shopping and have just got home.

PassTheTwiglets · 02/01/2011 15:45

What a shame about that mill. I was wondering a while back about what the mill was now - I presumed it was a museum. In-laws come from Keighley...

Theresahollyinyourmind · 02/01/2011 15:47

I thought 8.4 was the blue sheets one, and the strip tease was in 8.6. Now I am going to have the very bothersome task of reviewing both episodes when I get the house to myself tomorrow.

Oops, you are probably right! I just pulled 8.4 out of thin air, I haven't seen any of S8 at all!

MrsLucasNorth · 02/01/2011 15:51

Shock Sad about the Mill.

Hope you're recovered from your excursion Twigs. I spent the morning restoring order in the living room (expect that'll last about 24 hours if I'm lucky). Have just had a nice soak and watching Vicar of Dibley whilst acting as artistic director to DD who is getting stuck into the paint your birdhouse kit she had for Christmas.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 02/01/2011 15:52

Well, both eps are similar really, lots of juicy Lukey.

More about the mill I am amazingly sad about it.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 02/01/2011 15:53

I think it is 8.4, according the website with all the stills on.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 02/01/2011 15:59

Now I shall have to look at the whole series 8 again, MrsLNP. However am I going to force myself to manage that?

I have given up on housework till I can get everyone out again and then at least it will stay done for an hour or so. So we have sat in our squalor today.

Don't Speak to Me about excursions. I refuse to go any more, Mr H and the Berries have to sort themselves out.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 02/01/2011 16:03

Don't know what's more sad about the Mill, the fire or the fact that they're trying to sell it presumably for redevelopment. Would be nice if it was restored and turned into a working museum - fat chance of that in the current economic climate though.

MrsLucasNorth · 02/01/2011 16:07

Holly, we are all on the same schedule here as DH and I both work term time only (he does longer hours but starts early so is usually home just after I've done the school run). Hence, I never get the place to myself during the day. He decided to take DD to church this morning though, so I opted out and had a major tidying session.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 02/01/2011 16:07

There is one working mill somewhere else though isn't there, the one they used for the interiors?

I suppose you have to prioritise and you can't save everything but when you see whacking great salaries and bonuses paid to people who often cause huge losses to the exconomy, it rankles.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 02/01/2011 16:16

Yes I think you're right about the other Mill, and if it's nearby I guess having another would be a bit self-defeating.

I didn't notice if it's listed. Redevelopment wouldn't be so bad if they have to keep it more or less intact externally. I've nothing against modern architecture but it'd be a shame to lose all the old stuff.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 02/01/2011 17:06

They did an awful lot of that in Manchester, or should I say, Milton, kept the exterior of the buildings but made them into modern flats inside. It has really retained the character of the inner city. I am not too sure about all the cleaning of the brickwork/stonework however. it makes it all look a bit raw and I am sure it was a lot duller and dirtier even when it was quite new because of all the industry.

I don't get the house to myself very often either but tomorrow I shall. So now I have to decide whether to spend time with Lucas, or muck out the pig-pen.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 02/01/2011 17:34

How quickly can you 'muck out'?

When I had 18 months at home prior to DD starting school, I used to put my Ultimate Dirty Dancing
CD on and race to get it all done before it finished.

Always used to do it on a Thursday am while DD was at nursery and so the house was nice and tidy to relax and watch my fave TV prog in the evening with a glass or 2 of vino!

Theresahollyinyourmind · 02/01/2011 17:43

It depends whether I do a surface skim or really put my back into the shovel work. Am liking your speed-up method, I could put on the music from that Benny Hill Spooks vid, that would be just about frantic enough.

How is the writing coming on? I am done with all my ideas at the mo, maybe inspiration will strike when I have watched Lucas tomorrow. If I have time left after the cleaning. Well you know I am going to watch the pretty spy man anyway, by hook or by crook. Wink

Will finish SNT over the next couple of nights as it's not so topical anymore. Have never written comedy before and have really enjoyed it (although I did have plenty of inspiration!). Has made me rethink what I might try in the future.

After that I need to get with some serious writing - not in content necessarily, but actually producing something a bit more substantial. I have a few (wildly different) ideas and am hoping 2011 will be the year I get something more than a feature published.

Planning some big changes this year so any extra money I can make from it will be handy too.
