Welcome to our newest faculty building. Make yourselves comfortable and ignore the smell of paint. We cannot keep up with the demand for new premises.

I was only joking about fanfic, didn't mean to ridicule it. I really did enjoy the Clarissa fanfic, it was amazing! And of course our own GTN and JL are the best ever fanfic a girl could have! I should've been clearer that I was kidding, as I really didn't want to offend anybody! I would even write some myself in another life when I actually had a minute to myself :)

Holly, so are you writing some too then, is that why you wanted to know the spelling of Vaisey?! Will we get to see the finished work?! How exciting!

MrsLNP, what is the "actual play" you're referring to?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 19:54

Retourne-toi et regarde-moi.

Ich spreche nur ein bisschen Deutsch. The captions at the beginning say "I don't want chocolate, I don't need it. I'd rather have Mr Thornton" and then (as far as I can decipher) she sings about how men taste better than chocolate. Later the caption says "Forget chocolate, savour [perhaps a looser translation would be nibble?] John Thornton".

Holly - My message suggesting that you should just play up to the stereotype of the English abroad (assuming you are English) - ie, sport plus fours and a monocle and play Mad Dogs and Englishmen on a wind-up gramophone - has been lost in hyperspace but you get the general idea. After that, you will be entirely free to do as you choose.

Would anyone like a glass of Chateau Gizzy?

Theresahollyinyourmind · 12/12/2010 19:55

Nah, Twiggy, I am just playing with ideas. Nothing exciting, like the fic you have been reading, anyway, Wink

I used to read quite a bit of fanfic in other fields, hence my going on about it a bit. I have not read much in our field of study, just skimmed a few really. I think the fact that not all of it is very compelling keeps me from getting drowned!

I was worried by the tutoyering. Would he? It seems extraordinarily bold, given that he only (in the book) calls her Margaret when he's proposing for the second time.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 20:01

I don't mean to decry fanfic either. People enjoy reading it and people enjoy writing it. But I dare not go there, otherwise the riptide will drag me away from the shallows into deeper, more turbulent waters.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 12/12/2010 20:04

Oui oui, to the Chateau Gizzy. Apres M Thornton en francais, j'en ai besoin.

Thanks for the German translation, it all sounds great fun about the chocolate.

Good idea about the stereotypes, they do them all for you anyway, I think I told you they think we all live like Benny Hill.

I think I will channel Miss Marple, though, rather than Bertie Wooster.

Maybe he treated himself about the tutoyer-ing, Missy, as he was speaking in his heart rather than to her face

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 20:08

J'en ai besoin aussi. Santé!

lovelyopaque · 12/12/2010 20:11

Never let anyone say this is not an intellectual and stimulating thread!

MrsLucasNorthPole · 12/12/2010 20:13

Clarissa "kill me then, if I am odious enough to receive thus treatment in your hands...."

Post-fire, end of chapter 2.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 20:13

You know what I'm going to post next, as we speculate about Mr Thornton's tutoyering and his inner dialogue,

Theresahollyinyourmind · 12/12/2010 20:14

Found it, phew! At last I shall be able to enter into polite society up at t'castle.

Now how do I say my postillion has been struck by lightening?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 20:15

Mrs LNP and Lovely - Would you like some Chateau Gizzy? It's a cracking vintage.

lovelyopaque · 12/12/2010 20:16

Love some thanks.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 12/12/2010 20:19

Ooh la la, Johnny, Margaret will faint if she knows what they are saying! And what you are thinking.

Thanks for your enlightening contribution MrsLNP. To quote another Frenchman, ah yes, I remember it well. Now you've reminded me, that is.

I think I need some Polish Cordial tout de suite!.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 20:19

Holly - "Zut alors" and a Gallic shrug of the shoulders might suffice.

PassTheTwiglets · 12/12/2010 20:20

MrsLNP, have we listened to it more than once, to remember it that well? ;)

Come on then, splishy-splashy!

lovelyopaque · 12/12/2010 20:22

Merci beacoup!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 20:22

Ah, Twiglets! You have returned to the well-upholstered bosom of the faculty.

MrsLucasNorthPole · 12/12/2010 20:26

Yes please to the Chateau Gizzy (which actually comes up in my predictive text now, along with Thornton-esque, Armitage, Twiglets and many more!)

I'm not sure I'd describe GTN or JL as strictly fanfic tbh, am toying with the idea of writing a little something for Christmas though...Xmas Wink

Theresahollyinyourmind · 12/12/2010 20:26

I expect after being an Impressionist some of that shoulder action may have lingered on, Missy. A shame we didn't hear him actually speaking French, rather than relying on subtitles. But it was an important contribution to out archives, even so.

Cheers Misteltoe! I am here but simultaneously nervously watching the ending of my Prardar shirt, as I am reselling it on eBay. I hoped to make my money back but at the moment I think it will sell for 99p Angry

PassTheTwiglets · 12/12/2010 20:30

MrsLNP, I didn't think of your boys as fanfic either, what with them being entirely new characters, but it suddenly occurred to me that you may have thought of it that way and I didn't want you to think I was mocking it. 'Cos you know how much GTN has done for me ;)

Very excited about our potential Xmas present! And LOL at your predictive text :)

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 20:33

Drat about the Prardar shirt.

We are watching series two RH. Will and Djac have declared their love (aaah). They are all now in the Holy Land. I am anxious. Will we reach The Moment before Offspring goes to bed? Will she be traumatised for Christmas (eeek)?

Theresahollyinyourmind · 12/12/2010 20:33

Didn't you write ''as modelled by Lucas North
(after his sappy girlfreiend has sewn a button back on using the wrong colour cotton)'' or something, to push up the price, Twigs?
