Welcome to our newest faculty building. Make yourselves comfortable and ignore the smell of paint. We cannot keep up with the demand for new premises.

YT copyright ishoos strike again. In the end there is going to be nothing at all left!

Well I have this thrilling schedule ahead of me. Repeats of Holby City, double dose of Weakest Link, and something called Blackjack. DVDs are a possibility but usually start a fight.

I hope you find something passable. Roll on The Rover, eh?

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 11/12/2010 15:14

Oh dear about the prospect of fisticuffs. Is your local telly no good? Saturday Night Live from the Limpopo Hippodrome?

I'm not banking on The Rover. It's a delightful idea but I may have to be satisfied with now very distant memories of Jeremy Irons disporting himself in leather trousers.

The search continues .

Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 15:25

Local telly is mostly footie at the weekends
Or reality shows. I think you have some of those back in Blighty.
I do have a wicked lord whispering in my ear at the moment. He is tall and dark with lines of dissipation on his face and dressed extremely smartly but with no mention of leather trousers unfortunately.
I suppose later I could always wild unconventional notion read. Or get out a writing project.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 11/12/2010 15:33

Oh yes. Reality shows. We are addicted to Strictly - jutting botties and banana legs notwithstanding - but otherwise avoid them. Which sometimes does not leave much else. Hence we have derived excellent value for money from the RH dvds.

Tall and dark with lines of dissipation on his face, eh? Even on that scant information, I feel a slight coming on.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 15:48

I am still wondering how to work it so I can get the RH DVDs as I rubbished the show so energetically before I had that light-bulb moment. ''Yes the costumes and the plots are ridiculous and Robin is a petulant little fuckwit, but what have we here?''

Meanwhile even our ancient re-runs of pre-Alesha Strictly have come to an end, so not a banana leg in sight.

Tall dark and dissipated and lean, too, Missy. And he's just grabbed our heroine and snogged her. He says he thought she was a village wench. He will turn out to be a pussycat in the end, though, GH rakes always do.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 11/12/2010 16:08

I think the crux of the matter is the reliability (or not) of the collective memory of the HollyHousehold. Will they remember that you rubbished RH when first it was shown or could you convince them that you were actually speaking of some other televisual entertainment? Alternatively, could you use the arrival of a job lot of dvds as an opportunity to deliver an uplifting little homily about the virtues of Keeping an Open Mind and being Willing To Revise One's Opinions In The Light of New Evidence*?

Snogged did you say?

  • omitting to mention that that new evidence constitutes leather trousers and a big sword
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 11/12/2010 16:11

Have just been reminded of that immortal line in Bridget Jones when Mark Darcy finally gets up close and personal with Bridget:

Bridget (mildly but not unpleasantly shocked): Nice boys don't kiss like that.

Mark Darcy (looking rakish): Oh yes they bloody do.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 16:24

They have memories like our next door neighbour, the elephant's, children. Never forget anything unless it's something to their detriment. Maybe I could say I was trying to order this
and constant interruptions and quarrels over DVDs had made me click in the wrong place.

OP posts:
Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 16:28

I must watch that again sometime. The raining men sequence was genius. And those big knickers of hers were such a comfort to me, at last I was no longer alone.
Though of course in the filnm they weren't all that big.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 11/12/2010 16:34

Yup, that sounds like your best bet. You were going to buy that learned tome but were bamboozled by squabbling enfants.

I haven't seen Bridget Jones since its first release but was reminded of it very recently. Was it on this thread? Or perhaps it was a YT link from that goody-bag vid that had Mr Darcy o
in it. Anyway, must go and look for the raining men.

Hope your evening won't be too dull (how can it be if The Voice is being piped into your brain?) We're off out for an evening of twisted cabaret. Ahem.

PrairieOyster · 11/12/2010 17:37

Teacups - some people have tried, without success to locate a copy of the teaset used in N&S. And it does seem like it has quite oversized cups, giving it a rather inelegant appearance.

Anyway the conclusion is that it was probably a specially made prop teacup set that was never commercially available.

PrairieOyster · 11/12/2010 17:49

BTW I'm going to a party tonight - yes the busy whirlwind of my social life strikes again - and will be back late (or not, if the party is very dire) so will not be able to study.

MrsLucasNorthPole · 11/12/2010 18:09

Have fun Oyster - don't forget the Chateau Gizzy!

PrairieOyster · 11/12/2010 18:39

Theresa, I'm also having to 'about face' on the RH DVDs - so far I just watch repeats but one day this may not suffice.

I never watched a single episode of RH when first broadcast and I don't remember any trailers either. But it was always on at a bad time for me seeing as I had two small ones (inc a baby to put to bed around 6.30 - 7.30 on a Saturday) - that's my excuse anyway. But I also vaguely remember rubbishing it with my SO too!

But he knows about my Armitage addiction now, though not, I fear the full extent of it cough

PrairieOyster · 11/12/2010 18:43

The thing is that I still have problems with RH, not the Gizzy bits of course, but a lot of the rest and Bobbin Hood (as the gals at C19 christened him) is just plain miscast, and annoys me no end.

So I would be buying the DVDs for one reason alone - can I justify that?

Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 18:58

Re the teacups, I always think it's a shame that they didn't use a set I have seen in other period dramas, as I have the same one.
That would have been above cool.

Hope you have a great party, Oyster, it might take your mind off your addiction for five minutes. Unless of course such distractions are unwelcome.

OP posts:
Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 19:02

We definitely need someone to come along and edit out all the non-Gizzy bits and maybe slo-mo some of the best scenes, stalking down corridors and so on...

It could be called The Essential Guy of Gisborne or something.

But then the questions from friends and family would be even more awkward.

OP posts:
PrairieOyster · 11/12/2010 19:11

Some people have edited together the Gizzy bits on YT (not fanvids) but it hasn't been done for all episodes. I also have quite a few downloaded soundbites of one thing or another (eg Beg!). Actually I also have two RH audiobooks and they are pretty good. I may even share if you ask me nicely...

Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 19:26

Grin at ''beg''. We really shouldn't like it so much, modern feminist women that we are supposed to be in this day and age.
Which are the good audiobooks? They are not such a problem as DVDs, I have friends who are always sending me all sorts of CDs anyway, iyswim Wink

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 11/12/2010 19:54

I have only seen the visuals for beg & fetch on YT - dying to hear the audio!

Went to a kids Xmas party today and they had Twigets :o Really didn't want to explain my laughter to DH so I think I hid it well :)

Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 20:01

Bet they were not as tasty as our Twiglets, Twiggy.
BTW, can I ask my question about the Sheriff's name again? Everyone seems to spell it differently and I can't find the official version, though I have been googling madly.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorthPole · 11/12/2010 20:23

They were doing well, I've been to 2 or 3 places looking.g for twiglets this week and can't find the.buggers - perhaps we've started a trend!

It's nice to think of our little club giving us all a giggle in real life Xmas Smile

PassTheTwiglets · 11/12/2010 22:04

Trouble is, MrsLNP, it sometimes carries over into real life a little too much. I actually referred to my nail varnish as "Lucas Blue" today Blush

Theresahollyinyourmind · 11/12/2010 22:11

Ooops, Twigs. Did ayonme notice or were you able to cover it up with some quick and clever remark?

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 11/12/2010 22:13

I covered it up with a cough :)

Sorry I can't answer your Sherriff question, Holls. Tbh I didn't even know we ever knew his name, what is it? (spelling aside)
