Welcome to the new common room! Grab yourself some Twiglets and a glass of Chateau Gisborne or some Polish Cordial and come on in - the water's lovely!

We think the same way, after all these threads, Boden.
So Vintageteacup, do you have a favourite Armitage character? Most of us seem to like them all, but tend to focus on one to avoid emotional overload.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 13:50

Oh, already answered. Our friend Flowers wil like you!

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/12/2010 13:55

I may post a short reading on that theme later.

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 13:55

I had actually only recently watched North and South and feel I've been missing out all this time!

I do love him as Lucas and I'm trying to convince myself the death thing was all a set up and it was someone else who fell :(

But I love him as Mr Thornton best; a bit like Mr Darcy only better. Sexy, yet arrogant and a bit of an arse. But I'd definitely say yes Wink

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 13:56

flowers - It makes me go all quivery when their fingers slightly brush. Sooooo romantic.

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/12/2010 14:01

Vintageteacups - It was all going so well and you were going to be my new best friend. Until you called Mr Thornton an a*. He is no such thing. He is simply a man who takes a little longer than is strictly necessary to Work Things Out In His Head.

And do be careful bandying the a* word about, or you will start Theresa off on one of her wibbles about Gisborne's leather-clad contours.

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 14:05

Sorry - I meant it in a personality way - not that he was always one. I just didn't like the bit where he hit that bloke for smoking. I know that's what would have happened but I would find it a bit tricky loving someone I knew beat people up.

I will not use the a word again Wink

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 14:21

Have just ordered Venetia by Georgette Heyer; 4 hrs 51 mins of RAs voice -hmmmm.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 14:39

Grr and not at Vintage's mention of nether regions, leather-clad or no, but at the realisation that my copy of Venetia hasn't arrived, yet again. I hope you have better luck!

BTW, the beating up bit is an addition, it isn't in the book, so you can safely love the true Mr Thornton, unsullied by violence.

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/12/2010 14:42

I understand about the beating of the smoking man. It is repellent. As best I can remember it is an invention of the tv people, not of Mrs Gaskell (although she writes quite a bit about mill safety).

Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 14:47

As you know, Flowers, I totally agree with you about violence, punch-ups in swimming pools, big swords and the like.

StripeyMoon · 06/12/2010 15:15

Theresa thank you for that clip, the fork photo certainly makes me a bit quivery for some reason Grin. Welcome teacups, be prepared to devote all your free time to the research!

Has anyone introduce teacups to the fruit bowl yet?

MrsLucasNorth · 06/12/2010 15:43

Am I daft for thinking this morning that after over 2 months of Armitage Academy, we really ought to have a Christmas Party?

StripeyMoon · 06/12/2010 15:46

Do you think we could have a mystery special guest?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 15:48

It's always party time here, Mrs LN. But good thinking!

MrsLucasNorth · 06/12/2010 15:49

Perhaps we should contact his agent and see if he'd like to join us for virtual twiglets, Polish cordial & plateau Gizzy, followed by apples and ratafias!

StripeyMoon · 06/12/2010 15:50

plateau gizzy? Confused

Do you think he would be scared witless? Grin

MrsLucasNorth · 06/12/2010 15:50

plateau Gizzy

Predictive text typo, not Freudian slip, honest Grin

MrsLucasNorth · 06/12/2010 15:53

Ok, entering the realms of science fiction for a mo...

...imagine if it was possible to clone RA so he could attend the Academy Christmas Party as every one of his characters...

StripeyMoon · 06/12/2010 15:55
Bodenbabe · 06/12/2010 16:01

Oooh, did someone say party? I'm in!

OP posts:
StripeyMoon · 06/12/2010 16:04

Are we having a secret santa?

MrsLucasNorth · 06/12/2010 16:18

When are we doing then? Are we all around tonight?

Bring along your fave pics & clips & themed snacks & drinkies!

StripeyMoon · 06/12/2010 16:21

OK I'm off to find my favourite. Flowers may have to turn the sound off Xmas Grin.

StripeyMoon · 06/12/2010 16:22

OOh better idea we need to secret santa our vids!

That would involve name changing for the evening though.
