Welcome to the new common room! Grab yourself some Twiglets and a glass of Chateau Gisborne or some Polish Cordial and come on in - the water's lovely!

Oyster, edited though it is, it's better than nothing, though, isn't it?

Goodnight, Flowers and Mr T.

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/12/2010 00:04

When Boden and (I think) Theresa were expressing a desire to nibble Guy and Lucas, I sent them some twiglets. So a twiglet moment is whenever you see anything that is, ahem, good enough to eat.

Oyster - Yes, the amount of tinkering with Mrs Gaskell's prose even in some of the pivotal scenes is galling. Lovely as the final scene of the tv version is, I wish they'd used more of Mrs Gaskell.

MrsLucasNorth · 06/12/2010 00:07

Ah - that makes perfect sense!

Not sure I've come across anything yet that doesn't constitute a Twiglet moment personally Grin!

Night night all...

Bodenbabe · 06/12/2010 07:22

MrsLN, it was specifically the pixie ears that Theresa found which we wanted to nibble.
Here is the picture that started the Twiglet referencing

Oh and Flowers, that was a lovely reading! So, wrt N&S, do you think I need to read or watch first? Or doesn't it matter? Maybe it's better to watch it first, as I can then properly imagine Mr Thornton when I'm reading him. Besides, not sure if I can wait that long before seeing it, as it takes me ages to read a book these days...

Feeing a bit Blush at being the instigator of ear candy!

It was bad of me.

My personal recommendation would be to see N&S first, then read the book. This is how I experienced it, and it added layers of deliciousness to be able to hear the voices in my head as I read.

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/12/2010 10:42

Now, just to be contrary, I would say that there is also a lot of joy to be had in (as I did) reading N&S first, enjoying the wonderful writing, and then watching the tv version. It means you know Mr Thornton pretty well before you first see him (pretending, for a moment, that you haven't spent a week watching the YT clips on a loop) and then, when you see him, it's extra thudworthy.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 10:55

It's a shame you can't do both, Flowers!

I have just spent an hour or so in the company of Lucas North, and find myself thinking what a shame they did what they did with him. There was so much there that could have been explored and I mean character-wise, not twiglets etc.

But there again, I am inclined to believe that less is more when it comes to the life-span of characters in a TV series. What I would like is for him to return for one episode, so it can be revealed that all this John business was drug-programmed into him, a layer under the layer so to speak, so his memories were false, and his actions controlled by a puppet master. Finally he could die some beautiful death, like Guy, and then everyone would be happy.

StripeyMoon · 06/12/2010 11:25

Morning, I am frozen. I need something HOT to warm me up. Any suggestions?

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 11:30

OMG- have only just seen this thread - how yummy in those Cold Feet Pictures???

Vintage disappears off to read rest of thread...

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/12/2010 11:37

Hmm, Stripey. A hot water bottle, perhaps?

Welcome to the Academy, vintageteacups. Do stick around.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 11:41
coming up, Stripey, vintage, welcome. We know you may be some time, but come back and talk to us!
Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 11:43

Proffers cocoa to go with the hot water bottle.

MrsLucasNorth · 06/12/2010 12:04

Welcome to the club Vintage - will you be reading the 5 threads previous to this one too - we are fast becoming a bit of an institution Grin!

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 12:26

Anyone read the article of RA, when asked why he was single, saying he was "just a boring geek who loves DIY"
Hope that doesn't put anyone off!
I'm just imagining him weilding a drill, putting up my shelf Grin

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 12:27

I didn't mean for that last bit about putting up my shelf to sound rude Blush

Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 12:34

Don't worry, Vintage, we tend to make similar remarks ourselves.
There is a whole lot of other silliness here some of which you might find puzzling. If so, don't hesitate to ask for an explanation.

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 12:36

Just imagine the other women are actually you!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 12:53

As the poet says, vintageteacups,

^O, that way madness lies; let me shun that;
No more of that.^

Otherwise none of us will get anything done today! Grin

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 12:58

Thinking it was a bit smutty but oh well. we can but dream Smile

Bodenbabe · 06/12/2010 13:04

Oh vintage (welcome, btw!) that video should come with a warning, shouldn't it?! Y to the U to the M.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 06/12/2010 13:04

Not smutty, just a little, er, distracting.
So, who is your favourite character?
Has anything to do with your nickname?

vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 13:17

I would love to say "yes because of the teacup scene" but sadly no. However, from now on, that will be the reason Smile.

I name changed a while back but I'm a weathered mumsnetter - just had to namechange for ID reason.

Bodenbabe · 06/12/2010 13:40

Theresa, you beat me to it :) I just came on here to link to that teacup vid :)

OP posts:
vintageteacups · 06/12/2010 13:45

Theresa - I think I would have to choose
a)John Thornton - or b)just his voice in the Santander advert. It makes me go all weak at the knees.

In fact, I think I may pop onto amazon and order myself a CD book which is narrated by RA - there must be some!! I can't imagine anything nicer falling asleep to every night.
