Obviously I do, but if I'm to take OP at her word when she says she isn't addicted (and possibly she isn't), then I wonder why she isn't opting for other drugs.
Additionally, if she is addicted it would likely be psychologically not physically, at the frequency she's doing it, and she would potentially be able to replace that psychological addiction with another drug that perhaps could be sourced (slightly) more ethically.

So yes, my questions stand. Has she considered switching to a different drug, and what does she get out of it that makes it worth the huge cost in human misery? (It's possible the answer to the latter could be that she's addicted, but then she should probably face up to that fact if it's the case.)

What 'ethical' drugs would you suggest?

I see your point, but I think she's lying to herself that she isn't addicted.

No, I don't want to police anything! Just pointing out the pattern that closes down conversation nearly every time. People judge and become aggressive. Questions turn into judgement instead. OP goes. Thread over. Predicable every time.

Using drugs recreationally is hardly a rare thing, though - I'd say a slim majority of the population has used some sort of drugs recreationally at some period in their lives, so the only interesting questions for OP to answer are digging beneath the surface and into the meat of the subject, like the issue of ethics.

I don't know why people do AMAs about such controversial topics if they aren't prepared for a negative reaction.

I've already said, up-thread. Mushies are entirely ethical, obviously, or weed if you can source a grower who you know is ethical (possibly much easier where I live as I said in another comment, despite it still being illegal where I am), or growing it yourself, of course.

This is an interesting thread and I’ve been there and enjoyed it very much but eventually grew out of it. It’s strange though, just because society has made it illegal, why does it make it bad?

Cannabis was banned for decades but has huge healing Properties and has been reported thousands of time as one of the many cures for cancer. It obviously how many other serious conditions and nowadays it is available on prescription.

Psilocybin or Magic Mushroom’s also have been banned for many decades, but these have been proven to help with mental health issues, serious issues that medicine cannot cure. There’s a huge underground movement calling it plants medicine and it’s helped millions of people recover from depression, anxiety and an endless list.

Of course cocaine is heavily manufactured and the version that we take recreationally is full of poison and other toxins. Let’s not forget it was legal I don’t know 100 years ago and in early 20th century. It was in Coca-Cola and you could buy it in the chemist as it was in many products. It only got banned when people started having fun with it.

Obviously Amsterdam has cannabis and mushrooms as legally Purchaseable items so no one Bats an eyelid in that country. Just because it is illegal mean there is anything wrong with it.

Far more pain, disease, cost to health services and detrimental effects to families and communities comes from alcohol and cigarettes and sugar, all of which are simply taxed to justify keeping them legal.

An adult can choose to do what they want to do he doesn’t mean any drugs are inherently bad or good. What a strange world we live in.

I think there are 2 completely separate issues.

One question is whether recreational drugs are intrinsically harmful, beneficial or neutral. Some posters are clearly interested in this as they've asked the OP whether she has any concerns about her health.

The other issue is the harms caused by taking part in the illegal drug trade. Even if cocaine was harmless in itself, drug users are partly responsible for the horrendous misery caused by the actions of drug sellers and smugglers.

I do agree! So I take your point too. I think she's in denial, and is using it as a crutch/has a dependency at the very least.

unbuttonedowl · 19/09/2026 12:51

I don't think there's a been a pile-on. There have been some great comments from people who work with/around drug users.

It's just a boring topic. A decent number of high-earning parents in any high-net-worth catchment will be boring cokeheads, thinking they are edgy and cool cos they snort a line or two at the school quiz night. They are just cokeheads.

ItsPickleRick · 19/09/2026 12:52

I wondered if the heart health implications of using alcohol and cocaine together worry you?

I am also concerned that your usage is increasing. Nobody thinks they’re an addict, even when they’re in the grip of active addiction.

I assume your friends use too? I would encourage you to have a night off the next time you all go out and just observe how your friends appear to others after they’ve taken it.

greenchalk · 19/09/2026 12:54

Ihateboris · 19/09/2026 10:55

I actually feel sorry for you Op. I think you are trying to convince yourself you're not addicted, but if that's the case, why do you continue to use it on a regular basis? Are you depressed? Are you lacking confidence and feel you need it when socializing? I read somewhere that users even get the feeling of euphoria just at the THOUGHT of taking it, rather than actually doing it.

This is accurate, users can experience dopamine spikes just from the anticipation of using (e.g when seeing drug paraphernalia).

that being said, I don’t see why you feel that using once a week/fortnight implies addiction. I have known many addicts, and this isn’t the behaviour of an addict, it’s the behaviour of a recreational drug user (as op states they are). Do you view those who drink at weekends as addicts?

I'm happy to stand corrected regarding addiction/recreational use. What constitutes addiction?

DuchessDandelion · 19/09/2026 12:57

I've never taken illegal drugs, they don't appeal, but I'm really curious what they're like....can you tell me?

Happyjoe · 19/09/2026 12:58

Ethics aside, you know that most people on coke come over as absolute bellends yeah?

Ihateboris · 19/09/2026 12:58

I haven't piled on, I've simply asked questions, many of which the Op hasn't answered.

To be fair, a lot of people who drink alcohol come across as bellends 🤣

lala88880 · 19/09/2026 13:14

Name changed as incredibly outing but when I was 13, my aunt and my Mum were doing coke. They, like you, used it every couple of weeks after a drink. My aunt collapsed and died. She was 34 and left 4 kids behind. She had an underlying heart condition that she never knew about. Her life was gone in a matter of seconds and for what? Some white stuff up your nose to make you feel good for a few hours?

It’s vile, it always has been and always will be. I can’t stand people like you that try and normalise it whilst seeming proud of it. Yuck.

classydesktop · 19/09/2026 13:17

OP - I think you’re in denial over your use. You say you use it more than you used to but you’re ‘not an addict or an alcoholic’ because you don’t want it every day.

Alcoholism and addiction don’t look the way you think they do. Lots of people have a substance dependence issue but will quite happily go weeks or months without it. They still have a dependency though and they look forward to the feeling of getting obliterated. It’s all the same thing, just in different degrees.

I used to have an issue with alcohol but I too could ‘stop whenever I wanted’. I held down a stressful job and succeeded at it and no one would ever know what I was like at home. When I tried to stop, I’d always get pulled back into it.

I’ve dealt with the issue now (therapy, support and tapering down) but it’s complete denial to think this isn’t controlling you on some level. You should get help before you drop dead.

alltheleavesarebrwn · 19/09/2026 10:48

id really love you to point out where I ever said it doesn’t cause health problems or contribute to exploitation

I suppose they're giving you the benefit of the doubt in supposing you were unaware of these facts.

As opposed to being aware but don't care. Or at least, don't care sufficiently to stop.

Starpeck · 19/09/2026 13:22

alltheleavesarebrwn · 19/09/2026 09:12

I am aware of the exploitation that comes from the drug industry and of course feel bad for contributing to the demand. It’s not that I don’t care or that I accept it, I’ll hold my hands up and say I am of course at fault at the fact I still do it.

Ew, the fact you recognise this and still do it is foul.

grrrlatrix · 19/09/2026 13:26

I’m sorry you’re a cocaine addict, but knowingly funding the organised crime that has caused the devastation of parts of my local area, including causing the deaths of two much loved police officers, is so scruffy.
Please get help before more people are hurt.

Aintgointogoa · 19/09/2026 13:27

If you are getting a gram for £50 then it is guaranteed to be shit. Have you ever had 'real' cocaine ? I can assure you that there is nothing like it, it'll "blow your tiny mind" as I am sure some song lyric says. At one point in the '80's when it was rife (and not cheap !) especially in the industry I worked in, I was chatting to fairly major celebrity and he produced a rock (literally a crystal of pure cocaine), carved some slivers onto a mirror and offered....I have never forgotten that feeling - utter elation, as if I understood everything that could be understood, and invincible - but mostly coke just turned people into sharks circling the party for the next line, killing the atmosphere when half the room took off to the bathroom, and people boring on and on (eg very popular with the bank bros and their egos). I have lost people close to me to addiction because they turned into monsters before the inevitable breakdown. And I now live in a country where control of this drug (= money) could take it back to brink of civil war.
So no wonder you don't crave it because you are probably inhaling a mix of baby formula cut with cheap speed or some Chinese lab synthetic. Cover yourself in glory why don't you ? Have at it ! I don't know how you sleep at night (oh yeh right, you're on the marching powder so you can't.....)

5128gap · 19/09/2026 13:31

Why did you start a thread about it? Most people just get on with the things they enjoy. It seems a little performative of you, like you're here to tell us how edgy you are, and get scolded to affirm you're not like all the boring women?

Therescathairinmybath · 19/09/2026 13:38

Have you made a will or made suitable arrangements for your children in case a drug and alcohol binge kills you?

Annoyedbyhusband · 19/09/2026 13:43

I know a few recreational drug users… they get it delivered, have testing kits and have high paying jobs and in some cases responsible jobs in the legal sector.
in every case I have seen things fall apart for them in at least one aspect of their lives, usually not all, but it could be relationships, mental health, family (usually it is not work but in one case I have seen it effect work) due to their drug use, have you seen any negative things happening or can you foresee anything? How long have you been doing this and when do you think you might stop if at all?
I have never seen long term drug use just continue without consequence in one form or another. having had to pick up the pieces for several people over the years when it inevitably got the better of them.

LyonsKnickers · 19/09/2026 13:50

Are you white?
