Off the back of another thread I realised am ridiculously organised and my house is always tidy, always ready for visitors etc didn’t realise how tidy I was until I started commenting on and reading the other thread. So just a fun, or nosy AMA.
maybe there’s nothing to ask 🤣 thought it might be interesting though…

Interesting, my head can be a mess at times. I’m an overthinker/worrier about things that involve my dc…and interactions with people in work.

Does the tidying make you feel more in control?

The plan once we do the en suite is to have the fridge in there. But thank you. We use the bedside tables for pants and socks just now as the house is being renovated so I’d have to put them somewhere else. And there’s nowhere else for them to go. Unless it’s the plastic tubs in the hall 🤣🤣🤣

You gotta love a plastic tub though…I love looking at storage container sections in shops it’s like arriving at the mothership 🤣🤣

@Kitchenbattle I really struggle with toilettes on the bedroom & bathroom. Now admittedly I have far too many but I often just leave them on surfaces. How do you sort them? Are you strict with what you have?

Bunnycute23 · 30/08/2025 14:32

Op, how do I get pet hair out the washing machine?

sundayfundayclub · 30/08/2025 14:32

that should say toiletries!

Being tidy makes me feel in control…I haven’t actually tidied anything today except my en-suite after I had a shower and got ready for the day. I wiped down the shower, I wiped down the sink and I picked my hair off the floor (bloody menopausal, underactive thyroid hair!)🤣
Had a big brunch this so no kitchen cleaning today 🙌

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 not to be rude but that made me laugh. I wish that would do for me and him. I would need (and am planning) two matching cabinets that size or bigger if I can in our en-suite (planned also) to hold our drugs between the two of us. And we also have a medication fridge. Which is currently in the bedroom.

Yes. But your situation is far from the norm. You can’t judge other people’s medical needs compared to yours. You sound sore about your circumstances and are taking it out on the OP or whoever said untidy people are lazy. Undergoing house renovations is stressful but at least it’s showing you what you really want and need out of the Reno.

and I’m disabled- degenerative neurological condition with a husband who’s just had an aorta replaced and a new heart valve so don’t think I don’t understand- I do but we aren’t the benchmark for normal people’s lives are we ?

Oh x post.

moppety · 30/08/2025 15:00

Interesting thread but I always think these things just come down to priorities and where you want to put your time. I have so much stuff I want to do: fitness, hobbies, volunteer work, seeing friends, etc. on top of the usual life stuff with two young kids and a job, that I already struggle to fit everything in and I do the bare minimum round the house (I have a cleaner weekly thankfully). I don’t really want to spend more time doing housework than I can get away with. Could my house be tidier and more organised? Yes. Can I do it without sacrificing something that’s more important to me? No. Clean enough and vaguely tidy are enough for me, but someone else’s priorities will be different and to them it will be worth the time spent.

Basically, we all have a finite amount of time, we will all spend it according to what is most important to us and that is different for every person. So if you’re feeling bad because your house isn’t always tidy or spotless, think about what you would have to sacrifice to spend the extra time to do it and whether that trade off is worth it, then you can be at peace!

I have no idea why some posters seem to passive aggressively 'out snide' each other and try and pick apart every thing an OP says. It's weird and it's happening on just about every thread just now.

I didn’t mean to come across as snidy , reading back my post it kinda was really , so I apologise…
I’m probably just a little jealous reading how you have it all under control & I just can’t manage to
EVER ! 🙈

I don’t understand this sorry 😔 what do you mean toilettes on the bedroom and bathroom?

I can kind of understand pp's being rude because while I do believe you I'm just sat here thinking "But HOW?!" Nothing you've said has really made me feel like 'Ah yes I could work on that!' I still just don't understand how you're doing it... This thread and the recent one you referred to have left me feeling even more broken albeit a bit less alone :(

Can you come and stay and train me step by step 😅

riverofjordan · 30/08/2025 15:19

Or yes, you could say I'm just jealous 😏

I see what you mean now I tried to keep it in minimum room as I can but if I see good deals, I’ll buy a little bit of bulk. Boots Tuesday deals etc.they are kept in bathrooms

I'm much the same here. Wipe after use, put things away as soon as used. I do have an untidy husband, but I don't spend loads of time cleaning. Just small jobs fairly frequently. And try not to have stuff everywhere.

WickedElpheba · 30/08/2025 15:26

OP I'm questioning how clean and tidy your house really is if you wear pyjamas all week and change your sheets every 2-3 weeks

Hereforthecommentz · 30/08/2025 15:28

You wear pj's for five days!! What am I reading here. I wouldn't let my kids wear pj's two days, it's hot and they sweat. I wash everyday sometimes twice. How can any family only wash twice a week!! Do you kids not do sports and need sports clothes washing? I wash everyday sometimes more

I know I’m not op but dd uses this https://vamooshcleans.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooOl5Pg0xkA9F5wIiq487eMDXAXdHyP9ouM2ExzKdA5VCDGGPHh

she uses more sachets than they say but it works apparently.

Giving this a go! Got a cat and an elderly dog. Furry cunts!

Pigtailsandall · 30/08/2025 15:30

As a previously messy person (like everything, everything, lived on the floor) idsay it actually saves me time amd energy to be organised. I can find things, I don't buy duplicates, I can pack/unpack easier, plus put outfits tomorrow easily. Im a reformed messy person. And you can be creative without mess! Your stuff doesn't define you.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 30/08/2025 15:35

I would vanish under a landslide of laundry if I only did the washing on Saturdays! I used to wash everything that’s been worn every day, but I’ve cut down as that’s bad for the environment.

AuldWeegie · 30/08/2025 15:39

Re medicines. I use wall-mounted plastic coated wire baskets for all mine. They are mounted inside a cupboard as I prefer not to have them on display and constantly reminding me.

I use old ice-cream tubs for ointments and creams. These are usually on bedside tables where I apply them or take them into the bathroom.

I keep duplicates of eye drops in handbag and car as I need to apply them very frequently.

RosesAndHellebores · 30/08/2025 15:42

I'm not dissimilar but we have a bigger house and a cleaner and just one adult child at home now. I like everything neat and tidy and do it as I go. We are always guest ready. Don't put it down, put it away.

I cannot get my head around the laundry a la the op though although I do note that they don't seem to have clean clothes every day which I find a bit mingy - and I have a clean nightie after three wears. Our bed is done every two weeks, as is dd's. We have a 7 or 8kg machine and I do a minimum of four or five loads per week. Usually two dark, one coloured and two whites. 5 x 7kg is 35 kg so I do not see how the op does 2 x 10kg.

6 towels, 1 king duvet and sheet, 6 pillow cases, 7 work shirts for dh, 1 pair casual trousers, 7 x socks and pants, cpl pj's, 5 dresses for me, pair trousers, couple of tops, 7 x undies, 2 nighties, dd will have a combination of trousers, tops, dresses, undies pj's and of course there are tea towels and cleaning cloths which go on a 90° bio wash which also cleans the machine. I wash about three/four loads on Saturday and Sunday and do a couple during the week. I put it away as I go along and the cleaner irons.

Argh, sorry for typos - sent in hurry! I meant to say I can put together outfits more easily.

We are a family of 3 btw and have huge washing machine - either 11 or12 kg and I do about 2 loads a week, plus a monthly wash of all reusable cleaning cloths. That is unless dc has a bed-wetting accident which does sometimes happen.
